wtf

Yeah Im sure they will ditch the current beautifully engineered iPhone design. For a curved back POS. These fools are just trying to collide an iPhone and iPad 2 at speeds near 186,000 miles per second and see what result they get. Also, the gesture area is completely foolish, all you could do with that is swipe right and left. I could design a better iPhone than this. (maybe the new iPod touch myself)

I remember a time, oh about 13-14 months ago when there were pictures of a phone rumored to be the next iPhone. Most forum posters chided: "ugly! no way I'm buying it! what are they thinking?!?" That phone turned out to be the iPhone4 which is damn near iconic now. If Steve Jobs or Jony Ive had a hand in that sliver mock-up, I'd bet on it selling-out, causing lines, inspiring countless copycats. Just sayin' Apples had a pretty strong track record on these things. Like it or not now; you will when it comes out.

im sick of things getting smaller and thinner.. I was going to hold off for the next iphone but if it is thinner, im just going to buy an iphone 4.. Can someone tell me why thinner is better ? I look at the mac book air and im sorry but its a total turn of.. And the sad thing is, I love apple..

tear drop-NEVER

This tear drop idea will never see the light of day. Have you seen the inside of an iphone? there is a lot of stuff in there, where is it all going to go? to the top of the phone.. ok so now you have a top heavy phone, not a balanced one that you can balance on your shoulder between you head.

This phone design is purely SCIENCE FICTION.

There comes a point when a phone becomes too thin to hold comfortably. Apple's obsession with thin is starting to hurt the functionality of some of their products.

I believe the curved design and larger screen will definitely make it into this update, and I feel this way because of the lengthy delay and the iPhone 4's beautiful but flawed antenna design.

Uniformity is what Apple has been going for. Merging iOS and Mac OSX is the first hint towards this.

I believe the next generation iPhone design will follow suit to the iPad 2 and Macbook Air designs.

We will see a revamped iPhone 5, iPod touch and thinner Macbook Pro come later this year, with all designs being uniform.

Both the iPhone 5 and next gen iPod touch will be all aluminum, curved back, larger screen.....basically smaller versions of the iPad 2 design.

The Macbook Pro will follow suit with the Macbook Air, with an all aluminum look, thinner design, retina displays and perhaps no optical drive and standard SSD.

Then finally come spring time next year we will see the iMac line follow suit with retina display, no optical drive, standard SSD.

Perhaps about the same time an iPad 3 with a retina display as well?

Uniformity, simplicity, I believe this is the future of Apple products.

Mockups of new iPhone appear: "That's not an iPhone! It's ugly!"
New iPhone gets leaked: "That can't be a new iPhone! It's ugly!"
The same "New iPhone" releases: "It's... BEAUTIFUL"

EVERY YEAR.

I know what you mean. It seems like a never-ending vicious cycle.

Yeah .. but it is also a problem of internet perception .. there are very few people on a forum that are perceived with a personal opinion (usually for their extreme positions) .. the rest of us is just the iSheep flock. So when a ton of people here whine about the current design, that may not necessarily be the same crowd that praises the new design afterwards.
Although I do believe those switcher also exist to quite an extend.

T.

The home button doesn't make sense at all. Why have a gesture area when you have a touch screen? As for the "edge to edge" screen I don't like it. All the iPhones till now were greatly designed. And if the 4s/5 are like this picture or something similar I'm not gonna get it.

I'm not saying this is real, but everyone said the leaked iPad 2 case plans made it look ugly and said it was fake.

But when they turned out to be real... and we saw the final product, it was actually gorgeous.

Moral... you can't tell what a product will actually look like, from something like this. Even with a rubbish mocked-up render.

I imagine something with the aesthetic of the iPad 2, scaled down to the size of a phone. Personally I hate the iPhone 4 design, I think it looks blocky and thick with that big metal band around it, that has caused so many problems... and the glass back just seems gimmicky and impractical to me.

I love the subtlety of the way the glass front of the iPad 2, bevels into the aluminium back. So when you look at it from the side, it makes it look even thinner than it actually is. If they do that with the iPhone 5, I will be a happy bunny.

iPhone 3GS come to mind??

theres no way after that much time they will release the same phone! its going to be a new design so get over it 4 owners!

Yeah sorry I forgot just how much the shape changes from 3G to 3GS im sure this could never happen again, the Verizon iPhone is the same shape apart from the slight change the the side button position. humm only time will tell

...and yet, look at how Apple went from the iPad 1 to the iPad 2 in such a short period of time.

Don't underestimate how amazing technology is at the moment... and how much money Apple is making, to plough back into its technology.

No way is the phone going to have the sloping back shown in the mock-up. Sure it would be alright sitting on a table in portrait, but who wants the screen leaning to the right or left if using the phone in landscape mode.

Now how about a mini iPad style magnetic cover, cute?

great point.

another practical example illustrating why this is a bogus report.

Please Stop using such Images! This Design looks awful.
No way the next Iphone will look that junky.

(And yes, I know "junky" is not a real word.)

clever, really clever,,,you know about as much as most of the people complaining on this thread....if Apple are such fools why are they one of the leading technology companies in the world?
It's a case of pot calling the kettle with you...

That mockup does not fit the CAD drawings of the casings, at all. So focus on the case, not that dumb mockup.
