Do I have to get the mac one or can I get a 3rd party version? If I can get a 3rd party can anyone make a recommendation?

The Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter

at Monoprice for less than $10.00

The Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter at Monoprice for less than $10.00

Would this then allow me to use a DVI - VGA adapter I have from my 2008 MBP?

My intention is to use the MDP to DVI with an external monitor, but often times I do presentations where VGA is the only way to go. This may save me from buying an extra adapter (MDP to VGA).

Just ordered two of these.

$200 each + tax + free shipping = $433
Estimated ship date is in September, but at least I've got an order in when they become available.

If you are looking to get one (or more) of these, contact:

On 7/15/09 I received the following note from Tiffany:

hey sorry, I'm not aware of your whereabouts

but can anyone confirm if this 'guy' is legit? I'm afraid it might one of those scams where they'll ask me for my info and then etc..

I am the one who posted that message. You are calling a Dell corporate number, so even if you don't know me, you're doing business directly with Dell. I am not involved in any way.

Dell not honoring orders..

Here are the last 2 replies concerning my order on July 1st with a promised ship date of August 13th.

[Dear Jerry,

This is Grace, one of the Resolutions Team from Dell assigned to take ownership of your issue.
Your issue has been assigned Service request# 801938241.

I would like to inform you regarding the status of your order for the monitor (order# 796782146). I was informed by our Order Processing Department that the Monitor you purchased –Dell 22inch 2209WA Flat Panel Monitor is already sold out for this quarter, and they highly recommend that it is best for you to purchase Professional P2210 22-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor with Dell part# 320-8103.

please respond to this email to update me if you want to cancel your original order.

Here is the next email after I told them I did not want the TN Monitor:

Hi Jerry,

They did not provide me information on when will it be available so they recommend that it is best for you to purchase Professional P2210 22-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor.

Please let me know if you want to cancel the order.

Thank you.

Gee... don't know why this company is doing so poorly.

On the Dell Uk site the shipping time is 1 -2 weeks so I guess they must have quite a lot here! Though there are $416... so maybe they're not selling here as the price is high.

I don't quite understand something. I want the screen to replace my laptop screen but when I connect it, it's just in addition to my laptop screen, like something I can drag over to. Anyone know how I can change this?

You have to close the laptop display and connect an external keyboard and mouse.

I don't have a monitor to try it out right now, but I believe in System Preferences > Displays you can check a box that indicates to mirror displays.

Press the power button to turn on your Mac, then immediately close the lid while the external display is connected. After the login screen or desktop appears on the external display, you should be able to open the lid without the Mac's display showing.

Hey, can anyone with one of these monitors check to see if there is a serial number or any type of identification on the back of their unit?

One of my monitors has a few dead pixels and I want to return it, but of course, both of my units have no identifying serial numbers whatsoever. The dell rep said she couldn't help me without a serial number, but graciously offered to help me buy a new monitor if I wanted.

Ha! I was absolutely furious. I was thinking, "what kind of business would screw things up twice (the pixels and the lack of a serial number) and then tell you you need to pay to have them fixed?" And then I quickly remembered that this is dell and they have perfected the art of customer disservice. Things are indeed normal as ever in the computer universe.

But anyways, is anyone else missing a serial number?

And as an aside, is anyone else noticing a foul odor emitting from the usb cable that came with the monitor? Mine has an incredibly toxic smell.

I just hope that the monitor's performance is worth all of this.

The serial number is on a slide-out card behind the side USB ports, as well as on the shipping box. Information about how to find the serial number is located in the User's Guide on the CD that came with the monitor, as well as on Dell's web site.

In case all of those were unavailable, I called Dell's tech support number (800-624-9896) to see if they could find it. The rep said it is normally on the back and asked me if I saw it there. I said no, and he put me on hold for about 2 minutes while he looked up the manual. After coming back he told me about the card.

The rep was courteous and helpful, which is consistent with my past dealings with Dell. At no point did the rep try to sell me a new monitor.

Ok, I've found it. Thanks!

This is a bit embarassing, but I've never seen this pull-out-card setup before. I guess that is why you should read all the documentation.

Anyways, I'm glad you had a better experience with your dell rep. My troubles came after being rerouted through the calling system, having a surly guy tell me he couldn't help me, and then finally ending up with the woman who wanted to sell me a new monitor. It was very frustrating.

Thanks again!

Sooooo does anyone know why this monitor appears on all the Dell international sites but isn't available in the US?

Looks like I'm going to have to go for the SP2309 unless this WA model somehow becomes available. I see the S2209W but not the WA.
