I saw someone say they wouldn't renew their Prime subscription because theres no dedicated ATV App.
The reality is that it doesn't work this way, certainly not with me. I wouldn't give up Mr Robot or The US Office or the coming Top Gear thing because of the inconvenience of AirPlaying.

Having no Prime App might put people off buying the Apple TV but it won't put them off subscribing to Prime. I'm sure Apple wants a Prime app but Amazon has the power here because it has the content.

Amazon's playing the long game, it wants to get us hooked on its content the same way it got us hooked on its store, so it can eventually sell us its own crappy box. Personally its quite frustrating.

Are people using the new Apple TV with WiFi or cable? Does it work well with WiFi?

With these types of devices, always go with wired(cable), you would have a much better experience streaming media, without having to worry about wireless interference and lagging.

I have mine set up with cable right now. I do use a 3 with wireless because I have not had a chance to pull a cable to it yet and have not had that many issues. I will though be running a cable to it soon.

They pulled Chromecast and AppleTV from Amazon Canada as well, yet they don't offer Fire TV in Canada...

I'm convinced it has nothing to do with selling Fire devices. What brand of TV streaming devices do they sell in Canada?

I don't understand the crying about Amazon's tactics:

1) Pulling Apple TV from Amazon.com

- First of all, they did the same thing to Google Chromecast. Second, Apple did the same thing to Bose speakers after they acquired Beats. So Apple got into the business of speakers and pulled the competition from its store. Amazon got into the streaming device business and pulled the competition from its store. Hmm?? Is there a difference? It's not like you can't buy Apple TV at the Apple store. In fact, why would you NOT buy it at the Apple store if given the choice.

The Apple Store is not a "general" store. It is a store for Apple products and peripherals which compliment them. It is a boutique store (with massive revenues).

The Amazon store is advertised as a major retailer of everything "from A to Z". That is their brand, and the reason why they are so huge. They are a Walmart, not a boutique.

Amazon can be a boutique store if they want. That is completely their choice. However, once they have betrayed the trust of their customers - who trust it to offer good deals on any and all (legal) products under the sun - in favor of blatant protectionist tactics, they will start to hemorrhage customers like an Ebola victim. They can become a boutique retailer, but they are not set up as anything special in that space, and will likely fail.

The place where this affects me as a long-time Amazon customer is (1) I will start being more wary of Amazon's contents and completeness of offerings; no longer will I assume that something not found on Amazon is not popular or worth consideration. And (2) the value of Prime shipping has been knocked down a seriously large peg; I won't be shopping at Amazon as much, so the shipping benefit loses significant value; and they apparently don't want the video offerings to be of value to me either.

2) Not making Apple TV app

- They don't make an Android app either (at least not directly). It's their business strategy. Maybe they don't want to pay the 15% Apple tax that Apple charges every Apple TV subscription service. Netflix in general is better than Amazon Prime anyway.

You have not been able to subscribe to anything in any of Amazon's iOS apps. They are still very useful. This is why Amazon won't offer inline rentals and purchases of videos, or subscriptions to Prime through their AppleTV app. It is not why there is no app at all.

Are you insinuating that Mr Robot and US Office are exclusive to Amazon? They are not (I watched Mr Robot next-day on my Apple TV).

As for Prime not suffering ... I don't know. I've heard a lot of dissatisfaction with Prime lately. I don't think it is the strong draw it was two years ago. This obstinance on Amazon's part will hurt AppleTV sales, of course, but I don't think Amazon's going to come out of the kerfuffle ahead. They are destroying their brand (sell everything, books/music/videos available everywhere) for short-term tactical advantage.

Like I said above, the only way this makes sense for Amazon is if the FireTV business is tanking horribly. This is a move of desperation.

For streaming in the UK, they are exclusive to Amazon yeah. Unless you buy the series from iTunes, which again you wouldn't do vs. the inconvenience of airplaying.

I don't think they'd only do it if they're struggling to sell FireTV, they are a company who makes aggressive business moves and I think somewhere along the line the data said this was a good move.

I hope no one came to this thread for good impressions and feedback because it pretty much just an Amazon vs Apple slapfight.

Expect the apps shown in the video to be the featured collection you see on the new iPad Pro. It will be all the same.

If you follow streaming closely you would know that Amazon is increasing their streaming capability having just picked up a bunch of contracts for movies that Netflix lost. Amazon is important to many and is widely available on streaming devices and smart tv's even Blue ray players. Most that care about Amazon streaming have a device that support it.

Apple is not playing in the same space because they do not presently have a video subscription streaming service.

Still going to be using my FireTV for Prime/Amazon content for now and the ATV for everything else.

Took less than 3 minutes of use with the new ATV to know that this is what I want to use all the time.

I agree with this but Amazon is playing in the same space as the Apple TV with FireTV so it makes sense for them to want to keep that edge over Apple.

Aaaaaw, Amazon is taking it's ball and going home.
actually they did that like a month ago. chromecast and i think Roku where also pulled

Apple should just come out and say . . . "any one is welcome to develop apps for Apple TV".

they basically already have. Apple isn't likely the issue here but rather Amazon wanting to restrict Prime to their stick as a way to sell hardware

This is also know in some circles as "Cutting off your nose to spite your face"

No it's called voting with your dollars, or capitalism. If everyone voted with their dollars rather than just except bs businesses like Amazon wouldn't try things like this. They are counting on complacency or sentiments like yours.

I received my new Apple TV 4, and while I find it to be generally awesome I CANNOT STAND ENTERING PASSWORDS. I use complex and unique passwords for literally everything. In the past I would just pop open the Apple Remote app on my phone, connect to Apple TV, and paste in these passwords. Unfortunately that app doesn't work with the new Apple TV, so I am left with breaking my thumb off trying to enter passwords with mixed case, numbers, special characters, etc.

And it is SO MUCH WORSE NOW because of all the third-party apps I can install.

are you sure the remote app doesn't work with the new apple tv? cuz if so, that is a PROBLEM! i don't think i will be using any app where i have to manually enter a password. if this is true, it needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY.

Yes Apple is a boutique store, but they still knowingly got rid of the competing accessories. They still sell cases and add-ons and various other accessories for their iphones, iPads, Macs, and iPods that are made from a multitude of manufacturers. Yet for speakers, they got rid of Bose to promote their only Beats product.

How is Amazon betraying its customers? There is no trickery here. They entered an industry as a newbie and are trying to position their product to gain as much market share as possible by promoting theirs and not the market leaders. Amazon doesn't sell everything in every consumer category. There is no betrayal here. It's a free market. If customers are looking for an Apple TV and Amazon doesn't have it, they should go and take their business elsewhere. For Amazon, it's a price to pay for sure but they are willing to risk it (for better or worse). Plus, how much margin do you think Amazon is going to make on Apple TVs anyway, knowing how stingy Apple is.

Sure for that one Apple product people will shy away from Amazon, but it's still the one stop shop for mostly everything else. The absence of Google Chromecasts and Apple TVs on its website is not going to change anything.

I sure am glad I PREORDERED ONE ON THE FIRST DAY AVAILABLE BECAUSE I WOULD'VE HATED TO JUST GO TO THE DAM APPLE STORE OR BEST BUY TO PICK ONE UP AND BE TRYING IT OUT NOW. BUT NO I'M COOL WAITING UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK.

Also can't cancel my order now because it's preparing for shipment, and right now it still hasn't shipped.

I may end up going to Best Buy, get one, and then for the other one just use it in my bedroom sooner than I thought I would. I planned on replacing both, but I haven't used the bedroom one as much recently.

God, I'm an Apple addict.
