I'm hoping the basic doesn't loose features to the top tier.

My ATV3 was used for streaming all my data. Not downloading content to it.

I think it's unlikely they'll do this. I don't recall a time where there was feature fragmentation between models that are identical in design.

The problem with Amazon app on the Apple TV will be the same as on the iPad. No way to purchase anything from the app. Revenue thing as Apple takes a chunk out of every app purchase. Still need to do most of the work via Safari and the voice search maybe helpful but limited for this reason. My guess.

I think we are more interested in the Amazon Prime library, which requires no in-app purchase. Just like the Kindle Reader app.

I want an app store/apps so I can play my favorite iOS games on my TV with a great controller.

This! It could really be something especially with Square/Enix having the FF's including 7 now on IOS. the Dragon Quest games along with other retro ports. If other companies followed suit with a retro catalogue and if Apple could get Nintendo to wise up and port some classics over to IOS it would really be a game changer. (I can dream can't I)

I think this whole thing about Storage tiers is probably wrong. The whole idea around AppleTV2 was that you'd no longer download content, but stream it.

You also won't need a lot of storage for Apps, unless we get a full gaming Apple TV with very high performance games. Streaming apps should take very little space.

All I have to say is --- If these rumors come true I will be soo Happy!! YEAH!!

They need to support 4k + add 4k movies to iTunes. Apple needs to be the leader in things again instead of playing catch-up.

My guess, it'll support 4K, if not out of the box, through a software update.

The tech for it will be built in, it just depends if it's turned on. (or Apple could end up blocking 4K on this model, and introducing it a year later with an update, similar to what they did with the update in early 2012.

Seems strange that a universal search feature would require new hardware. My Tivo premier (which is 3 years old), already does this. Secondly, I'm surprised Apple isn't doing away with the remote altogether (i.e. to help drive iPhone/iPad/Apple watch sales), considering the same functionality is already built into the Apple Remote App for iOS

How about this.... We currently get cloud storage from Apple. What if this device became a sort of cloud based storage device for our pictures, videos and so on? I know, totally far fetched but just throwing it out there. Cheers!

the search isn't something i am SUPER EXCITED about...this is something that could have been done with typing years ago.

I hope this isn't a KEY FEATURE

I think you miss the "universal" part... which I take that as understanding it will search all outlets for a title providing you choices of where to view or purchase it from. This, along with making it SIRI driven I think is very cool.

I'm very excited to see what the new AppleTV will actually have... I hope it's the killer device we've all been waiting for and really "wow's" the market.

So far the new features doesn't really mean much to me (rumored ones). I want to wait and see what else this new Apple TV will have. Given that my Apple TV2 already does everything I want (stream movie from home server, project iPhone etc...), maybe I can score an Apple TV3 for $20-30 after the presentation.

Agreed. I think it is wishful thinking.

It'd be nice if this could operate as a time machine as well.. It's not like it wouldn't be capable of it.. or, heck.. just integrate time machine + airport extreme + ATV into one single device.

I love Apple but this seems very overpriced especially since there are so many streaming devices now. My Xbox has had universal voice search for years.

Really? The hard part is for the AppleTV to know exactly what content is running on each of your services. That requires a cloud-based assistant. So, how would you have done this "years ago"?

I think their point may be who has it for exclusive streaming vs paid. For instance, something I can stream on Netflix that shows up in Amazon's messed up confusing Roku app that makes you think you can stream it for free but then you realize you have to pay for it. Or something you thought was on Netflix but was bumped and Amazon picked it up.

That's really my only beef w/ Amazon video streaming is they make it seem for tons of stuff that it's included in Prime but then you realize it's not once you decide that you'd like to watch it. I know there is a dedicated "Prime" selection, but it just doesn't seem like a good UI in it's current condition.

Sounds like the whole Siri (requests, Proactive) might be making its way onto the Apple TV, with the same newly added Spotlight APIs to expose content to Siri. Wonder if: a) Handoff will be there as well, that'd be neat, e.g. start Netflix on the Apple TV and continue on Netflix for iOS, start Media on iPhone and resume on Apple TV; b) Will the App Store really be on the Apple TV? Or can we have the same model used with the Watch? The former would make it a standalone device but at the expense of experience, and with so many Apple-specific features in there already (Home Sharing, AirPlay, apps—Podcasts, Music, iTunes, Remote), why bother creating a device for people without an iPhone, those will use Chromecast and all the other stuff out there.

Next step would be bringing OS X closer into this circle, probably after El Capitan and with the death of iTunes.

Anyway, looking forward to 09/09/15.
