Why does Apple have to be a dick and not add Amazon Prime it is not any different than the one on the iPhone they can make it just like the iPhone version where you can only watch Prime streaming or Purchased Downloads from Amazon.com that way Apple won't cry about competition.

This is becoming more like cable blocking customers where you are being forced to get a specific devices. Either way I should not be shocked the more people cut the wire sooner or later it is going to become like cable.

So you come to that conclusion on day one of the AppleTV app store? Look at the app store for the iPhone ..that had very little when it first appeared as well..but look at it now. I have a brand new TV with built in apps, but they don't work as nice or smoothly as the AppleTV nor does it have anything close the amount or quality of apps.
I'm sorry but comparing anything to the iOS app store and saying "look at it now" is just plain laughable. I hope the ATV app store does not get as full of junk like iOS. Finding anything that is not junk is extremely difficult these days.

Apple is not writing the software for third-party services. I assume that Amazon has not been interested in a cooperation like Netflix and others, otherwise Apple would have sure worked with them. Apple can't do much else.

The way one is supposed to find new apps seems tedious and clumsy, and these are only the launch apps. Imagine in a month or two when the catalog doubles and triples. Ugh. So far glad I'm not an early adopter on this one. Did Ive really give thumbs up on this?

Can you at least ask Siri to show you all the "arcade type games." or "TV apps"? Something, anything to help narrow down what the viewer is looking for?

I have written Amazon twice explaining that I will most likely not renew Prime. Not because I don't like the fast delivery, or that Amazon isn't an amazing place to buy many many things (which I do, believe me, you don't want to see the amount I spend per month at Amazon). But once they decide they are going to selectively remove items from their marketplace in order to "push" me into something I wouldn't have done then they are no longer a neutral marketplace. And without that I will not support them by spending money, nor will I trust their wares in the store. So in a futile attempt to get someone to adopt something they wouldn't they will end up losing a lot of customers.

On the other hand if they had not done that I would have probably bought a Fire TV stick and put in on another HDMI port and not cared.

This is just stupid.

This is also know in some circles as "Cutting off your nose to spite your face"

You should rather blame Amazon for not making the app available on the AppleTV ... don't think you can blame Apple this time.

Why are you assuming Apple blocked Amazon's app? The fact is Amazon did not develop a tvOS Apple. That is why there is no Amazon app. So rather than rant and call names how about seeking the facts out and then write about those?

I received my new Apple TV 4, and while I find it to be generally awesome I CANNOT STAND ENTERING PASSWORDS. I use complex and unique passwords for literally everything. In the past I would just pop open the Apple Remote app on my phone, connect to Apple TV, and paste in these passwords. Unfortunately that app doesn't work with the new Apple TV, so I am left with breaking my thumb off trying to enter passwords with mixed case, numbers, special characters, etc.

And it is SO MUCH WORSE NOW because of all the third-party apps I can install.

And I hate that there is no Amazon Instant Video. Will it come, or is it blocked by the feud going on between these two companies?

Asking for a $5 credit every time the deliver is late is absolutely reasonable. However - I don't want to dedicate the time and energy into that, and I bet most people would agree. I'd rather just cancel my service, see how much it's worth it to them to try to get me back.

I understand that. But to be honest, they were getting really sloppy with shipping there for awhile. After I went after them about three or four times for the credit they seem to have gotten their act together. I haven't had a missed deadline in a couple of months, and they seem to have picked up their game on communication, also. For instance, I had a Sunday delivery last week, and they couldn't deliver because it was coming to my office. My phone got lit up with texts and emails telling me that they attempted to deliver but couldn't.

The key is to make really short and insecure passwords ;)

Honestly if Amazon is instigating this Apple should just come out and say "we'd love to have Amazon Prime on Apple TV" or "any one is welcome to develop apps for Apple TV". Isn't Amazon's ultimate goal getting Prime subscriptions? You don't need Amazon hardware for that. Unless the Fire TV does something special that gets people spending more money in Amazon's ecosystem?

