Even though I like AT&T wireless (it's good in my area, and Verizon sucks in my area, LA), I think that talking and surfing is stupid.

Seriously, I have a better answer to this guy. Hang up the call, then surf.

And you can only talk and surf if you have speakerphone on, which...well you know...gets really annoying.

I'm talking and surfing and checking emails, contacts, etc, ALL THE TIME. Who are these trolling Verizon folks here? Geez, get a grip folks, you CDMA Verizon folks have to understand that, yes, you are new to the party, you are NOT the party. Just because you are like a wall flower doesnt mean that I can't use my beer bong every now and then. ;)

When you talk and surf, do you have speakerphone on?

lame

The stuff that these advertisement campaigns/people come up with crack me up...... BUT I have used voice and data many times and a lot of times it is to be productive and get stuff done.. Plus either way if you use it or not that don't you think we live in a time where you should be able to do this. Really plus Verizon,s 3g is slow.. I know right you all must think I am crazy but I actually like AT&T. So let the flaming begin.. I also need a gsm phone with a sim card for my overseas travels.

Hey we have something in common. I also like AT&T better. Verizon is overrated. Seriously, I live in Los Angeles and AT&T always has reception but not Verizon.

Secondly, I also have a PC called a Mac ;)

Of course, not, the beer bong would get in the way.

Hmmm
How would you talk and surf if speakerphone is not on? Otherwise you wouldn't hear what the other person is saying, and if you're on hold, you wouldn't know when they get back to you.

Oh right unless you use a Bluetooth headset. I never really see people using those though...

Geez someone has their underwear in a knot this morning. It's called BAM, BAM in like letting the other person know that I'm getting the info or checking something up and BAM BAM back, etc, instead of let me call u back. BAM BAM, get it, and remember BAM BAM is used every so often so I need my BAM BAM every now and then. Get it? Got it? Good. See oh life is great! BAM BAMMMMMMM

That is a pretty weak response. He could NOT wait for the phone call to end. There's absolutely no need to have voice and data at the same time. Verizon smartphone customers have been doing for how long now and we survive easily without it. What are the chances of this happening in real life? Extremely slim to none.

Sorry AT&T... Verizon's massive coverage (important for me since I travel a lot and AT&T 3G coverage is very spotty in my area) > voice + data. You should focus on the 3G speed over Verizon using data gathered by tech sites. That would be far better than trying to convince people that the need for voice + data outweighs 3G coverage.

No need to be a hater. I use voice + data quite often. I would very disappointed if did not have that capability anymore. I guess Verizon users won't notice what they've never had, so for them, it's not a big deal. No problem there. It's like before I had a DVR, I was perfectly happy not having a DVR. Now that I have one, I could never imagine not having it.

Am I the only one?

I'm wondering if it would be possible to get some Macintosh news/rumors on this site. See, since it's called Macrumors, that's kind of what I expect to see here.

Hey, do you use normal speaker, speakerphone, or bluetooth when you call and surf?

I use this feature quite a bit here in the uk. I get good 3G reception here though. Its crazy what you people will argue about sometimes.. Networks?! Really! You go for the option that works best for you. Why does anyone care what network other people use?

Yeah, it's annoying. Even though the iPhone IS more interesting to discuss, I will never buy ANY smartphone (in my life?).

I like Mac articles since they affect me, but now they have stopped affecting me so much since I'm still at Leopard.

Too bad the iPhone makes more money than the Mac...now Apple :apple: focuses on it more, which I understand.

I agree, however, some networks are faster than others. I just go with whatever has the best reception since my phone was $9.99 (after rebate), so I don't give a @#$% about data.

I'll preface this by saying I've been been a Verizon customer for about 6 or 7 years (RAZR, Voyager, BB Tour), and before that I had a Nextel (i95 color or whatever). I have never ever had a problem with Verizon's service. Never a dropped or scrambled call, whether I'm deep inside the middle of the mall, or at work (inside of a hospital surrounded by thick walls).

I also have Wi-Fi at work, at school, and at home; so I'm covered by Wi-Fi about 95% of my day. My commute to all these places is the only time I will not be able to use Voice + Data simultaneously, and quite frankly, would you want to be driving next to someone using V&D simultaneously?

