I'm not buying unless it comes with a diamond bezel. :)

Actually, just seeing that last mock up, I began wondering if it would be possible to design a centre piece that could slip into third party bracelets, allowing you to have your diamond bezel, and me to have my rolex oyster datejust bracelet around it. I doubt it would be that easy to design, though.

That made me pause for a moment and think about whether I want to talk to my watch, and how society might look with others around me speaking into theirs, too.

.

I, for one, never saw Dick Tracy talking into his wrist as looking cool. Even when I was a kid.

The iWatch better have replaceable batteries!

My Citizen Ecodrive watch has a micro solar panel underneeth the semitransparent face. So yes it is possible. The power and usability are still far from perfect though.

A regular battery has to be replaced every 3 years. My rechargable li-Ion battery still has to be replaced every 6 years due to its unability to hold its charge for a whole day beeing that old.

I love the design. One of the things keeping Smartwatches from taking off is that they look like old geek calculator watches of the 90's. Most people buy expensive watches mainly for their looks. After all a watch is functional jewelry.

Argentine design student Tomas Moyano needs to focus more on his English classes...

I'm confident that his English is better than your Spanish.
And what does that have to do with a very nice mock-up?

@GQB:

Do you know anything about watches? Bell & Ross makes some very nice mid-range ($5-10K) watches that are square. There are plenty of self-respecting people who desire beautiful, fine timepieces that are square.

To me it IS important that the watch is beautiful. A men's watch should cast a shadow. All my watches do. If I like it I will get one. I think on the watch to have just one generic design is kind of difficult. So many people so many tastes. It's different from the phone.

Lots of curmudgeons in here. I love the Balogh concept, but I'm also ready to see something totally unexpected when Apple unveils there's.

That's the problem with these slick mockups via software. It's easy to design something good looking when you don't have to think about the actual engineering to bring it to market.

Quoted for truth. Designing without limitations is easy and adds very little to the discussion around these products... Making fantasy mockups is totally different than designing for engineering. This has more to do as a marketing exercise than a study of industrial design.

How about always on sensors that detects the flip of the wrist and turns it on instantly? Could be powered by really low voltage dedicated coprocessor.

Pebble essentially does that. flick the wrist and the backlight turns on.

like Fan Fiction :)

Really beautiful concept. I definitely think that, whatever Apple do, they should keep it classy and smart. Something far away from tacky products from the likes of Samsung.

I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks, is was not easy to explain the project! :)

I liked the 'fuelband' concept better.

Stupid idea.

Just taking something that already exists without changing the core design but trying to fit in new technology to magically work together is wrong.
That’s the reason why taking Symbian phones in 2006 and slaping a touch screen on it, without adjusting the core system in a major way, didn’t work.

Especially the buttons on the side look pathetic. It’s just like the fake-leather calendar design of the former Mac App, with the bookmark symbol acting as a button that has completely different functionality than what it suggests.

I agree with the sentiment of your first paragraph, but did you miss that these are two different concepts, made by different designers?

lol, I think anyone with any self respect isn't vain enough to care about how they appear to others in public. :D

What "you" think isn't the point. If that's the case, why are there so many watch makers of all price ranges coming out with different designs? Obviously, it is to match the "taste" of many different people. Meaning, they do "care" of what they wear.

It's a matter of what the general mass as a whole cares. Some care, some don't. Some want shiny watches, some want rustic, geeky, slim, fat, bling,.. you name it. That's the problem with the iWatch being a "watch" in the conventional sense. Apple can't just be like any other watch maker with multiple designs.

me too. but here's what i think.

definitely this concept is much more apple like in design. i think the iWatch will be something of a new line of products much like apple's iPods.

the first iWatch will cover the essential functions that most of us want now in a wearable technology device. and i imagine it will be more inline with the nike fuel band - something focused on health and fitness as much as anything else.

later, much like the iPods - other design approaches will come along that cater to other types. theres much money to be made here if they cater to different audiences. some people will want a more stylish watch, some a more conventional circular design. etc. and they will have emphasis on different things. for example the other iwatches might have no fitness emphasis to it at all.

On the contrary, everyone should care how they present themselves in public, more specifically public spaces. I find it offensive to see people dress poorly more or less like they would if they were at home. This is disrespectful to everyone.

Keep this in mind, casual is not frump. Frump is sloppy. There is no way to reconcile this.

The joke is on you.
