I amended my post after thinking about it

iPhone X should be the new name for all 3 handsets, in standard, Plus and Edition (bezel-less). X for 10 year anniversary. All three with glass backs and wireless charging. Edition with no bezels and 3D sensing camera etc.
[doublepost=1502316762][/doublepost]

Few people know SE stands for Special Edition.

I could see iPhone X Edition being the name of the premium handset. The others will be the X and the X Plus. All glass-bodied, all supporting wireless charging, but with Edition featuring the bezel-less design.

Edition, as with the Watch, infers a premium quality. With the phone this means you lose the bezels. And you pay for the premium!
The original X.

Is the area for a comparable aspect ratio to the 7 plus larger or smaller on the screen on the iPhone 8?
I keep reading "the screen is bigger" but I can't figure out if people are including the top and bottom areas where the functions like signal strength and the home button will go.

The glass back is a bit annoying for me. Glass is much more slippery then a metal back. Also the white bezels do not work, would have been better for apple to make all the fronts black.

Is it just me, or did others have to read the title several times to work out which phones it is talking about? 7 plus / 7 / 7 s plus whatever etc... What a messy, confusing lineup in terms of how they are named / numbered. A mess!

It is a mess, but how is this any different when the 6s was launched?

Agreed, Rosso, agreed. It's the choice for people with normal-length thumbs. My 6 is approaching EOL and the only reason I'm waiting is that the SE will probably (hopefully) get a spec bump and, perhaps, maybe even a processor bump on 8 release day.

I'm tempted at any new SE as well, if it had Force Touch.

You could say exactly the same thing today re buying: iPhone 6s vs 7. So I'm not really sure what your point is in regards to the post of mine you quoted.

I was wondering if 7S will bring enough changes to be attractive for people who do not need “the latest & greatest”. iPhone 7 brought water resistance, not-moving home button, better sound, camera & brighter screen.

I've an iPhone 6 right now, works fine, maybe a bit slower and less responsive then at the day of purchase but I don't find this worth spending a staggering $1000,- or more for a brand new iPhone. So I'm going to wait for the iPhone 9 or 8S and probably buy the iPhone 8 then instead which will be lower in prize then.

But it all depends on the $1000,- mark, because I'm simply not going to buy a smartphone that will cost me over $1000,- dollars, period. Not that I can't afford it but because I don't think smartphones are worth that much money. It's just a principle thing for me.

I'll wait for the event but I think I'm goin with the 7s so tired of the 7 plus I just don't like big phones don't know how I made it this far, i know the 8 it's the perfect size but the price and no Touch ID is wack

Good point, I always think of thew question if a new phone is worth spending money on. Right now I own an iPhone 6, for me the biggest reason to invest in a new phone in a year or two would be, in order of importance:

- better battery
- better camera
- more responsive
- new features

Battery in combination with "snapshots" worth taking are the two main things I always looking forward to when buying a new iPhone because those two things, for me, are the most used features besides sending messages and e-mails, although battery isn't a feature that one really uses...

All the features starting to loose my interest. I used to have about 500+ apps all together, but the older I become the less I'm using them.

But I must add that I'm impressed with some of the AR features on the new iPhones but that comes along with the software I think. Measuring the length of your table or furniture with your iPhone camera is something I probably going make use of.

A valiant effort Mustang, muhahahah.... :p:D

I sincerely hope everyone looking forward to this new phone is happy with it, whatever they decide to name it. But it doesn't look like it's going to be for me. In some ways that is pleasing, in financial terms, for my wallet. However I would love Apple to design a new iPhone that really excites me more than the SE and I'm a little saddened they don't look like they're going to do that for the time being.

I miss the old days when Steve would send in his private security with the police to confiscate and arrest these guys. I miss the element of surprise at the release. Oh well at least I know which one I want.
He did that once, how'd you get attached to that behaviour? Apple mistakenly releases firmware to the public and you want the police involved with those that downloaded it? That like me saying "I'm going to write my secrets on this whiteboard, please don't read it".

I thought about that too, but decided FT isn't nearly important enough for me to give up the better form factor. And if the 8's security is facial recognition only, FT could cook my breakfast and I'd still buy a FT-less SE.

As someone who didn't think we were getting a redesign for the 7s and 7s Plus, I'm pleasantly surprised. It makes those phones still a pretty nifty upgrade, especially with the wireless charging.

Why though? Why break a 7 year tradition? And then the year after, iPhone 9? Or 8s?

I think they need to stop playing the number game with Samsung. That is part of the reason why I think it will be 8 or nothing. It's dumb, but I bet they don't want to come out with a 7 phone when Samsung has an 8 phone. Just for marketing reasons, it wouldn't be smart. One way to beat them at their own game is to just drop the number altogether.

With iOS 11 all the iPads will essentially have a similar productivity effort. The Pro supports Apple Pencil and other than the size of the device and internal upgrades, it’ll be the same as the iPad. Also, the iPad has been upgraded every year for the most part.

So if we’re to believe all the facial recognition, 4K video capabilities, etc. of the 8 (that won’t be given to the other models presumably) it seems it could be more work related for photographers, etc. I guess I’m looking at it from a marketing aspect where it would fall in line with their other devices and just take on the names (Pro/Mini/Air) like when they announced “the new iPad” and finally dropped the numbers.

Pro just means more features/better specs, same as it always has. This notion that pro has to mean something related to work or productivity is not accurate. It's just marketing.

Because this isn't an "S" type design. The 4 and 4S; 5 and 5S; 6 and 6S looked essentially identical. The biggest change was Touch ID.

The upgrade from 6S to 7 broke the tradition - the design was very similar to the previous generation.

This phone seems to feature a design that's as different as the jump from 6S to 7, if not more. Therefore, based on Apple's very recent history, I'd guess they'll name it 8.

Two separate comments.

The garbage refers to the video and why it is considered news.

The their comment is simply a grammar observation.

i wouldn't be so sure... apple seems to choose the white front, even when the black one would look alot better. (like the RED iphone....)
That's only your opinion. The official colors of Product RED are red and white, not black.

Here there is a functional reason for it to be black.
[doublepost=1502369160][/doublepost]
I'm torn... No Touch ID... I'd say still major Apple Fail here.....
You'd say that, but you're completely ignorant of how this is actually going to work, and have never used the alternative. To form an opinion on things you know nothing about is simply to hate an agenda. A hater agenda.

Thinking of all the broken glass on iPhone 4 I replaced when I worked for Apple back in the day... I'm NOT a fan of the idea that Apple is using glass as the body of an iPhone again.

I suppose I'm the only person who isn't bothered by the "large" bezels on all iPhone designs to date.

Personally I prefer the look of the "7S". I prefer its symmetry over the slightly asymmetrical look of the iPhone 8.

That’s what I said in my other post but the OP stated ‘Pro’ was meant to differentiate productivity efforts. I agree that iPhone Pro (for the 8) would work perfectly and make sense marketing-wise to fit in with their other product lines.
