What kind of coupons or discounts are you finding lately? The web site Shows it at $219.

Nothing lately, but they seem to come in cycles. Right now, most discounts I am finding are for complete systems or accessories such as external hard drives. I bought mine about a month ago, and I found some coupons on the monitors then. If you can hold off a bit on buying the monitor, a coupon code should come up soon. If not, $219 is still a good price. I paid about $230 for mine. I think the list price for it when I was looking was $279, but I got the $50 instant savings, and a 15% coupon code on top of that. Even at $219, this is still a good deal.

I'm connecting the 2209 to my Macbook but when my MB display goes to sleep, the Dell monitor doesn't go into power saving mode. It just thinks there's nothing plugged in and has a "no VGA cable" message bouncing around forever. Does this happen with all Macs or is it because I'm using a VGA and not DVI cable?

Hi Sorry, to ask again. Just wondering if people using this with a DVI cable experience the same issue as me. :)

I almost purchased the same screen from Dell a few months back but after hours of research I ended up postponing my purchase of a monitor at that point. Sad really..

Mines connected using DVI, sleep the Mac and it goes into power saving mode, Have you actually manually selected connection type in the monitor settings or left it at Auto? :) just a thought.

This happened when I ordered my 2209. It kept saying 3 weeks to ship, then after about 1 week, it changed to shipped. I wasn't going to complain. :).

Duff-Man says...indeed my order changed to "shipped" this evening too - seems 3-5 weeks means 3-5 days. Good timing for me too as the Mac Pro is scheduled for delivery on Monday next week...oh yeah!

usb problem... still

hello again
well the usb problem has still been niggling intermittently and now this time no amount unplugging and replugging etc seems to be getting them working this time so i'm thinking that it is a fault with the monitor.... and will have to be returned to dell (seemingly endless hours of disconnecting and repacking loom....blah!)....unless since my last post anyone else has had this problem with 2209wa and has any suggestions???

by the way i'm using it with a macbook pro with dvi connection... if thats of any help...
thank you!

Hey thanks, I'll grab a DVI adapter then. I was using a VGA and the monitor wouldn't go into that mode.

I am really tempted to buy one of these to use when I get my 17" MBP in June as this seems like a great buy in the last few months. Has anyone calibrated one of these yet and also printed from their profile = WYSIWYG from your printers? Good luck to all that bought one or two of these :D

Duff-Man says...for those interested there are some more of these in Dell's refurb shop today - may not last too long - last bunch got snapped up fairly quickly....oh yeah!

Just ordered two of these to replace my 24" ACD LED. I love my 24", but I really like having two monitors. For the price these can't be beat.

My goal is to eventually hook these up to a new Mac Mini - but for now, I'm going to have to settle and use my Dell XPS 210 PC.

Can't wait, these are now shipping with-in 24 hours. I ordered them on Thursday and they're already on their way. :D

What did you eventually use for Brightness, Contrast, and Sharpness?

I settled on
Brightness 3
Contrast 73
Sharpness 40

Edit:
After Calibrating with Spyder2 PRO used these RGB settings
R 100
G 97
B 99

At least the White at these settings doesn't burn your retina.

I'm curious as to why you have the Brightness set at '3'? I got my unit today, and I've been playing with the settings. It does seem too bright at factory (it does hurt the eyes somewhat), but '3' seems a bit low. Then again, I need to check it out more.

According to many of the group at HardForum even Brightness "3" is too much and they are using "0".

Brightness for LCD regulates the intensity of the backlight unlike a CRT where the Brightness control regulates "black level".

PRAD used a Brightness of "9" in their excellent review.

The "Ambient" light in the room is an important factor as well.

Remember YMMV :D

Thanks for the info - and the links - much appreciated! :)

The main reason I questioned the low brightness setting is that this is the first LCD monitor where I had to notch it down so low so my eyes wouldn't hurt! I've got a few Acer monitors, just for gaming, and they are set rather high to get a good screen. Same with my Apple 20".

I've played a bit with the new Dell, and did note that a brightness of 3-10 matched the Apple monitor. I like the Apple settings, and want it to match as closely as possible.

Again, thanks for the information! :apple:

I received my (2) monitors yesterday. So far I'm quite impressed. The picture is amazing. There is the slightest difference between the brightness of the two monitors. I will need to play with them a little more tonight.

But so far I'm liking them.

PS: The look better in person.

I recently got my 2209WA... awesome monitor. Puts my 13 inch whitebook to shame. I'll never buy another laptop again that doesn't have an OLED screen.

But the default colour profiles in OS X are rubbish! I used "SuperCal" to visually calibrate the monitor. I'm not a graphic artist or anything, not doing anything colour critical, but I still love a nice display. Using my SuperCal colour profile, the display looks virtually identical to when using a different hardware-calibrated 2209WA profile I downloaded off the internet.

But, every screen and computer is slightly different, especially if you're using VGA. So I'd definitely recommend calibrating it yourself rather than relying on something you got from the internet. The default colour settings are useless, far too washed out, so it definitely does need calibration.

By the way my settings are brightness 29, contrast 74, and colours all at 100%... I then just used SuperCal to get the luminance curves correct and generate an sRGB colour profile.

I've attached the profile for your convenience... but I wouldn't recommend using it with a DVI connection as the colours might be way off.

I received mine yesterday after giving up on a better monitor which still showed no sign of actually coming out in favour of one that existed. Really happy with it so far though it took a while to get the settings right. I'm using brightness of 0 and contrast of 74. I had to run Apple's calibration twice as the first time I had been less aggressive with the contrast. Finally the white is subdued enough not to burn my retinas (I'm not an artist and use it in a relatively dark room so my eyes were being completely overloaded) and despite being almost as dark as possible without completely destroying colours it still looks fantastic next to my old 17" Studio Display.

I find most modern displays really overdo the brightness at least for my computing environment (it doesn't help that I'm photosensitive). I use a Samsung 220 at work and that one had to go down to 0 brightness as well before I found it usable. Maybe I'll get used to them over time.

What kind of prices are you guys finding lately?
Any coupons?

I was offered it for $240 after tax/shipping from Dell.
I ended up buying it for $220 on eBay and i'll get $18 back through Live Cashback.

So $200 brand new.
Arrives Tuesday. :D

I recently picked up two at $206 each (free shipping, plus tax).

Go onto slickdeals.net and watch for coupons.

There are deals out there - but they come and go.

Sorry, one other thing that works well.

In Google, click on advanced search and search for 2209wa coupons in the last 24 hours.

Cheers.

I'm glad people are enjoying the monitor. I've been using it since the first week it was available and have had no regrets. I have a 20" ACD connected to my MBP and the 2209WA connected to my PC.

Its been outstanding for gaming. I cannot express how much better it makes games look. I've now tested this monitor with all types of games and have not noticed any lag or ghosting.

Dvd

I'm using this monitor with a new Mac Mini. Wondering if there's any way to watch DVD without bars at top and bottom? Like using zoom function on LCD TV?

Just picked one up a few weeks ago to replace the cheap 19" ViewSonic I was using as my secondary display. So far the 2209WA is very nice; doesn't hold a candle to the 20WMGX2 next to it but for the price it can't be beat.

I'm trying to get hold of the 2209WA, but its out of stock everywhere. I'm in the UK and ebuyer no longer have any stock, neither do Overclockers, Amazon, etc. Dell's own website states its shipping within 3 weeks. Has this model been discontinued or are they just awaiting for a new batch?

Also can anyone explain why this monitor is around £200 on eBuyer etc but its £300 buying it directly from Dell.
