I called them and changed to the 10GB plan. I was paying $145 for 1GB and now it's $145 for 10GB.

That's what I'm thinking about doing. When I upgrade my device though, can I go back to the 1GB plan for $145? I don't really need more data is why I'm asking.

Edit: just updated my plan. looks like its just part of the mobile share thing. So i can change it later, if necessary.

I can confirm that even if you are on contract, just need to be before 2/2/2014 (which mean all of us would be if you haven't sign a new contract today). you can be in the $15 per line, ~ super!!!! see attachment for my old 10 GB and new 10GB plan comparison.

all 8 lines are on contract and I got to my confirmation page and still shows $15. Got that page saved and hit submit in case they shows something different on next month's bill.

I am on contract 3 lines, not only did I go from $210/month to $145/month (Not counting my 25% FAN), even though I just renewed my contract by buying two iPhones in October and my 3rd line contract is not up till 11/2014, they made all 3 lines eligible to upgrade on the NEXT plan.

And, for those not sure - save your time and do not bother calling the customer service people. Log into you account and it will give you YOUR pricing. Actually seeing the pricing online made me switch.

Easy stuff. Really easy.

Funny. When I log into my account online, it shows that my monthly plan is $155 in one place, $140 in another place and it shows $130 when I log in via myAT&T on my iPhone. I've tried calling in and working with the sales reps several times today, but none of them are able to help. I'm thinking something weird happened with my account when I made this change.

*edit* I'm expecting to see $100 for the 10GB data plan and 2 x $15 charges for the two phones on my account. One is off contract and the other has 16 months remaining.

I got the runaround from AT&T today also. I pay $120 for 10GB and $30 each for 5 iPhones, all still under contract. First the CSR told me I couldn't change until the contracts expired. After talking to a supervisor she told me she could charge me $160 for 10GB (a $40 INCREASE) and $15 for each phone. I told her to forget it. I'll call again tomorrow - their website says I will be moved to the new plan automatically anyway, but then there is also mention of the $25 per line discount, which would mean I'd effectively only be paying $5 per line. Confusing. I can't do anything on their website as it gives me no options.

So went from 5 iPhone lines paying 275 a month to 175 keeping the 10GB shared data. Now in 16 months 5 of those lines will be eligible for a 2 year subsidy plan so $40 per line instead of the $15 it will become, bumping up the price of my plan from the 275 i use to pay to... 100+40+40+40+40+40=$300, but for 16 months I am saving 100 dollars a month than i was paying.. so 1600 dollars.. but after those 16 months I will be paying 600 more dollars than before over 2 years of contract (300-275x24months)...

So while I save 1600 over the next year and 4 months.. In reality, my bill in 16 months will INCREASE in price for the life of my plan afterword by 25 dollars a month (assuming of course I opt for subsidy option).

Longterm, AT&T will still end up making more money.

myattrpc.com

So for 4:apple: Ipnone 5's in which I payed $200 each in addition to the $230 a month in October of 12' has cost me about $3500 b4 taxes. To date $4250 in about 13 months.

Now with the Next plan it is $100 for the 10gigs and $15 for the 2 phones I'll keep using and $40 for the New 16gig and 32gig 5S'(with the 10gig plan or more your bill will say $40 but with the credit of $25 for each its $15!!! That's where the confusion lies. It says $40 but indeed with the 10gig plan or more its $15; no if ands or butts: you'll get the $25 credit off each on the bill!)

So $100 for 10gigs plus $15+$15+$15+$15 Its $160 plus fee's.
Now 2 new 5S' one 16gig at $32.50 and 32gig $37.50 is $70 (at 12th month return it and get a new iphone etc.. and you'll start those 2 over or simply pay the balance after that and they are yours. But keep it for 20 months and you've payed them off! That's up to you!!!

So it's $230 with 2 new phones and using 2 of the phones from the other contract. Plus tax etc... Keep in mind that now you can unlock those phones not being used since there is NO contract with them; more to come with that as I submit the unlock request tomorrow or I might wait till the new phones arrive.( Will start a new Thread based on more info I can verify on that! So TBC!!!)

The Key here is that it's allowed to go from familly plans etc... in contract dated a few months back(you might get away with this if you've been a customer for a while and have upgraded to a 2 year contact as recently as December of 13'.
I've done this!
I've Gone to ATT Next and by default the phones are No Longer on Contract! (Call and get this done and if they say you can't upgrade, get someone else cause of of 10:30 pm super bowl sunday most CS reps aren't aware. Online chat is easy except that they can't process the purchasing of new phones if you do that. Online is hit or miss especially since it gets you to other pop-ups etc...
So call if you need the new phones for Next or online. If existing customer and just going with those phones you already have than online or chat is just fine.