Now I'm not going to be like some of the pro-Verizon people on here and proclaim that Voice + Data capability is truly useless, and a wasted feature. I would love to have the ability, as I'm sure once in a blue moon, I could find myself in a situation where it might come in handy. Why would us Verizon customers turn down an added feature, unless you're required to give something up to get that feature?

That's exactly what would happen if I traded in my Verizon network in exchange for the AT&T iPhone. Everyone I know (in the metro-Detroit area) with AT&T has far inferior service to the people I know with Verizon. The doctors I work with and other co-workers that switched to AT&T solely for the iPhone don't regret doing so, as the iPhone was the only phone at the time that offered all those useful apps (and still in my opinion does it better than any other app-featuring phone), but now that Verizon is offering the iPhone, they are ALL switching for the superior service.

I've waited 4 years for the iPhone to come out. There's no way I would have left Verizon's network, because I loved the service; I had a feeling that the iPhone would come to Vz eventually; and because my iTouch worked just fine with my Wi-Fi connections.

Some of you AT&T customers experience great coverage in their areas, and good for you. Don't switch. Having people on multiple carriers is a good thing. I'm sure I wouldn't be as happy with Verizon if everyone rushed over to it. In a few years, when everyone is on LTE, maybe all this complaining and arguing will go away. Until then, just pick whichever phone, on whichever network, works best for your needs. I personally, couldn't be more thrilled that I can finally get an iPhone and stop carrying around 2 devices!

Just an observation here..

I was at a Chicago Bulls game about 2 months ago. There was a younger guy directly in front of me with an iPhone4. He was texting throughout the entire game, as well as surfing the web. He would literally type in a website, go back and text< check webpage to see it still loading, go back to text, and repeat until the page was loaded.

I'm on Verizon, my blackberry absolutely sucks, but pages on my phone pull up fast. Much faster than i noticed with his phone. Now, I have no clue how good the service is in Chicago, specifically the west side, but I found that to be incredibly disappointing for an AT&T customer.

So Verizon cant talk and text, but if Verizon coverage is better than AT&T in your area, then it's a no brainer.

The guy in this commercial wouldn't have been able to do either if he was in my town. AT&T sucks here.

A quote from another poster:

Here is a very important consideration for LTE. For LTE-4G cell phones, LTE will initially be used for DATA only....the 3G will still be used for VOICE. However, LTE footprints are small and will take 3-4 years to buildup. So, users will be roaming in and out of LTE for years to come. If you are on AT&T, no prob...seamless. If you are on Verizon, look out. When you fall back to CDMA (from tower to tower) your voice or data will drop. Verizon will have some major drop issues in the years to come

I would rather be able to make a call

I think that commecial is about the only that ATT has going for them, everything else about there service sucks and atleast with my V-Iphone can actually make the call, he most likely has a microcell just outside the office to make that work.

im on the fone and surfing the web all the time, its very convenient. and att has great coverage where i live so i guess its just whatever works for you. But to say theres absolutely no need to have voice and data at the same time is just dumb. ignorance is bliss for verizon customers then since you wont miss what you've never had

But to stay on subject I'm a person who is considering an iPhone and need to decide between AT&T and Verizon. From what I've read I think that I would find myself wanting to browse while making a call. It seems highly likely that someone would call asking for information, or directions, or even the latest macrumors update!

I'm leaning towards AT&T though because of the recent reviews stating that their data is faster than Verizon's, which is more important to me than dropped calls, because I don't really make that many calls.

What you need to consider BEFORE purchasing is see who provides the best service where YOU live. Who cares if AT&T has faster data rates than Verizon... what good is a device (iPhone or otherwise) if you can't use it for its intended purpose. Seems you want the iPhone for its vanity... which to each their own, but let's be practical too.

FaroZ06:I use both the speaker and Bluetooth when surfing & talking.

THANK YOU!

Seriously, I've had a verizon smart phone for about 6 years now.. Never once have I needed to browse the internet while talking.

you've never needed to because you've never had the option.......
