Whatever the next iPhone will look like, I certainly hope it doesn't look like these mockups - Yuck!

It seems apparent that Apple has improved their security of any information regarding this iPhone leaking out after last years iP4 debacle.

Let's wait and see what Steve shows us "this fall."

Have I missed a rumor somewhere

Is there some indication that the home button on the next iPhone might itself be a touch pad? With the entire screen being a touch pad, I guess I just don't see the point. Look, Ma, two finger scrolling...

Can't wait to see the iPhone 5. I've been thinking that the iPhone 4 is great and I'll hold out for an LTE iPhone. I have a feeling that when I see the new iPhone, I'll want it anyway. :)

hmm i think it would look nice with similar design concept as the ipad 2.

Hmmm..

Regardless of design, I'm due for an upgrade in november so here is hoping SOMETHING new comes out.

I think it makes sense that they would move the iPhone launch to september (the time of the regular iPod release) since each of the 'New' iPod devices are likely to include some form of 'iOS'.

In any case, that mockup is absolutely vile and the case rendering looks a bit amateur. I'm not holding my breath.:D:apple:

I didn't like the fatty iPod nano when I first saw the design, but was OK with it in person. I'll wait until I can actually see a new iPhone before I form an opinion on it.

I hope they don't return to a curved back. I love the symmetry of the iPhone 4 and how it lays flat. I do think an aluminum casing like MacBooks have would be really cool. A bigger screen is definitely welcome.

At the end of the day though I think the iPhone 4 has a beautiful design and if they didn't change it, I wouldn't be that surprised.

I like how it lays flat, too. And I love the aesthetic design.

But it isn't comfortable at all to hold. Curved backs are better for function.

I don't want the iPhone to get any thinner please. The iP4 is great. But honestly the current touch is too thin and easy to drop. At some point you need some sides to grip.

Personally I think it will take on a similar look to the iPad 2 and original iPhone. So essentially a look similar to the original iPhone but thinner.

Features will be-

A5
32GB/64GB storage
8MP camera
HSPA+ support

I like it... mostly. The larger, gesture-based home button would be a great addition, and I would love a larger screen. However, I do not like how they made it slimmer at the bottom. :(

Oh well, it's just a mockup. Can't wait to see the real thing. :)

good design

I think a cool design would be to keep the iPhone 4 look, but make a unibody back case. Having the sides and the back be one piece. For me though I think it would have to be the polished aliminum look that is on the Macbook Pro. If you do that then you also have to put the antenna on the top like the iPad, which I think looks pretty neat any how...

But, like every time Apple has their own plans and they always turn out better than ours...

Rather than increasing screen size within the present phone width,
I'd rather see the phone edges shrink down to the edges of the present screen width...

The thing still has to fit easily in my pocket. Make a tighter phone with same screen dimension! Svelte and powerful.

Could be handy as a control pad for games.

Question: If they change the aspect of the screen, do developers have to change their apps to fit the new screen?

If so, they would have to have two apps for the different screen size right because of the people who didn't upgrade right away? So it just adds to the headache...

God that looks ugly!

I'm sorry but theres no way in hell Apple would ever release a phone that goes right up to the edge, without a border it just wouldn't work...it serves two purposes:

- Design
- Holding the phone. Without the border you'll be constantly 'clicking' items....it just doesn't work.

Correct. Currently when designing a universal App you have to have:

- Original iPhone/3G/3GS graphics
- iPhone 4 "Retina" graphics @2x resolution
- iPad graphics

Add too many to the mix and it just becomes unmanageable.

Design

I actually like the design...On another note, after more than 4 years of visiting this site almost every day, I just realized that the MacRumors logo has a question mark in it...wow.

Ugh, NO.

The iPhone 4's design is about as perfect as I've ever seen. Please let's not change it and return to the curved back with thin edges that's harder to grip.

Using a stronger glass for the back, or even polycarbonate, would solve the back glass breaking issue. Also, the best thing about the iPhone 4 design is how easy it is to make form-fitting, protective cases that don't add a lot of bulk.