myattrpc.com will sum it all up for you!

~~~~~ myattrpc.com ~~~~~
For those of you with Unlocked phone service on mvno's etc.. think about the stability and the fact that you can tether and now get hot spot for around the same price!(Someone help me on this) If att has great signal by your individual needs etc then do this! If it's T-mobile than go with them!) Many of us have older devises from att so It's a matter of a phone call or chat! Again the devises are now yours!!!
Good Luck and ask away if you need more info since i've pretty much been verifying this the whole second half; you guys and gals who watched the game know what I mean!!! :D
True that in the future you would be paying more with a subsidy, but it will only come to around $150/phone over 2 years:
$25/mo x 24 months = $600 (with subsidized phone) - $450 subsidy = $150 difference
You, and me, and everyone else now, would likely be better off buying a phone outright if you have the extra money to spend at the time.
thanks is there any downside to purchasing contract free? on the apple website we would just choose the sim free option? then bring to att store? altho i know the process maychange when iphone 6 comes out
The billing will be done weird, too. The rep I talked to said that the additional phones on your bill will show $40, but right underneath that it will show a $25 credit for each.
End of the day while At&t is making less money per month the consumer pays more at the end of 24months *provided they upgrade devices every 24 months. Now this is coming from a person that also just switched over...
I have 4 lines with Fan discount. The numbers below show straight plan prices.
The original Family Share Plans when introduced looked this this. The item to note was the decreasing per phone price as the data pool increased.
For me it was a no brainer to go with 6GB as it was the same cost as 4GB
attachment.php
At&t then revised the Family Share Plan pricing structure removing the decreasing per phone price and now added the No contract device pricing as well.
With the new subsidy pricing my plan would go up $10/month due to the $40 per phone across the board
attachment.php
With the new Value plan I save $70 monthly and gain additional data
attachment.php
Now the catch... (Using iPhones as examples)
Subsidized Prices are $199/299/399
Full Retail Prices are $649/749/849
at&t is paying $450 or $18.80/month over the course of 24 months per phone.
$450 *4 phones = $1800
$70 savings/month * 24 months = $1680
End result is paying $120 more per 24 months provided I upgrade all 4 lines
Question... Has anyone checked their online account and verified that the 10GB Value Share plan $100 price and $15 per line shows up? I switched over early Sunday morning.
My account reflects the old price for 10gb and $40 a line for 5 lines. Just curious because carriers are notorious of making requested changes to your account, but when the bill comes out it doesn't reflect those changes. Resulting in multiple and long aggravating calls to straighten everything out after the fact.
I would think that by now these new price changes would have updated and reflected in my account details online.
Yes, they do on mine, but I'm still sticking with my old plan.
I see AT&T stopped offering the individual plans.
Yep. Although I'm grandfathered for the moment. Going to drag that out for a long as I can.
----------
Occasional lurker here, just made an account to ask actually - is there some kind of catch with these new plans? My family of four recently switched to AT&T's no-contract shared data plan, bringing our own unlocked phones, and we pay $180 for unlimited talk/text/6GB shared.
Yes they likely are feeling pressure.
The reason for the pricing difference is that ATT has never discounted phones for being off contract, for any reason. So you paid the same $60 on contract as off even though there was no subsidy to pay off. T-mobile decided to go the other way, split the device from service. And it has gotten quite a few folks. Now ATT is needing to respond. Which is what and this new plan arrangement is.
If they will let you drop to this set up with no penalties go for it
----------
I don't really understand. I have two smart phones on a 1 GB plan and they are both under contract. So I am paying $45 + $40 + $40 for a total of $125. If I switch to this plan, will I be paying just $130?
And for more data. You have to consider that in the equation. For some that is a serious issue. If you go over that can hurt in fees. So that security of knowing you have more to work with even if you choose to not go nuts (so it stays just a security blanket) is worth $5 for many so they can avoid three times that possible overages.
Me, I'd like to see them offer this without requiring two phone lines. Give me a one phone and tablet offer with a discount like this. Until then I'll stick with my grandfathered plan
Mine was showing $40 per line on my iMac but $15 a line on my iPad. I got rid of the cookies on my iMac and now it shows $15 per line.
Thanks for the reply Rayfire... you mentioned you are sticking with your old plan and I'm aware when you go through the change plan option online it indicates the discounted prices. However, for those who went through the entire process and signed off on the confirmation page, when you logged off and logged back in, are the prices (that you seen when selecting your plan) reflected on your account detail page?
I signed up via telephone and my prices still show pre-Value Share prices.
Just so I could get that warm and cozy feeling, I called CS to confirm my new plan prices. She stated that I'm indeed switched over in their system, although my online account doesn't reflect theses new changes. She said since this is a promotion involving discounts my online account details will show the old data share pricing tier, and the discounts will only reflect on my bill not online.
Oh we'll guess I have no other choice but to wait until my bill is released for final confirmation. I just have this gut feeling I will be making unnecessary frustrating CS calls after my bill is released.
Didn't think of that EDH667.... I will give that a try and report back.
Thanks!!!
