Kind of makes you wonder..... What's everyone going to have to talk about when they finally do refresh them? Oh that's right. 2 months of bitching about what was/wasn't done followed by 8 months of speculation on the 2012 Mbp.

Protip :)

Not for all of the college kids who buy it anyway for superficial differences between it and the White MacBook.

there are HUGE (!) differences.
not with the specs but, the pro model has an aluminium chassis. which is way better than the plastic of the mb.

Specs too (FW and RAM).

Aluminum and backlit keyboard are obviously "superficial", but nevertheless important for a high-end computer.

Gosh--that would be a whole year from now for Ivy Bridge. It seems that Ivy Bridge won't be released until CES 2012. That's a really long time to continue to ship Core Duo 2 13" systems.

Crunchy technical tidbits: http://softengcrunch.blogspot.com/

Ivy Bridge won't be that special. The IGP will only have 16 EUs which is only 4 more than the current ones. First rumors said 24 EUs which would have been great as most likely it would have been at least twice as fast as the current one. 16 EUs, however, means that it will most likely be less than twice as fast.

Sure, the Intel IGP gets better all the time but so do other GPUs. I would be extremely surprised to see Intel IGP beating some decent discrete GPUs. I'm pretty sure the gap between Intel IGP and discrete GPUs will remain the same.

C2D isn't a plausible option as Intel will stop shipping them in October, meaning that Apple could not sell MBPs with C2D for couple of months.

The 13" isn't getting refreshed, at least not at the same time as the 15" and 17". Note every single source saying that the 15" and 17" models are running low on stock while the 13" isn't. Just sayin'.

Not a reliable indicator. Besides, what would waiting help? There isn't any new CPUs coming anytime soon

Some delays start to appear on Apple's online store:

Switzerland - '15": 2.53GHz': '3 - 7 Geschäftstage'
Hong Kong - '17-inch: 2.53GHz': '5-7 business days'

Case Design

I've seen a lot of discussion around internal specs but what's the feeling for the case design? I'm hoping it'll get a revamp, if it doesn't I'd be slightly concerned that it will later this year and my new macbook pro will instantly look old :(

I hope the update happens sooner rather than later. The sooner the refresh, the more likely it is they get quad-core. If inventories hold out for three more weeks, they'll probably get dual-cores. I'm not ready to buy right now, but I'll be happy for those who are if Apple gives us a major update.

Not that I'm expecting quads or a good GPU with 1GB VRAM, but it's a nice dream.

This talk of just the 15 and 17s being updated is ridiculous surely? They 13" is wayy overdue an update.

Plus it's not just the 15" and 17" running low, a lot of the online stores i've checked are also out of stock of the 13"...

the only thing the mbp has more than tghe white is the FW and the backlit keyboard.
The white is 100$ cheaper than the mbp if u put 4gb ram, and also has a better wifi signal thanks to the plastic.
and btw, the plastic is sturdier than the alumninium, the aluminium bends very easily.

That's good news. I have been hoping to hear from someone who has noticed stock issues with the 13".

You left out one thing: The Pro has a much nicer display.

By the way, I have owned many an aluminum Mac and I have yet to bend one.

I'll be more confident in an imminent refresh when Apple's own shipping estimates start to slip.

Assuming they do, of course.

Some apple stores are already starting to have stock shortages ;) Read first page of this thread.

If there are other vendors shipping laptops with Sandy Bridge dual cores, prior to the 2/20 official release date, wouldn't it be reasonable to guess that Apple could start shipping new MBPs 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, or 2/22?

We're about on track for a refresh. Supplies are short.

Oh man I can't wait to immediately order the new MBP when it's here. I've never been an early adopter (of any new product before) so that will be great.

If it's a redesign, I'll probably wait a bit (couple weeks at most), just so I know exactly what I'm dealing with as I plan an aftermarket SSD & ram upgrade at purchase time. If it's a simple refresh, I'll order it the first day, along with SSD, optibay, and RAM.
