This really summarizes all these press release updates today. Just money grab after money grab.
Actually, not being able to see that regardless of motives, not including the cable IS actually good for the environment is the sad thing. The sad thing is the BS about doing this for the environment actually works on some customers.
The only reason I have such a cord on hand is because I already own an iPad Pro. Otherwise with every other Apple product that isn't a Macbook requiring Lightning, why would you expect others to have a USB-C cable laying around?
They likely have a charger with a USB-A port.Which type of cable are the people who are complaining wanting?
C-to-C? If they don't already have one of these cables, what is the likelihood they have a C power adapter or a machine that has a C port? What are they going to plug this into?
C-to-A? Why would they go back to any A port for charging?
Seems the easiest decision is for you to get your own cable for your specific need.
Absolutely. Greedy, stingy, $$$ oriented trillion dollar company. Can’t take a hit on its margins. The environment be damned. /sGreedy. Stingy.
Nah. You all wanted USB C so you could use the same cable for everything. There you go. Use your existing cable like you wanted.Greedy. Stingy.
You can bring it to apple store for free charging I guess.I can understand no AC adapters, but not even the cable REQUIRED to charge the thing...?
IPad Pro comes with a usb c cable. If someone's been all-in on the Apple ecosystem and until now has had a MacBook with a MagSafe charger and an iPhone and a previous gen iPad with lightning, where the hell would they have a USB-C cable from?
Nothing bad about it. You should have mutliple USB C cables at this point. Isn't the whole point of this "change to USB C to save the environment" BS about having less cables? How are they less cables if they include one with every unit sold? This is the kind of attitude I’m sick of on this site. Making stupid excuses for bad behaviour in the most thoughtless way.
You should get used to varied opinion or your association with this enterprise will be rocky-to say the least. This is the kind of attitude I’m sick of on this site. Making stupid excuses for bad behaviour in the most thoughtless way.
If Apple cared about e-waste they would stop using black soldermask. From Wikipedia:
“E-waste is considered the "fastest-growing waste stream in the world"[7] with 44.7 million tonnes generated in 2016- equivalent to 4500 Eiffel towers.[3] In 2018, an estimated 50 million tonnes of e-waste was reported, thus the name 'tsunami of e-waste' given by the UN.[7] Its value is at least $62.5 billion annually.[7]”
Interestingly enough, this is the attitude I'm sick of on this site. People telling other people that their opinions are bad because they aren't like yours. This is the kind of attitude I’m sick of on this site. Making stupid excuses for bad behaviour in the most thoughtless way.
They would also probably stop making e-products completely. But enough of the straw man. The point is that not including a standard cable that many people own or can buy extremely cheaply is an effort to reduce e-waste, regardless of any other perceived motives. If Apple cared about e-waste they would stop using black soldermask.
Wait until the iPhones no longer come with oneImagine buying a $1000+ iPad and complaining about a $20 cable.![]()
Brussels says they'll send you a cable.....
The new Apple TV 4K introduced today ships without a charging cable for the Siri Remote, forcing customers who need one to purchase one separately. Previous models of the Apple TV included a Lightning cable in the box for charging the remote.

The new version of the Siri Remote announced today is equipped with a USB-C port for charging instead of Lightning, but there is no USB-C cable included in the box with the new Apple TV 4K. Apple also no longer includes a charging cable with the Siri Remote when purchased separately for $59 through its online store.
Apple today began selling a one-meter USB-C cable with a woven design for $19.
Apple stopped including a charger with the iPhone 12 and newer and touted the environmental benefits of the decision. However, iPhones still ship with a Lightning to USB-C cable so that the device can at least be charged with a Mac or other device, whereas the Siri Remote now ships without any included charging accessory.
The new Apple TV 4K is available to order beginning today and launches Friday, November 4 in the U.S. and more than 30 other countries. Key new features include the A15 Bionic chip, HDR10+ support, a lower $129 starting price, up to 128GB of storage, a thinner and lighter design without a fan, and the updated Siri Remote.

Must be different in the US because here in the UK a hedge trimmer would either be wired and therefore come with a long cable (and plug) or wireless and come with a battery plus charger plus cable and plug.I’ll play devils advocate.
It’s a universal port now. This is literally what you all wanted and it’s a standard. When you buy a hedge trimmer it doesn’t come with an extension cord. It’s a universal plug it’s your responsibility to have the extension cord. Same thing with Type-C. You have the plug you are expected to have the cable.
Good for you, not everyone does.Couldn’t care less about the lack of chargers or cables. Have plenty in all shapes and sizes.