Bingo!!! That worked!! I had to log in from another computer and when I logged in it shows the total plan costs including my 5 lines. First that threw me off because I was looking for something that reflected $100 for the 10gb and a breakdown by line or $15 per line. Guess I have to get used to the new way:)
Anyway I'll take that is confirmation enough. Again thanks!!!
Here are the details for those that are still on contract.
On Contract - $40 per line for remaining contract then it reduces to $15 per line after it rolls off contract.
Can somebody tell me how this works if still under contract and if it'd apply to me? I'm so confused if I can save money I'm all in but if it'll extend my current contract I'll pass. I also don't mind if I lose my grandfathered unlimited iPhone plan as I'm usually on wifi.
Now here's what I pay and what we have. I have 2 phones with AT&T, one iPhone 5 and one cheap flip phone. We pay $50 for shared Family Nation plan $30 for my iPhone data plan and simpy $10 for the flip phone. We don't have any texting plans and are limited in our minutes, however I am unlimited with my iPhone data. I am paying about $95 bucks with taxes keep in mind no text plans and limited minutes. We are off contract from both of our phones in August. So would these saving apply to me? Are you guys saying if I'm under contract I can pay $40 bucks for each line at a total of $80 instead of the $95 what we pay now for 2 phones with no texting? I don't mind changing my plan to save but not if they'll tack on another 2-year contract as ours is up in August and I do want the next gen iPhone.
Ok so I'm strongly considering switching to this plan but just want to review all the numbers and make sure I'm not missing anything from my considerations.
My husband and I currently pay abor $144 per month after my 24% FAN discount and taxes etc. We both have iPhone 5s which we got when they came out. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan of which I usually use 4-5gb, occasionally going over 5 and being throttled, and he has a 2gb data plan which he never goes over and has only come close a couple of times.
With this new plan, we would be looking at $100 base minus $24 FAN discount, plus $15 per line, for a total of $106, probably around $120 after taxes etc, which is a nice savings.
However, that would change once it came time to upgrade. Assuming prices stay the same for the iPhone 6, we would be looking at an extra $58/month total for two 32gb phones with the two-year Next plan. So now our monthly total is about $178, a lot more than we're paying now. Of course, it would save the $300 each we would normally pay when upgrading our phones. If you divide that $600 out over the 26 months, that's a savings of about $23/mo, bringing the "true" monthly cost to about $155, still over $10 more than what we pay now.
The main benefits of the new plan would be the ability to tether (I have a wifi only iPad so that would be very beneficial to me), more (useable) data, and not having to shell out $600 outright every 2 years.
So from now to when we upgrade (October-ish), we would save almost $200 total, but after that we would be looking at an extra $120 or so per year for the foreseeable future.
Does all of that sound about right? Am I missing any aspects of this? Thoughts on if it's worth it to make the switch? Thanks!!
Can someone explain this the new plan clearly for me? We would have 3 smart phones and a basic phone. If I do att next do add $25 for each phone onto the $160?
If anyone is curious if the new plans would save them any money or not, just factor the plan as though you were under contract, add $25 per line, and see if thats less than what your paying now.
Right now I have 9 Lines and pay $360 a month, if I were to switch to these new plans it would drop to $235, a savings of $125. However with my current set up I get 9 upgrades a year, so if I were to say do the same and upgrade those lines with the new plan, i would be paying $460, an increase of $100 dollars a month.
Also, the at&t next isn't quite as bad now as everyone is making it out. Remember when you trade the phone in you still owe on the phone, so it would be the same as selling your old one to subsidize the new one. So lets say you get an iPhone, at&t's website is showing that is $32.50 per month for 12 months, thats $650 when you pay it off, same as if you buy outright. Now if at the 12 month mark you decide to trade in your phone for a new one, that means you still had 8 months of payments left, which at $32.50 a month would be $260. So if getting the extra $40-$140 by going through ebay or craigslist is worth it to you your better off selling and buying yourself, but if you don't want to deal with that, your basically only losing out $100 a year to not deal with that.
----------
Depends on how you upgrade the phones. If you do a regular upgrade and sign up for 2 years, then yes you would add $25 for each smartphone, there is no extra charge for the basic phones.
If you upgrade through at&t next, you still only pay $15 per line, but you would also have an additional next payment which varies depending on the phone you got. An iPhone for example is an extra $32.50 if you do a 20 month payment plan, or $25 if you do the 26 month plan.
Yeah that's the basic gist of things. My wife and I do not upgrade phones very often and she just got a new 5S so it's a no-brainer for me to switch to this. ATT in the long run isn't losing money on any of this, they aren't stupid. They will make a killing on people using Next to upgrade their phones every 12 months, especially iPhones since they hold their value so well.
I'm paying $55/mo less and getting 6GB more data, so it's definitely a good deal for me. We'll see when it's time to upgrade phones if it still makes sense. Over the lifetime of the deal I think it will still be worth it even with the Next pricing.
Thats about it, except you would still have the option of getting a subsidy every 2 years like you currently do, so it would be the price of the phone plus $25 a month for 24 months after that.
It would not be a good plan for you as you described your usage. The plan requires the $100 10g data plan to start so, your number assumption are not right.
