Correct. Currently when designing a universal App you have to have:

- Original iPhone/3G/3GS graphics
- iPhone 4 "Retina" graphics @2x resolution
- iPad graphics

Add too many to the mix and it just becomes unmanageable.[/QUOTE]

Wow, yeah i don't know how well that would go over with Apple. You're right "unmanageable".

God that looks ugly!

I'm sorry but theres no way in hell Apple would ever release a phone that goes right up to the edge, without a border it just wouldn't work...it serves two purposes:

- Design
- Holding the phone. Without the border you'll be constantly 'clicking' items....it just doesn't work.

Just how fat are your hands? I can easily hold my phone without covering the screen (or where the screen would be in this case).

Also, I seem to remember everyone saying that the "stolen" iPhone 4 was ugly and that they would not buy it if that is what it looked like. How did that work out?

IDK everyone is saying this is ugly as can be... I personally would like a bigger screen, thinner, and get rid of the glass back... I like my phone outside of a case and if it had a metal back then I wouldn't have to. (not like the itouch metal back)

I completely agree. The current design is terrible, I would take the original design over this in a heartbeat.

Still, I think this slim curved design would be a huge improvement. Weren't there rumors of apple buying up all the curved glass?? I could stop feeling so jealous of friends that use the nexus s.

Iphone desperately needs to innovate...

Question: If they change the aspect of the screen, do developers have to change their apps to fit the new screen?

If so, they would have to have two apps for the different screen size right because of the people who didn't upgrade right away? So it just adds to the headache...

I doubt they'd change the screen aspect ratio.

Again People are complaining about not being able to hold a device that has edge to edge displays. Do these people not realise that edge to edge display still have a - albeit much smaller - border. Unless your monstrously obese with fat sausages for fingers using the device won't be an issue.

Case front and back ?

Is it me or does it seem that the front of the phone is upside down in this case design. Or the mockup is wrong and the button is now on the top :p

I hope they don't return to a curved back. I love the symmetry of the iPhone 4 and how it lays flat. I do think an aluminum casing like MacBooks have would be really cool. A bigger screen is definitely welcome.

At the end of the day though I think the iPhone 4 has a beautiful design and if they didn't change it, I wouldn't be that surprised.

The way I interpret the design of this mock-up is not with a curved back, but with tapered edges, like the iPad2. It would still lay completely flat. Of course it is only a mock-up and may not be the iPhone5 at all.

What? This title makes no sense.

It makes sense. It is saying that these new case designs are reviving the older rumors that hit a few months ago about the iPhone having a bigger screen, tapered aluminum back, and a larger touch sensitive home button. They called them "unlikely" because most people at the time of the initial rumor said this would never end up happening.

i would get it.

Although right now that my 3 year old 3GS is failing (a insensitive spot on the screen where the "U" on the keyboard is) I will take any iPhone 5 regardless of the design. It's a phone so I don't care how exactly it looks as long as it works like an iPhone.

The only reason not to get it is if there is a relatively cheap unlocked iPhone 4 at the same time released.

it should say "Rumors" on the end.

That design looks fine to me. Actually I'll go with any design where I can get some more screen real estate. The iphone screen is just too small compared to the competition at this point. I mean come on, the screen is where all the action is. Who really cares about a bezel or such?

Exactly my feeling too. For me, its a necessity, just for the pure fact that typing isn't so easy on such a small screen. I'm a huge texter so if u combine a little larger screen to Apple's unmatched touch-panel, the 5 could be perfect.

Flat back. Curved edges.

The device in the image shows that the back is mostly flat, with curved edges for better "hand feel." A lot like the current iPod touch.

Then again, maybe iPhone 5 will have the same front/back glass panels as iPhone 4. But with a thinner stainless steel band in the middle of the sandwich. That seems like the easiest way to make the next iPhone thinner. Maybe the 2012 iPhone will have a major redesign other than just being slightly thinner.

There is 0 consensus about the new phone. Despite hearing a million rumors on it, I have no idea what new features it will have nor what it will look like.

Some things are known.
8 megapixel camera (Sony leak)
A5 chip dual core/dual graphic
1080p recording
+ everything from iphone4.

I don't know what more you can put into a phone.
NFC could be fun.
Edge to edge screen.
Bluetooth4
double ram
dual LED flash

Actually, you can have a screen that is not touch sensitive everywhere but displays across the whole screen. This can be done around the perimeter to eliminate accidental clicking. Learning curve would be pretty short.

According to that, the home button is at the top...

Obviously a fake.

You're holding it wrong...upside down in fact.

My opinion: I love the Macbook Air inspired teardrop design. I also cant wait for quick app switching by swiping left and right on the home button.

For those of you saying, "without a border you'll touch the screen accidentally": how do you hold the phone now? Do your fingers honestly touch the front border? It still has sides and a back. It rests in your hands and you touch the front with your thumbs.

If the iPhone 5 looks anything like the mockup, then I'm sticking to my iPhone 4.

Came here to post exactly this, although I'd replace "sticking with" with "buying". At least it'll be at a discount. :)

It will be curved, flat, include exclusive voice control unless it's just a part of iOS 5, very different and pretty much the same.

Good job Apple misinformation team!

Ugh, NO.

The iPhone 4's design is about as perfect as I've ever seen. Please let's not change it and return to the curved back with thin edges that's harder to grip.

Using a stronger glass for the back, or even polycarbonate, would solve the back glass breaking issue. Also, the best thing about the iPhone 4 design is how easy it is to make form-fitting, protective cases that don't add a lot of bulk.

I don't understand why you would be up in arms about a design change if you like your iphone 4 so much? Just keep your iphone 4!

I would like to just see the iphone look like the ipad2 but smaller. Curved back edges, no bezel, matte aluminum back (scratch, crack, smudge resistant!!!)

The front home button on this mock-up is just bufugly. NO way apple is going to put a huge gaudy home button like that on the next iphone.
