Is it just me, or did others have to read the title several times to work out which phones it is talking about? 7 plus / 7 / 7 s plus whatever etc... What a messy, confusing lineup in terms of how they are named / numbered. A mess!

How is it a mess or confusing? It's the same as it's always been up to now. iPhone SE, iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, whatever new phone is called... doubt it will be the 8. If it's the 8 it might as well be the X for 10th anniversary. I think it will have some slick name to separate it from the "traditional" iPhone naming convention.

I like Grubers comment:

"These phones are sporting entire new designs. If these [claims] are legit, there’s no way Apple is going to call these devices “7S”. I suspect Apple will use one of these sets of names:
  • iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 8 Pro; or
  • iPhone, iPhone Plus, iPhone Pro
Either of these naming schemes would make all three new iPhones sound new."

If these are true, then who will buy 7s and 7s Plus?
They pretty much look identical to 7 and 7 Plus..
Well all S models have looked identical to predecessors.... Also if the 7s and 7s+ are $650 and $750, but then the "8" starts at $1250.... That's nearly double the 7s starting price.

However, I agree that with the new model of leasing phones on the upgrade plan, the monthly price difference will likely be much easier to swallow.

Well for one, we really have no idea yet what they will be named. I imagine iPhone, iPhone Plus, and iPhone Pro. But we’ll see. Besides that, really not that hard to understand. 3 phones, 3 names. It’s really that hard for you? Maybe skip this one out then.

Personally they should have went for a camera design change, that bump looks even worse when turned the other way, assuming that's how it will be officially.

The camera is the camera. Until that tech catches up with everything else it's going to bump out. The alternative is a thicker phone just to accommodate the camera -- not happening -- or a worse camera -- also not happening.

I'm not a fan of the bump but I'm use to it and it's worth it given the quality if iPhone 7 photos. Next gen will bump up even more. You put a case on and you really don't even realize the bump exists. Not a big deal at all. Worth the trade off 100%.

I think the white iPhone would look better if the notch part were black. Then the black part would still blend in with the OLED and it would look just like other iPhones with a (smaller) white bezel around the screen.
iOS could automatically make the top notification bar white on white models. Would look pretty cool actually.

*strokes iPhone SE* Yeah, you're not going anywhere anytime soon Essy, don't worry.
Agreed, Rosso, agreed. It's the choice for people with normal-length thumbs. My 6 is approaching EOL and the only reason I'm waiting is that the SE will probably (hopefully) get a spec bump and, perhaps, maybe even a processor bump on 8 release day.

Yes, I kind of knew I would get that response as soon as I wrote it. Yes, there is an underlying logic. But it is clumsy to have two versions of any given number (i.e. 7 and 7s) and then two versions of each of those (i.e. plus and normal). Then in addition to that need a new number / name with the "8" or whatever at the same release point. It is not at all elegant. I suspect others will feel the same, and I imagine there are those at Apple who probably regret the way their nomenclature has evolved into this. You either see it, or you don't. I do. Just saying...

These dummies are ugly. I hope they are nothing more than case moulds or Chinese knock offs. Also the stainless steel band looks awful. Make a stainless steel that doesn't incur fingerprints and I'm there.

All the iPhone 8 front facia must be black regardless the color of the back, otherwise it will look hideous assuming the dummies are accurately depicting the final product design.

iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus and iPhone Edition. What's so hard to understand?

It's just you I think, it's not confusing.

Agreed. Plus throw in everyone's hard on for this supposed "anniversary" edition... when has Apple successfully marketed anything as the 5, 10, 15 year anniversary of a device. No one cars about that, it sounds cheesy.

They'll become the mid-tier range. Late adopters, people on a budget, parents buying for kids. Plenty of markets for them, businesses that supply employees phones. Not everyone needs or wants the latest and greatest. Those of us here are not market indicators.

But the same categoris of people could also go for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus which will become cheaper still. So it all depends whether the new features of 7Ss will be good enough to pay an extra 100 or so. Promotion (a higher screen refresh rate) would be a handy addition, cannot think of anything else I miss at the moment.
