I still like the look of my 3G. But I am sure as soon as I walk into an Apple Store and see that thing after WWDC, I will need to have it. :D

The current iPhone 3G looks great. The glossy finish is nice to look at. Just don't touch it!

I'm neutral on this one. I like them both equally. My glossy iPhone 3G doesn't have any visible scratches or cracks, looks about as good as it did the day I got it; the chrome bezel on the other hand is scratched to hell.

Both matte and glossy look much better than the original 2/3rd's metal 1/3rd plastic of the original.

my 3g doesn't look scratched on the back either but is too slippery, just yesterday it felt from my hands on the street and it looks horrible now.

iPhone looking Cheaper and Cheaper

Am I the only one who's noticing this? The first generation iPhone was made from metal, the second one from hard plastic, and now we have a cheaper looking material for the upcoming model. Bring back the metal...it actually looked like a respectable device...

I agree with you 200%, the new phone does look cheeper and I would love for them to back to the simple clean lines of metal.

The only thing that it's missing now to convince me to buy one is a TWO-YEAR CONTRACT from Rogers...

Yeah right...wishful thinking!! I wish Rogers will offer 2 yr contracts too but it's not gonna happen!

As long as they keep the same shape so I can still use my cases and accessories, I do not mind the matte back. However, I would like to see what this back looks like in white and any other colors they may offer.

Matte finish

About 6 months ago I interviewed with Apple and when asked what the worst design decision was the Apple made, I mentioned the redesign from first gen to second gen iPhone. I can grip the sides of the original iPhone and can slap egrips onto the edges to make it even easier. However, the second gen iPhone is shaped like a used bar of soap, has no edge to grip, and hence no place for egrips. I returned mine for a refund after I dropped it a dozen times when I got it home from the at&t store.

I told them that they either need to put an edge back onto it or use that rubbery grippy material that Blackberry has on some of their phones. Perhaps the matte finish is that material?

Matte is ugly, shiny is decent and aluminum is ok. Just make a phone that works to the best of its ability, I don't care what the back looks like. It will sell regardless.

Matte is def FTW...i'm so getting an upgrade if that's what this 3rd gen will look like.

Cheers.

So if they came out with a glossy one you would refuse to buy it and go kick rocks?

Same here, I'd prefer glossy but either would be fine. I don't understand why everyone gets so worked up about these kinds of things. And like you said, either will sell just fine.
