Here's what the real iphone 8 looks like!

From what we know, those aren't actual panels from Apple for the iPhone 8, and moreover, the picture on the left is a mockup of the front and almost surely will NOT be how Apple chooses to handle the on-screen real estate. This has been discussed and pointed out dozens and dozens of times.

Every time one of these "dummy" phones come out before the launch... Tim Cook walks out expecting to surprise us with nothing more than exactly what we have already seen for months. I can't wait for it to happen yet again. There is literally zero surprise and delight anymore.
Back when steve came out and everyones lives stopped for 2 hours. People just stared with amazement. Steves gone, and the Apple decline has been in action for several years now.

There is no wow. But customers (especially seasoned ones like us) believe there will be a wow factor. They expect it. Problem is, people love PHONES. Unless there can be a practical replacement for the phone (cleverly implemented VR?) people will be bored with phones. Its hit a plateau in adverse development. First company which can substancial improve and move past the classic mobile phone will be king. Mark my words

You do realize how ridiculous that sounds, right? I get that they will try to match it (obviously they're not going to put glossy bezel in there), but they can't change the way the display reflects light vs. plastic. They're different materials, and will reflect differently in different environments. If they attempt to tailor it to match perfectly for indoor use, then it will not match perfectly for direct sunlight in outdoor environments, and vice versa. You're just completely making crap up.
The only thing you need to know is that the display and cutout will be indistinguishable most of the time.

They have to act intentionally obtuse since they have no way to justify their silly trolling with actual facts and logic.
I agree. They seem upset that they have no concept how the device will actually look when it's on.

Here, this is what I believe the device will actually functional like:

Everything above and below the white lines—in pink—will be black areas. These areas will function very much the same as the Touchbar on the MacBook Pro in that, they will be mostly turned off pixels with some info inside the areas, shrouded in black off pixels to allow them to seamlessly blend into the bezels, specifically the top cutout.

I don't get it. What possibly is the wow factor (looks-wise) that the S8 has that the iPhone doesn't? More bezel?

Probably the bezel-less sides that the iPhone 8 won't have. When you said more bezel, you forgot to clarify only more bezel on the top and bottom. But the iPhone 8 leaks show it will have more bezel on the sides than the S8, 4mm more to be exact. Comes down to personal taste. Does one prefer more bezel on the top and bottom but bezel-less sides? Or 4mm of bezel around the phone?

I sorta figured they meant the no-bezel sides, although with the light refraction you'd think that may be a draw as opposed to a distinct advantage. But perhaps not.

However, in looking at the mockup iPhone 8 vs. the S8, while it has a little more bezel on the sides, overall it seems to feature less bezel/more usable space than the S8.

Not trolling at all, just stating the facts. If we are to go by the leaks the front of the iPhone won’t be symmetrical anymore, and that is very odd given the fact that apple will place fake screws on their computers just so that everything is symmetrical.

Here I illustrated it for you to help visualize. See how the top has the camera and additional sensors cutting into the display, there is no chin at the bottom to offset the top cutout.

I don't require any help with visualization. It has been explained why the iPhone 8 is likely to be effectively symmetrical both in this thread and countless times before; you choose to ignore that information to cling to your pre-constructed narrative.

A dollar to a donut says that's not what it will look like.
And I bet you more than a donut that this is exactly what it will look like. But what do I know, I haven't been keeping track of all this **** for a while now...

One piece of advice, if you want the surprise of new Apple devices on the day they are released? Stop hanging out on websites called things, like, macrumors.com. And btw, as someone who's had this account on this site for 15 years and was actually on it and following Apple rumors years before that, and having been an Apple user since I was 5 years old in kindergarten in like 1982 -- none of this is new. In fact there used to be more leaks on this site a decade-plus ago. So stop acting like you know everything about everything, and whining on internet message boards about stuff you have the ability to control in your life, but choose not to, because honestly, you do want to see the leak pics, which is why you frequent websites (and associated message boards) that have URLs like macrumors.com.

Thank you.

So you are telling me that radical physical design change is considered pushing the ball forward? lol

If the rumors are even remotely true, this is going to be a f***ing gigantic upgrade.
I can't quite tell if you're being facetious, but if you think about it, the smartphone/mini-tablet form factor is more or less perfected at this point. If this thing has an under-screen fingerprint scanner, "lasers" that do 3D environmental mapping, wireless induction charging, better battery life, onboard AI processor, etc., well cripes, those are things I care about more than perfecting a form-factor that is, again, already basically perfected. But if I can do way more cool stuff WITH it? Count me in.

say what you want about iphones circa 2008-2011 'lagging' in specs, features etc relative to their android counterparts... those phones had sex appeal to them.

