I am probably alone with this, but I prefer: no chargers, no cables, no fancy packaging.

I already have dozens of cables and chargers. Many of them brand new with unopened packaging. Adding more to my dust gathering "collection" would be just waste of money and environment.

I feel bad every time I open a new device and toss up to 100g of fancy packaging materials that were there just for a few seconds of "unboxing thrill". My "unboxing experience" would be much better with a well designed, minimal, 100% recycled brown cardboard package.

For the those who do not have dozens of extra cables: Ask a friend for unused extra cables they have laying around or if everything else fails, buy a cable that is exactly the color, material and length you like.

The only reason I have such a cord on hand is because I already own an iPad Pro. Otherwise with every other Apple product that isn't a Macbook requiring Lightning, why would you expect others to have a USB-C cable laying around?

Anyone that has been paying attention knows Europe and Brazil have been pushing their charging standards (usb c) on all companies including Apple. Blame them, not Apple. To those that don’t have the cord already, fine, now is the time to be pushed into the future. It’s happening now.

Which type of cable are the people who are complaining wanting?

C-to-C? If they don't already have one of these cables, what is the likelihood they have a C power adapter or a machine that has a C port? What are they going to plug this into?

C-to-A? Why would they go back to any A port for charging?

Seems the easiest decision is for you to get your own cable for your specific need.
They likely have a charger with a USB-A port.

Some incredible decision making at Apple today, we'll see how it plays out. A new iPad without the ability to charge the Apple Pencil it is compatible with, a new ATV remote without a cable to charge it (Also, still no find my in the third generation?) And a new iPad Pro that forgot to add any new features, and isn't compatible with the new and improved (And overpriced) keyboard for the budget iPad.

For a while the hardware teams were hitting it out of the park (2018 iPad Pro, M1 chips, new MBP's) but it seems the streak might be coming to an end. I'm guessing a lot of the hardware people got moved over to the AR headset.

This is the kind of attitude I’m sick of on this site. Making stupid excuses for bad behaviour in the most thoughtless way.
Nothing bad about it. You should have mutliple USB C cables at this point. Isn't the whole point of this "change to USB C to save the environment" BS about having less cables? How are they less cables if they include one with every unit sold?

You should get used to varied opinion or your association with this enterprise will be rocky-to say the least.

There is no issue with not providing a cable that is supposedly a standard. Yes, I’m defending apple.

From Wikipedia:
“E-waste is considered the "fastest-growing waste stream in the world"[7] with 44.7 million tonnes generated in 2016- equivalent to 4500 Eiffel towers.[3] In 2018, an estimated 50 million tonnes of e-waste was reported, thus the name 'tsunami of e-waste' given by the UN.[7] Its value is at least $62.5 billion annually.[7]
If Apple cared about e-waste they would stop using black soldermask.

If Apple cared about e-waste they would stop using black soldermask.
They would also probably stop making e-products completely. But enough of the straw man. The point is that not including a standard cable that many people own or can buy extremely cheaply is an effort to reduce e-waste, regardless of any other perceived motives.

The new Apple TV 4K introduced today ships without a charging cable for the Siri Remote, forcing customers who need one to purchase one separately. Previous models of the Apple TV included a Lightning cable in the box for charging the remote.

The new version of the Siri Remote announced today is equipped with a USB-C port for charging instead of Lightning, but there is no USB-C cable included in the box with the new Apple TV 4K. Apple also no longer includes a charging cable with the Siri Remote when purchased separately for $59 through its online store.

Apple today began selling a one-meter USB-C cable with a woven design for $19.

Apple stopped including a charger with the iPhone 12 and newer and touted the environmental benefits of the decision. However, iPhones still ship with a Lightning to USB-C cable so that the device can at least be charged with a Mac or other device, whereas the Siri Remote now ships without any included charging accessory.

The new Apple TV 4K is available to order beginning today and launches Friday, November 4 in the U.S. and more than 30 other countries. Key new features include the A15 Bionic chip, HDR10+ support, a lower $129 starting price, up to 128GB of storage, a thinner and lighter design without a fan, and the updated Siri Remote.

I’ll play devils advocate.

It’s a universal port now. This is literally what you all wanted and it’s a standard. When you buy a hedge trimmer it doesn’t come with an extension cord. It’s a universal plug it’s your responsibility to have the extension cord. Same thing with Type-C. You have the plug you are expected to have the cable.
Must be different in the US because here in the UK a hedge trimmer would either be wired and therefore come with a long cable (and plug) or wireless and come with a battery plus charger plus cable and plug.

Tesla however no longer come with a charger, being an optional extra, around £300 for their branded granny charger.
