Article Link: Unlikely iPhone 5 Design

iPod Touch 5G

I have 4G, and this mockup has similarities (aside from huge screen)

(PS, how make small image?)

Isn't it possible that this is the next Touch and not the next iPhone?
This is very possible, as that mockup does not have the mute button which is found on every iPhone just above the volume buttons...

Uh...no. Ass-ugly.

I'm doubtful about an 8MP camera, too. Just sayin'.

I'm guessing antenna tweak, A5, maybe a different (stronger) back, but very similar to iPhone 4. Don't get your hopes up, peeps. Nothing drastic design-wise until next year.

Question: If they change the aspect of the screen, do developers have to change their apps to fit the new screen?

If so, they would have to have two apps for the different screen size right because of the people who didn't upgrade right away? So it just adds to the headache...

I doubt they'd change the screen aspect ratio.

Again People are complaining about not being able to hold a device that has edge to edge displays. Do these people not realise that edge to edge display still have a - albeit much smaller - border. Unless your monstrously obese with fat sausages for fingers using the device won't be an issue.

Speak for yourself. My hands aren't fat in the slightest and after having a Nexus One, which has a smaller border on the edges of the screen, it's terrible. Just holding it semi-tightly caused errant touch. It doesn't take much to activate a capacitative screen.

Mockups of new iPhone appear: "That's not an iPhone! It's ugly!"
New iPhone gets leaked: "That can't be a new iPhone! It's ugly!"
The same "New iPhone" releases: "It's... BEAUTIFUL"

EVERY YEAR.

Well said, and don't forget the "Apple wouldn't put seams in the bezel!"

The mock up looks ok, but then again, this is the second mock up case i've seen. The first one, which was reported on here, had the flash on the opposite side of the camera, but with a very similar design to the current iPhone.

We won't know till it's held in Steves hand/officially announced. Is it an iPhone 4S/ iPhone 5? Could it be the next gen iPod touch? Could Apple be designing the next phone similar to the iPad 2? Just like the reports about the next gen 15" MBP being similar in design to the MBA?

All we can do is speculate/guess, and wait for more info.

I'm more concerned with the guts...

I don't so much care what it looks like, so much as I care about what's inside. With AT&T unleashing up to 15 markets on LTE by the end of the year, it would seem silly to not support it -- but then again, Apple wasn't an early adopter on 3G either. Sigh.

theres no way after that much time they will release the same phone! its going to be a new design so get over it 4 owners!

The greatest thing about the iPhone is that Apple specifically designs the hardware, and the software together, so you can remain guaranteed that the user experience will always remain top notch. My only concern is the extended time period of a couple of months added to the length of the iPhone 4 contract due to lack of a new phone. Sure 2 years remains 2 years, but no iPhone 4 owner will upgrade to the 5 in july of next year when the iPhone 6 is so close.

Wow! Giving Ive a run for his money with this one. Would love to own an iPhone that looked like this. Kind of reminds me of the magic mouse design with that curved shape. I hope whoever designed that does product design as a career, and if not they should quit their day job.

One requirement of designing something is that it must be functional. Not sure that would be.

All Glass Design?

The linked article speculates the use of touch sensitive buttons replacing physical hardware buttons, and the possibility of the hundreds of glass cutting machines Apple bought earlier in the year used to create a curved glass back.

Intriguing possibility, and more in keeping with the Apple aesthetic. This is just speculation by the linked phone case website, but if true, this would be a very pretty phone. No physical buttons, just glass.

It won't have a bigger screen, this can't be done without diluting the pixel density of the retina display or requiring a new image resolution for graphics. I can't see Apple going down either of these routes right now.

Bogus report.