They did.

The article says:
In a statement provided to BuzzFeed News, Apple emphasized that the lack of Prime Video support on the new Apple TV is solely Amazon's decision.

I don't understand the crying about Amazon's tactics:

1) Pulling Apple TV from Amazon.com

- First of all, they did the same thing to Google Chromecast. Second, Apple did the same thing to Bose speakers after they acquired Beats. So Apple got into the business of speakers and pulled the competition from its store. Amazon got into the streaming device business and pulled the competition from its store. Hmm?? Is there a difference? It's not like you can't buy Apple TV at the Apple store. In fact, why would you NOT buy it at the Apple store if given the choice.

2) Not making Apple TV app

- They don't make an Android app either (at least not directly). It's their business strategy. Maybe they don't want to pay the 15% Apple tax that Apple charges every Apple TV subscription service. Netflix in general is better than Amazon Prime anyway.

Really? A failure of EPIC proportions? To me it just sounds like the Apple Stores received their inventory first. Not too surprising. Could have gone the other way. And then other people would have pronounced the fact they can't walk into a store and instantly buy a unit an Epic Fail as well.
I do think it's a fail when TVs ordered the first day the ATV4 was eligible to buy don't arrive by the time they show up in the stores UNLESS you add a $17 rush shipment "tax" on top of the cost. When you order a phone, they show up the day they arrive in the stores.

If you refuse to spend the cost of a few cups of coffee on an Amazon stick to get the service you are already paying for then that is your problem. Hell if you call them up they will probably send you one for free. I have a friend who was using an older Samsung Blue ray player that the app was no longer supported on and Amazon sent him free Blue ray player with a supported app.

They don't care. They already got your 100 bucks.

I got prime, because it is cheaper than paying for shipping each time and i purchase a lot through amazon. The fact they added on the movies is a bonus and one that i cannot use because of ATV. nebo is right, I could spend a few dollars and get the first stick. But I am all about integration and having multiple devices is not happening in my house. I refused to get the ATV at first because I had the blueray. When the ATV came in the blueray went out.

My wife already has a hard time switching between the ATV and the OTA channels, trying to add another device and she might just throw me out. ;)

I think the "feud" is pretty one-sided at this point. Apple has publicly stated that they welcome all apps to TvOS.

And Amazon has singled out the ATV to remove from their website with some pretty flimsy reasoning, saying that they "don't want their customers to be confused" into buying a device that doesn't support Amazon Prime. First of all, nobody who comes to Amazon to buy an Apple TV is going to be confused. Second, Amazon is a veritable third world bazaar of confusing home theater/media player/DVR type products.

Amazon, if they wanted to could port over the iOS version of their Fire player to TvOS in about two days. If it passed App store rules it could be up and running on the store within less than a week.

Apple doesn't write the app, and can't port it themselves.
It's Amazon's decision to not provide an Amazon Prime Video app for :apple:TV4.
Apple has said (indirectly) they'd welcome such an app; it's Amazon that's saying "no".

Next problem: even when using a vpn I get netflix in the wrong language. Obviously using location services? How to disable them for netflix??

My prime subscription is set to renew on November 18th. I will be cancelling it before it renews. $100/yr isn't worth it unless Amazon is willing to make a dedicated app for the ATV.

The shipping benefit isn't as much of a good deal as it used to be. It's not like I ever order under $35 worth of stuff on Amazon anyway, so shipping will still be free, just a tad slower. Lately the free 2-day shipping has actually been more like 3 days or longer anyway.

^This.

Just paid mine in June, so I'll be using it until then. But I'm regularly finding new shopping sites that match or beat Amazon on pricing and delivery.

For the Google TV, they do ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.avod ).

TBH, it's no great loss. For the few movies / tv shows that only Amazon have, I'll stick to using AirPlay ( as long as they don't remove that, too ).
