Guys, I have been thinking about these defective chips. Even though apple doesn't use those ports, I think it will be too much of a pr issue to say to the market "yes we used the defective chips" and for apple to go through the whole life cycle with that on their shoulders. Also remembering that the average apple consumer is not the most technically minded, it could be easy for other manuf to steal away customers new to the apple brand. If I was apple, I'd wait for other manuf to release and fend off the "but these are defective chips questions". Once they released and the market forgets, you go ahead with your launch.
The other thing, their is consensus by most of the mainstream media that a refresh is likely within the next 6-8 weeks. I would imagine the research division at apple is very well aware that when the media all agree that it's coming soon, their sales of the old model literally hit the ground. So why not cut the stock, let the anticipation grow and get this huge flood of sales when you release.? Especially if you expect to not sell much in the coming weeks
