I'm not insulting, spamming or harassing anyone. If telling you that you are full of it , hurts your feelings, then that is a personal problem I can not attend to.

But you are going off-topic now.

Anyway. I think this will look better in real life. But it seems like it may certainly lose the "bling" factor. Maybe that's not a bad thing. But the 1st generation was instantly recognizable, and was not just another black smartphone.

Either way... I want it.

the Black MacBook is back!

these mockups look great. i hope Apple goes with this. so we have unibody aluminum (1st gen) to glossy black and white (iPhone 3G) to matte black (3rd gen?)

it looks like the polycarbonate blend of the Black MacBook! in my opinion the Black MacBook was short lived and a luxury item. bringing it back would give a nod to the product cycle i say!

Only problem I see with this is that matte plastic finishes always get worn down from friction and the oils in your skin. Eventually they become blotchy... matte corners with the most used center area worn down to a glossy finish.

If they can ever figure out how to maintain a plastic matte finish that would be great... but I'm not holding my breath.

the matte looks good from the photos, but to me it looks sorta like its rubberized coating if anyone gets me. I prefer apple products what are glossy and shinny. I'll put the back of my current white 16GB iPhone on the new generation, when I get it that is lol

Maybe they'll come out with a matte white finish too?

wow.. everyone jumping on the matte back. It's just because its new that everyone likes the newer product. Lettme ask you guys this, how many people that own iPhones have a case? I would say probably 90 percent. First you probably won't see the difference, and second the gloss gives it a unique look. Do you want your phone to look like the Sony Ericsson? Or Nokia's? I don't think so. This is just a rumor and all you guys jumping on the bandwagon.

I have a iPhone me and the people i know who have them just use the iPod socks they work really well :D, I don't really see the point in buying a shinny perfectly designed apple product if all your gonna do is cover it up lol

When will they learn shiny glossy stuff on the cell phone is a bad idea. Glossy case only looks good without smurgies. it's pretty damn useless on a cell phone.

I agree.

It doesn't matter which backing it is, IMO, b/c I'll be putting a case on it. The only time I see my backing is when I clean it.

yea thats wut i said. but oh well. they like cases on it. and wuts the point if they just put a case over it?

No rubber, please. I've had numerous rubber coated items in the past, some very pricey, and they all became sticky due to rubber decay.

Carbon Fiber is what I want.

What if they do this:

8GB Glossy-only Black ($199)
16GB Glossy or Matte Black ($299)
32GB Matte-only Black ($399)
64GB Gold-plated ($999)

EXACTLY! We need an aluminum iPhone again!

any chance that this could be a anodised aluminium finish?

Could we see lots of colours on the new iphone?

I'd be all over it if this were indeed the case

Good point. Although I didn't notice this effect on my black Macbook's outer casing but I know what you mean. Hmmm... not sure if I'm sold on the matte look or not.

Yes It Does

i was going to say the same thing .. shorter and thinner. Though thinner, maybe not. The photo looks to be a comparison of the Matte backing laid next to a full-up 3G, the bezel and glass adding to the total thickness. The camera hole is empty on the Matte and filled on the 3G backing.

I hope the matte is actually a grippy surface. Not necessarily rubberized, i think that would tend to pick up gunk.

my 1st-gen iPhone is about to get upgraded. The Home button action is spotty , not very responsive.

The matte iPhone's camera hole is filled if you look carefully. The phone looks sick and it seems i bit shorter, and way thinner. Nice going Apple!!! When are the line threads starting lol? I will be first in line at my store. Also everyone should check out a 15 year olds work - http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=311721181&mt=8

THanks.

Not all that excited about the matte. The glossy back might get fingerprints, but they wipe away easily. I keep my otherwise unprotected 3G in an Incipio Orion slip case, and the black plastic is as unmarked as the day I got it. There are, however, a couple scratches visible across the Apple logo.
I'm much more interested in the relocation of the speaker, leaving room for a larger screen or, better yet, a front camera.

anodized black aluminum macbook.... that might be dreamy.

Every Apple product delivered in the last five years has had some sort of sheen or gloss to it. Moving to a matte finish would be a major departure from the entire design philosophy they have worked with in the past. For those complaning about the smudges and fingerprints on the back of the current 3G iPhone...you should have bought white.

What about the Black Macbooks?

Not a fan of the matte black at all. It cheapens the look of the phone badly. If I want my phone to look like a Fisher Price toy - I will buy one at Toys R Us. I don't spend $300 bux to have my phone look like a POS. I have a SHINY 3G phone with NO scratches. I had no case for mine for about 3 months. No issues at all. I have it in a case now.

Let me share with you what MATTE BLACK/Rubberized plastic looks like after a while, this is 5 months of use. I don't care who does the matte/rubberized plastic (Apple included), it will always look like this after a while.
