Personally they should have went for a camera design change, that bump looks even worse when turned the other way, assuming that's how it will be officially.
Give it time, you'll get used to it. And they probably didn't change orientation just for the sake of change, there's probably some tech that made it that way (maybe landscape video is better?).

I miss the old days when Steve would send in his private security with the police to confiscate and arrest these guys. I miss the element of surprise at the release. Oh well at least I know which one I want.

Camera does look weird, but whatever.

I'll probably sit this year out and hope for a larger all-screen iPhone next year, this one seems like a step backward screen real-estate wise.

Maybe stop coming here then if you don't want stuff spoiled... :p
Think of how many more staff there are at all the different manufacturers involved now compared to the old releases where shipments were (making # up) 1/5? 1/10? the size they are now. Way more people to try and keep quiet now.

Yes, I kind of knew I would get that response as soon as I wrote it. Yes, there is an underlying logic. But it is clumsy to have two versions of any given number (i.e. 7 and 7s) and then two versions of each of those (i.e. plus and normal). Then in addition to that need a new number / name with the "8" or whatever at the same release point. It is not at all elegant. I suspect others will feel the same, and I imagine there are those at Apple who probably regret the way their nomenclature has evolved into this. You either see it, or you don't. I do. Just saying...

I’d agree with the elegant part you mentioned. It’s not necessarily tough to understand, just not clean. I can’t see them going with 7s though in any fashion. 8, 8 Plus, and 8 Pro or just drop the number altogether. I think they should drop the number.

iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus and iPhone Edition. What's so hard to understand?

It's not a matter of understanding. It's configuring the legitimacy behind the models, Touch ID/home button placement, colors and pricing. Three models has been rumored for months now and given there is only one OLED iPhone likely, that leaves two lower variants with the 7s and 7s Plus this year.

It's for AR, another thing I don't care much about. I use a case so I don't really care, just saying it looks strange to me. Eventually it will go back to being flat or whatever they come up with.

I agree, get rid of the number, going to look ridiculous when you get to 11, 12, 13...

iPhone 8 or bust
Why are people so pumped for 8, I can't figure out why you would break tradition and skip the pattern (7s). If we went to 8, do we skip 8s and the year after do 9? Just get rid of the number, simple.

Hard to be into something that just started and we haven't seen that much of. VR to me seems like 3D, a gimmick that will fade quickly. AR seems like it could have huge potential without wearing something dorky on your face.

It's only new to them, not new to the programming community. I've been to plenty of things already, it's not something I'm interested in at all. I'm glad it's something that excites others, tech should do that. But for me it seems very boring and not exactly useful.

I think this is the opposite of the 2011 runors. Everyone called it the iPhone 5 and it turned out to be 4S.

Now everyone's calling the 4.7" one the iPhone 7S - I think it'll be 8.

Honestly I know nothing about it I just saw the furniture(Ikea maybe?) demo and my mind ran with it. Oh right, plus the navigation demo where in real time you had arrows showing you the way to your destination. I thought of the medical field how they could use it for teaching. Just seems like something the developer community will run with in ways we never even thought of.

....and a bigger battery..?

Imagine that.

Wouldn't you prefer 2mm thicker phone, for a flush camera and a battery that lasts 2 or 3 days?! ;)

No. The iPhone feels great as it is. Battery life most days is fine for me. I can get a day out of it. That's all I need. Honestly, it if was more I'd probably forget to charge it nightly.

But the same categoris of people could also go for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus which will become cheaper still. So it all depends whether the new features of 7Ss will be good enough to pay an extra 100 or so. Promotion (a higher screen refresh rate) would be a handy addition, cannot think of anything else I miss at the moment.

You could say exactly the same thing today re buying: iPhone 6s vs 7. So I'm not really sure what your point is in regards to the post of mine you quoted.

If Apple remain true to convention and equip coloured phones, (i.e. those that are not Black), with White Bezels, I will be amazed. They would have devoted so much talent and design to reducing Bezels and increasing screen estate on the iPhone's new format only to emphasize the good ol' bezels again in a White colour??

As I say, I'd be amazed.

iPhone X
iPhone X Plus
iPhone X Edition

next year X2, then X3, then X4...

Could be a cool way to reset the naming system!

Why though? Why break a 7 year tradition? And then the year after, iPhone 9? Or 8s?

I don't believe it will be the iPhone 8, but because it doesn't make an sense. But if it is, Apple is breaking tradition, not law. It's done it many times before The PowerBook was renamed the MacBook Pro, the iPad Air line effectively became integrated with the Pro to become a line. Mac OS 9 became Mac OS X and then no Mac OS XI but rather Mac OS X 10.1, .2., .3. All of those were more than mere point updates too.

iPhone X Pro

I have to disagree with this naming system for the iPhone. And the term "Pro" is not fitting for an iPhone at all. There isn't anything Pro about an iPhone that makes and receives calls. The numeric system will continue in all likeliness, But the moniker "Pro" doesn't apply to an iPhone.
