While the iPad will hold its value for resale, it is a completely different story from the iPhone. The iPhone was subsidized and therefore resale value was expected to be more since the resale didn't involve any contract.

And you only sold ONE of your iPhones for more than you paid ? I assume most people have sold EVERY iPhone for more than they paid for this very reason.

The iPad was not subsidized, so why would anyone choose to purchase an old USED one when they can get a new one, with better specs, and probably cheaper than what you paid...

I was counting the contract and what I paid for the phone, I thought that was a given, I never said you would be able to sell the iPad for more but that you would be able to sell it to buy a new one meaning it would not be obsolete.

Hey, they said Novemeber, so it's still in the range!

For those that watch the number of pizza deliveries to the Loop in Cupertino for the past two weeks, this makes sense. Yes, there are one or two "Apple watchers" that actually have some spots along De Anza Blvd. watching the flow of food catering (epically pizza) into that place.

Don't know how accurate that is since there is a full professional kitchen in the loop that makes pizza all the time. But then, a professional does tire of the cafeteria food when on deadline.

Precisely, it's only a date. Besides it's time to celebrate! And why?

Because as soon as the new release comes your iPad is instantly going to be known as an OPad.

Yes boys and girls you read it right, OPad.

You know.. ObsoletePad, the one you bought and expected to enjoy for awhile? There's a new version and it's time to celebrate!

After all you wouldn't want your Poor... Old... Uncle Steve, to go without more money would you? No, I didn't think you would. So it's simply time to give Uncle Steve more of your hard earned money. Cha Ching, you're owned.

Welcome to the real world, buddy!!! You buy a product and then a few months later there's a better version out. It's called innovation and marketing! You know like every company that wants to survive on the market does!
There probably wont be a new iPad until April ormso of next year which will put it about a year from the release of the original iPad, same as the iPhone updates.
Will this iPad be any less an iPad after the new one comes out? No!
Will it stop working like it was before the new one was release? No!

So stop whining and just be satisfied with what you have and enjoy the heck out of it! Or just don't buy it in the first place ;)

I've been following posts from people who took the golden master when it was originally released and immediately noticed the WiFi issues within minutes of installing it.

I continue to be surprised at how poor Apple's quality control is. I don't expect software to be perfect, but I would love to know how some of these obvious and critical issues make it into a golden master.

Your post makes no sense.

Apple have NEVER released a golden master of this software to the public, it is still in a testing phase with authorised apple developers.

Apple haven't released the software because testers are still reporting issues.

To repeat - this software has not been released.

So that proves Apple's quality control does work. If you don't understand how "obvious and critical issues" arise during a testing process - particularly towards the end - then you don't understand software development.

Troll.

There - plain and simple.

The rev 2 iPad will be in the hands of the public no less than 12 months after the original. The 4.2 software is a free update which will make the rev.a product even better.

You've never bought a consumer electronics product and had a new version come out a year later? I find that very hard to believe.

There is nothing to complain about here - move along.

Troll.

This latest build 4.2GM(B) has been working great for me! No problems for me. It has fixed the only real problem i was having, Wifi hanging, with 4.2GM(A) I love 4.2 :) makes the iPad a whole lot better :)

Not exactly arbitrary. It's how many fit visually.

If that is Apple's "standard" then it is not adhering to it. Visually a screen full of apps could in a folder. Now, if by "visually," you mean "can been seen in the folder w/o opening" that doesn't hold true either as you can only see 9 icons on the "outside" of the folder. Inside will hold 12, so a full folder will have 3 icons you can't see unless you open the folder.

So, it seems to mean Apple is being arbitrary. Also Apple could allow the icons to scale down as more icons were put in a folder, similar to the OS X dock. Let the user decide how many is too many, how small of an icon is too small.

Hmm. All MY iPhones quit working 15 minutes after the warranty expires, only after a new model is released. Or so my wife believes, anyway.

You don't understand the reasoning or technical background to Apple's decision, therefore it is "arbitrary"?

What figure would you pluck out of the air as a limit, and in what way would this not be "arbitrary"? What Apple "standard" are you referring to? These figures obviously can't be unlimited for storage and performance reasons - so give us the figure you would see and explain why this is anything other than a random figure you like the look of...

1) If you are going to respond to a post at least go back are read the entire convos rather than asking me what they h* I'm talking about.

2) My point -- and others (if you had read the entire convo) -- is that the number of apps you can put in a folder is arbitrary, i.e., there doesn't seem to be a technical or user related reason for the restriction.

An iPhone folder holds 12 apps and an iPad folder holds 20 yet an iPhone 4 has 2x more RAM than an iPad and an iPhone 3GS has exactly the same amount of RAM. So there can't be any technical reason why the iPhone holds less than the iPad. (I won't get into folder storage of jailbroken phones)

If you tap on a full iPhone folder it reveals 12 apps. Physically there is space for another 4 at the top. And, if, as I suggested in my earlier post, Apple allowed the icons to scale like they do in the OS X dock a user could fit even more if he/she was OK with smaller icons.

Frankly I don't get the anger of your post. Giving users the ability to put more apps in a folder is a good thing.

Having used Infinifolders, (like everyone else who doesn't waste time arguing and just jailbreaks to get the feaures we should have), I can easily state that there is no limit to how many apps a folder can hold.

There is absolutely NO performance degradation from adding unlimited apps to a folder.

Try different wifi networks.

The wifi bug is still present in 4.2 GMb.

I ready the entire conversation. I'm not angry, just a little confused - you claim something to be 'arbitrary', but don't suggest what you feel it should be - care to answer any of the questions I raised - and to repeat - not angry.

I'm pretty sure that Apple would give everything possible that they can without other compromises in the functionality of their software. You're suggesting they're holding back with some ulterior motive - they WANT you to buy as many apps as possible, not the oppposite.

Also, who else has noticed that suddenly the iPad does not cache web pages in memory?

Loading up google then a new page, and returning to google, results in a refresh. This hasn't been the case for only two pages before.

And there we have it" "Get the features we should have". You buy a device knowing it's limitations and the functionality outlined by the manufacturer.

You're not "entitled" to anything over and above this. To criticise a manufacturer for 'only' doing what they say they will do seems a little odd to me... Apple design the product, the software and market their product.

If they make a decision because they feel it is in the best interests of their device and their customers, then that's Apple's right as producer of the device/service. If you want a device that does something else, buy a different device.

Simple as that.

Buying Apps has precisely ZERO to do with how folders is presented as a feature.

Folders, the feature, has been compromised for performance benefits elsewhere. Why is a mystery, as jailbreakng has proven there is no good reason for this. Scrollable folders are possible and work really well.

Not happening here..? Cache as normal.

You are wrong. Simple as that.

Apple makes the good device, hackers make it more.

NO, but the implication here is that Apple provide arbitrary limits to control usage for some ulterior reason. Apple will do everything possible to give as much access to as many apps as possible. If they haven't, then there is a reason. Simple as that. Don't declare something "arbitrary" because you don't understand the reasoning.
