Unless you already have one... My current Siri remotes last about a year without recharging, it's not like it needs a dedicated charger and cable.
Yep. It’s an incredibly unnecessary item to include, and if for some reason you don’t have a cable with usbc on one end to be able to use once in a blue moon for 2 hours to charge it, then they’re 3.50 to buy.

Let me get this straight. Everyone wants things to charge by USB-C because it's universally available and widely in use. Cool. The flip side of that is that we can start to assume that you already have USB-C cables.

And I would be willing to bet money that 99% of the people whinging about "the principle of the thing" here already own USB-C cables.

Imagine buying a $1000+ iPad and complaining about a $20 cable. :D
Imagine buying a $1000+ iPad and not getting a cable in the box. Cause that's probably next for them and the "environment" lie.

You think people complaining about the lack of cable are weird. I think defending Apple padding their profit margins a bit more is weird.

Imagine being someone that's posted almost ten thousand messages on a message board talking about how other people's lives are lacking.

Nice try, but that's a big flop. Seems you need to think through what I said.

As so many others are, I'm not on this forum everyday complaining/whining about the tiniest little things Apples chooses to do or not do.

As this is an Apple forum, I'm here for Apple news and tech, which from a content and editorial point of view is outstanding. It is sad that I and many others have to wade through the daily juvenile whines in order to get to some thoughtful well-reasoned posts from other (likely more mature) members.

The remote lasts for months between charges, so this is something that is going to bite people sometime next year.

I really don't understand why Apple can't include a freaking $2 charging cable. This is a whole new level of stingy.
I don't want one. I have cables and so do you. Nobody is going to get "bitten" except some mythical Apple TV purchaser you made up who somehow has zero cables and despite spending well over $100 on a TV streamer can't (gasp) buy a cable if they need it.

Cables like this may "cost" pennies to make but that's all at the expense of metal mined, oil processed into plastic, packaging made from paper -- all transported, warehoused and managed by workers and machines, using additional resources and putting carbon into the air. So what, we can get more "extra" cables to throw into drawers and landfill? Frankly it's thinking like this that's gotten us where we are (spoiler alert: it's not good).

You're right that the monetary cost here is minimal. Apple could certainly afford to pinch a penny somewhere and give out more landfill-bound cables, but they're actually doing the right thing here and letting the market work as it should. Putting a cost on cables incentivizes people to have the number they actually need and use instead of cranking them out by the millions just to make people feel like they "got their money's worth" somehow.

Ethernet and Matter support, if you buy the more expensive version.

Although isn't Matter coming to the current Apple TV, too?
The current version has Ethernet and should get Matter support - they just dropped both from the cheapest model.

If you already have an AppleTV 4k you'll get better wifi (6E vs 6), better CPU, more storage, and a better connector on the remote. The new high end AppleTV is a better product if you were buying one now, but no point in upgrading.

Must be different in the US because here in the UK a hedge trimmer would either be wired and therefore come with a long cable (and plug) or wireless and come with a battery plus charger plus cable and plug.

Tesla however no longer come with a charger, being an optional extra, around £300 for their branded granny charger.

Just to show I’m not making it up here are both of mine. Never once was I upset there wasn’t a cord.

But Apple's usual argument is that it's better for the environment since they're shipping less bulk. "Less carbon footprint."

OK… so I still have to either drive to a store to get that new cable, or order a new one and have a delivery vehicle bring it to my door. Extra fuel burned for one cable.

Toss in the additional packaging for the new cord - more plastic, paper, etc.

How is that being "environmentally" friendly?

If someone's been all-in on the Apple ecosystem and until now has had a MacBook with a MagSafe charger and an iPhone and a previous gen iPad with lightning, where the hell would they have a USB-C cable from?

What? My portable speaker is USB-C, my Sony headphones are USB-C, my Jabra video conferencing headset is USB-C, heck even my nicotine vape is USB-C. My DJI drone is also USB-C.

Some of these things came with the cables and some didn't. No one was in outrage.

Damn Apple, you are so rich, stop being so greedy. I get you need to show profits at every quarter, but at some point you need to stop only appeasing the shareholders and give it back to customers. They are what keep you alive. Don't take the for granted.

I’m a huge Apple fan, but today has been frustrating for sure.

New iPad only works with a lightning pencil but the iPad is USB-C. Granted the pencil comes with the adapter but still, rather frustrating.

Now they change the Siri Remote to USB-C, which is great, but won’t even include a cable? Really?? It’s not like they can say “oh you have tons of those laying around” when this is their first switch from lightning to USB-C.

This is the same thing they pulled with he iPhone and said “oh you have a ton of those AC chargers at home” knowing full well they are USB-A and you just changed to USB-C to lightning for the iPhone.

At this rate, iPhone 15 will launch with USB-C next year and no charge cable.

EU forces them to switch to USB-C from lightning? Don’t worry, they’ll just not include a charger at all and make up that lost mFi revenue they got off lightning.

Very frustrating launch of USB-C for Apple. Change it across the board and include the cable for at least a year. Don’t half ass the change (iPads but not iPhones, some iPads and not all, Siri Remote but don’t include cable, iPad is USB-C but the only way to charge its most used and sold accessory is via a dongle). Just a complete mess.

I love Apple and their products and it is fully expected that we pay an “Apple Tax” to get a better experience, better quality and things that “just work”. This is the opposite of this. It’s a worse experience for the end user and stuff doesn’t “just work” when adaptors are needed.

And the argument “if this is what is stopping you from buying the Apple TV…yadda yadda yadda” doesn’t hold water. It’s not stopping anyone, most likely, but it is nickle and diming your customer base when it is very clearly not necessary. This is a poor look for Apple any way you slice it and as much as I love them and their products, I am glad that even on an Apple rumors/fan site - they are getting dragged for this.
I’m fine with removing the cable once most users have USB-C devices but I’m sure there are a lot of Apple customers still on lightning.

Europe certainly isn’t showing iPhones 14 and Watch 8 much love after the price hike.

And no, it doesn’t matter if it’s justified by inflation or not.

Our salaries haven’t gone up to match Apple’s price increases and essentially no other tech brand has hiked its EU price because of the weak Euro.
Exactly we finally got a raise at work, but that was after $0 twice. And the raise we did get barely makes up for just groceries spiking. It doesn't include all the other things that are more expensive. And it's even worse in EU with the energy stuff. Gas is climbing some again, but at least our climate control costs aren't insane

Yea it's not like it will die within a day of use, and even if it does, you can use your phone.

The Apple TV I had bought came with HDMI cord, charging cable and ehternet port. These were are standard.

Because plenty of people won’t be doing that until they need a new one, vs every single new Apple TV including one?

This is an absurd thing. Apple is always been noted for being a premium product, and now they are being flat out cheap. This just adds to the cost of the purchase.
Leaves a real bad taste in my mouth
