Not a fan of the matte black at all. It cheapens the look of the phone badly. If I want my phone to look like a Fisher Price toy - I will buy one at Toys R Us. I don't spend $300 bux to have my phone look like a POS. I have a SHINY 3G phone with NO scratches. I had no case for mine for about 3 months. No issues at all. I have it in a case now.
Let me share with you what MATTE BLACK/Rubberized plastic looks like after a while, this is 5 months of use. I don't care who does the matte/rubberized plastic (Apple included), it will always look like this after a while.

What if they do this:
8GB Glossy-only Black ($199)
16GB Glossy or Matte Black ($299)
32GB Matte-only Black ($399)
64GB Gold-plated ($999)
Every Apple product delivered in the last five years has had some sort of sheen or gloss to it.
how is this "mind blowing"?
Matte all the way. That gossy trash surface would probably scratch so easily.
Ya glossy might look cool for the first week but after it is scratched it will be very unattractive.
It almost looks like it has a rubber coating...? Maybe to prevent you from dropping it?
When you look at the back of the 3G the only thing you see is the apple, nice and clean. On the matt one there's too much lettering at the bottom.
That MATTE finish is GANGSTA!!!! I want the new IPhone NOW!!!![]()
Maybe it's not rubberized. Maybe it's just textured. Anyone think about this?
Maybe it's anodized black Aluminum!
C.
Maybe not.

"Gangsta" indeed.