this just looks and feels like a nerd's toy. 'edge to edge display'. big deal.

if the phone ends up being like these latest mockups, and you considered iPhone4 to have sex appeal, then i most certainly think this one will appeal to you as well once you see it in real life.

apparently, j.Ive wanted to do a complete glass enclosure but they can't quite get the two halves to fuse together in an acceptable fashion.. this design though still goes after that idea.. glass front/back.. little to no bezel.. steel(?) band that's seamless and curvature continuous around the edges.

idk, maybe just wait until it's actually released prior to judging how sexy it looks.. because i think you might retract your statement eventually ;)

Am I the only on who isn't impressed with the design? It lacks a wow factor. The Galaxy S8 has a significant wow factor and it's starting to look like iPhone won't be the best looking phone on the market soon...
They are HANDHELD SCREENS! WHat the heck is a "wow-factor" at this point? I think the first mass-produced phone with an under-screen thumbprint scanner is pretty "wow."

After 30 seconds, I couldn't take anymore, especially with the obnoxious music.
I know! If only, like, you could click your mouse around on the video timeline and skip around, and hit a button to mute the music!

I mean, if this is the final design, I don't HATE it. I'm relatively lukewarm to this design and I'll probably warmup to it a lot once I see the real thing.

I wonder why they didn't (or couldn't) just push the screen to the actual edge where it lips down instead of having that thin strip of bezel surrounding the screen. Keep the same glass as the 7, just push the display to the actual edge like the concept on the right (ignore the OS):

b20459a684059fae7f2f3ece_rw_1200.jpg

It's not a full curve, but a 2.5d edge-to-edge looks better than the actual deep curve on the S8 imo.
Don't you maybe think they would do that, if they could shrink the sensor packages at the top of the front of the phone down small enough to do that? You know Apple has like patents and **** on how to embed the camera into the screen itself, like the fingerprint scanner? They are working up to it, but basic engineering limitations don't just let them make an arbitrary decision like that. I mean the perfect execution of any smartphone would be an edge-to-edge display, or close to, that has no visible sensors anywhere. But it's the same reason there's a bulge on the back -- it's an exceptionally sophisticated sensor package they have to cram into there, with its own engineering limitations for how deep it needs to be, and that's just how it is. They could either reduce the bulge by increasing the entire depth of the device (giving us better battery life), or have a bulge but thinner phone, with not as good battery life. Apple has consistently chosen the latter for a long time now, so why would you be surprised at this point? I just hope that hump contains a 3D environmental scanning system.

Your overly negative comment doesn't make sense using your own established logic.

You say you prioritize "sexiness" of a device (over features and performance, I guess?), saying the 2008-2011 "sex appeal" iPhones are better than this concept/leaked phone. In other words, you literally just said the comparatively fat, also rounded iPhone 3G and 3GS with PLASTIC backs are the anti-"nerd's toy" compared to an all-black iPhone 8 made entirely of glass and presumably DLC-coated stainless steel. Further, even as you apparently laud form over function, you completely dismiss an edge-to-edge screen (something that represents both form and function, for the record) in favor of two phone models that featured huge, albeit symmetrical, bezels.

Don't get me wrong. I don't at all think the phones you referenced ware ugly and I enjoy their aesthetic, too, but your complaints here don't really make any sense. You're either a parody poster or you have no idea what you want. You also say iPads suck but are completely incapable of giving a reason as to why. "Sure, they have all this great stuff, but big deal! They suck!"

Color me confused.
I like you, newbie. :)

but the 8 is on the S-cycle.

5
5s
6
6s
7
7s & 8 at same time (if there is a 7s)
If the 7s and 8 come out at the same time, and Apple sticks to a now long-established pattern (and they might not), doesn't it seem like the 8s could maybe be a thing someday?

I actually think the 8 will ship 3-6 months later than the 7s.

oh, right.. i guess i didn't really type what i was meaning to say.. but yeah, likely an 8s eventually.

---
regarding the S-cycle though.. the reason i said something is because here are the iPhones i've owned:

3Gs
4s
5s
6s
[edit]oh wait.. had a 3G also[/edit]

..like, i'm most definitely on the 'S-cycle' because i've owned only ,and all of, the S models ;)

and my cycle is pointing towards me buying a new phone shortly.. (but i'll almost certainly be interested in buying this rumored 8 as opposed to a 7s)

----
interesting thought about the 8 shipping later.. i haven't considered that a possibility until now.

Definitely a misunderstanding. I completely agree with you.

Even wrote about it on the blog. The physical design has been perfected, now Apple's design is focused internally and is going to do wonders.

I LOVE the look of the front, and I KNOW why the cameras are vertically stacked on the back, but that back is BUTT ugly!! That camera bulge is just hideously huge
