Nobody knows. Maybe the 15 & 17s will be updated with quads now and the 13" will get an i5, or maybe all of them will be updated with SB late Feb/March.

Will the 13" MacBook Pro get sandy bridge processors or is it just with the 15" and 17"?

If I had to hedge a bet for real money, I'd say no because the Intel IGP, while being better than what Intel ordinarily does, won't meet Apple's own requirements for what they want.

I wouldn't bank on it.

Ah, well, there you have it, I guess.

I could always edit it to say they got them early :)

Oh Wikipedia, you and your shenanigans...

Man I really hope it does our I will be severely disappointed as I can't afford the larger machines. :(

the 13" non Air machine(s) will catch up when Ivy Bridge comes out. Probably not this refresh though. Why not buy a 15" refurb? It's cheaper, comes with the same warranty and AppleCare elligability, and with a whole lot more quality control on it. I'd look into it, it's a good deal.

My dream (high end 15"):
- Intel Sandybridge i7 quad
- Nvidia GTX460m 1.2GB vRAM
- 6/8GB RAM
- 640GB HDD
- 60/80/120GB Flash SSD (the same as in the new Air)
- 7-9 hours battery
- Even better speakers
- Brighter backlit
- Better superdrive
- Better cooling system
- possibility for full HD res
- IPS!!!!!
- 1999$

My guess:
- Intel Core i5 Sandy Bridge 2.3 Ghz
- AMD 4870m 256MB vRAM
- 4GB RAM
- 230GB HDD 5400RPM
- 15 hours of batterylife
- No backlit
- 2399$

We will probably see both i5 and i7 duals as standard configs on both the 15" and 17" models, with quad-core as a build-to-order option. Apple will be completely replacing HDD with Blade SSD and possibly completely doing away with the optical drive. Battery life will be much improved, up to 12 hours, instant-on for 30 day sleep like the MacBook Air. High resolution displays will now be standard on all models and the 13" MacBook Pro will have a 1440x900 display. The 13" model will be available as an i3 with an i5 BTO option. Quad-Core will only be available on the 15" and 17" models as a BTO option.

wait, so you're saying the new line of 13" will still have c2d????:eek:
speechless!
I had a question. Will there be an i3 sandy bridge processor? Cuz if there is, that's what the 13" will get.

Gosh--that would be a whole year from now for Ivy Bridge. It seems that Ivy Bridge won't be released until CES 2012. That's a really long time to continue to ship Core Duo 2 13" systems.

No, and for the same reason. Or did you not read my comment?

The Mac mini, white MacBook, and MacBook Air customers all could care less. It's only the 13" Pro customers that'd have any real beef with that kind of a wait.

Apple will be discontinuing Core2Duo with the new MacBook Pro lineup, Sandy Bridge will be across the whole product offering. Core2Duo is already at EOL and intel is not producing any more of them, they are just using up the stock they have left.

That's why I said, the 13" model will have i3 standard, with i5 at a BTO option, most likely, all Sandy Bridge processors. The 15" and 17" will feature i5, i7, and Quad-Core i7 (available as a Built-to-order option).

Apple reserves the top-processor offering traditionally as a Build-to-order option, such as the 2.93GHz iMac, the 2.93GHz 12-core Mac Pro, the 3.33Ghz 6-core Mac Pro, the 2.8GHz i7 MacBook Pro...and so on. They have done this for a few years now.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see an i5 offering on the 13" models, as the top-end spec model offered. The only concern about putting an i7 in there would be heat, you would need a larger heatsink to dissipate the heat from an i7 or a quad-core i7, they get really, really hot.

The 13" isn't getting refreshed, at least not at the same time as the 15" and 17". Note every single source saying that the 15" and 17" models are running low on stock while the 13" isn't. Just sayin'.

A friend of mine who works at JB Hifi suggests that although they are still getting some MBPs, they aren't getting nearly enough. He didn't make any distinction between the 13" and the rest though. Although, the store has had this problem since Christmas.

My Microcenter does not even list the 17in, so they are out of it or they never had any.

The also have 1-3 of everything else in stock except the 13in 2.4GHz MBP they have 20+ of that.

So its looking like it might just be a 15-17in update. I hope not though I really want a new 13in MB or MBP.

I've heard rumours that Apple will be releasing PowerBook G5's next Tuesday. If so, do you think I should get one, or wait for the Sandy Bridge MBPs?

It's a rad computer, but I doubt its inclusion in the forthcoming update party.

Win.
