The AppleTV is really a fantastic product, however, it *really* needs to be cheaper. Much *much* cheaper. The 4K AppleTV should be no more than £99.
Based on what? You picking another arbitrary number doesn’t make it accurate.

Apple prices products based on their own logic, which is far more rigorous than your nonsense.

Bought my 4K about 3 months ago. Will have mixed feelings about this one, but I sure hope they redo the remote. The UX is horrendous, even with tvOS 13.x .

pretty much has to be A12X. the A10X GPU is still a beast and beats the A12 GPU. The only SoC that is faster in CPU and GPU than the A10X is the A12X.

Apple, give me macOS running on A12X in the Apple TV form factor for a reasonable price and I'll throw my money at you. (all you need is to take the Apple TV, increase RAM, storage, and switch to USB type C ports. done!)

It's due to the more cores in the 10X versus the 12 and the same for the 12X versus the 10X, and the 12X is the direct successor to the 10X. Those 12 cores in the GPU for the 10X is why it is a beast with Metal.

A new remote is the only thing I want. However we know how stubborn Apple is and will probably never get a good remote.

This is because Apple is all about form over function. Think about how great it would be if the AirPods had just a tiny bit of non-slip material in the case and on the buds so they didn't fly out of your hands/ears on a whim.

I'd like to see a HomePod merge with an Apple TV so you get an Apple TV with a soundbar appearance and HDMI-ARC. This way you're getting two products for the price of one. You'll usurp Sonos and you'll get Siri and Apple Music into more homes too increasing money on subscription services.

Apple won't do this but its a product I'd buy on day one of its release.

I see that Roku have just made the product that I wish Apple could produce: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/201...es-as-a-streaming-device-works-with-most-tvs/

I would really like to see a HomePod soundbar, as well as cheaper homepod speakers without Siri built in that just work as Airplay 2 speakers. Then you could use them as surround sound speakers with the Homepod in the living room, or as regular speakers in other smaller rooms like bedrooms or bathrooms where the original HomePod would be overkill.

I would not want the AppleTV functionality built in though. Speakers/AVRs/Soundbars tend to need upgraded much less often than stuff like an AppleTV. I would much rather buy a HomePod soundbar every 7-10 years or maybe even longer, and replace my AppleTV every 2-4 years.

It's THE recognised streaming box that is used by the BBC to measure the quality of their streaming services along with many commercial enterprises. Coming from a broadcasting background, I can assure you that Apple TV is the only box used in this field. Why? Because nothing else comes to the level required.
It's the ONLY streaming box to use a professional level 'Silicon Image Processor' in its HDMI route.
It's also the only box used by the audio/video manufacturers to measure their products by.

I'd regard that as pretty much a professional quality tool.

Whether that is a professional standard to you is entirely your perspective.

I find it incredibly decent of Apple to make such a decent product with components not normally associated with a domestic market. I certainly don't find that funny. But then, i've always regarded Apple products as products built to professional standards that just so happen are also sold to the domestic market.
Please stop, I can’t keep spilling coffee!

those suggestions aren't one more thing worthy. Its going to be a laptop running a custom apple arm cpu
Wrong. A system-integrated Tile replacement or new augmented reality glasses are 100% worthy and absolutely perfect for “one more thing”. An ARM-based MacBook would be, too.

New AppleTV remote comes with the rumoured tile tracker
Ha! This is great. I’ve been attaching an actual Tile tracker to the bottom of the backside of my ATV remote for years and it’s been great. Helps When it falls between the couch cushions, but also makes it super easy for me to pick it up in the dark and know which end is up.

Did you not see the article from a few months back? Unless Apple skimps on components and/or build quality or they start shipping millions more than they currently do, the Apple TV is already being sold at cost.

We are not going to see an Apple TV price reduction any time soon. It's not expensive, either, especially compared to the anemic CPUs their competitors use.

Nobody gives much of a **** about tile replacement. Sure, its a nice to have thing, but its nowhere near transformative as an Apple Watch. If that’s gonna be their ”one more thing” at a conference called “by innovation only”, well then good night Apple. Might as well use that stage time to present the monitor stand.

If there is a new AppleTV coming I will pre-order as soon as it is available. AppleTV's are all we use at our house for streaming services and also our hub for Apple Homekit. I have no problem using the remote but the majority of the time I use the remote app on my phone. I don't understand the hate for the remote. Didn't take me any time to get used to using it. To each his own I guess.

Love my ATV 4K. Love the remote. Will upgrade to the new model with no hesitation.
I love mine too, and absolutely don’t understand this chorus of whiners who keep dissing the remote. Are these people who just don’t take the time to get acclimated to the “newness” of it? To me, it’s the fastest, easiest, most responsive and intuitive remote I’ve ever owned.

I have purchased every AppleTV and can't wait for the new one. They're cheap, easy to set up, and have a wonderful interface. I love these little gizmos. The remote, on the other hand, is infuriating. Who makes a remote with glass that can shatter so easily? It's crazy. I purchased a remote cozy for mine from Bear Motion and it makes it easier to hold and orient...and it keeps the remote from shattering.

Glass on remote. Crazy.

Ever notice how so many devices made by Apple have to be wrapped up in a protector from a 3rd party? There's wisdom in there somewhere, Apple. Think about it.

I agree. I have no issue with the remote nor does my wife or kids. I can navigate quickly and without issue. Scrubbing is a godsend on this remote! And it lasts forever on one charge. I have two apple TV's and the remotes for both are still going strong.

I have owned just about every streaming box out there and this is easily one of my favorite remotes. The fireTV and Shield remotes being my least favorite.

Sell a version with the cheaper old remote for $99!
Agreed.

I think Apple should replace Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K with two models:
  • Apple TV 6: A12 and 32GB storage, HDMI 2.1 and built-in microphone
  • Apple TV Pro 6: A12X and 128GB storage
Two new accessories:
  • New Remote without a microphone, more ergonomically designed: $49 ($10 price cut)
  • Apple Game Controller: $59
3 SKUs:
  • Apple TV 6 without a remote (using iPhone as a remote): $99
  • Apple TV 6 with new Remote: $149 (same price as Apple TV HD)
  • Appel TV Pro 6 with new Remote and Game Controller and 1-year Apple Arcade subscription: $249

You've fallen hard for their PRO marketing BS... the Amazon device has the same functionality as ATV, but has a far better remote.

Indeed the Amazon device has more functionality: the AppleTV doesn't quantify all your viewing habits a selling and advertising algorithm.

In some ways, the Amazon device has less functionality. No screen mirroring, no built-in ethernet.
