I'm thinking its for a band/singer and/or group of bands and/or singers to launch Apple Music..

But I really really really hope I'm wrong and they have something else up their sleeve. That would be a nice surprise I must say.

So then the next question is WHY this venue. (Aside from the fact that Apple was basically *born* in this building when they introduced their very first complete personal computer at the West Coast Computer Faire)

All I can come up with is either:
  1. The TV update is a huge leapfrog kind of update, and they need the extra headcount to invite tv/film/entertainment industry.
  2. They're also introducing the TV subscription package
  3. The TV update includes major homekit functionality and some of the auditoriums interior space will be set aside for demos and such

They are inviting all the Apple haters from Mac Rumors forums, they need tons of seating.

...Still think the new Apple TV is gonna be $99? ;)

No way. $199

Or, simply, they were hoping for all of that, but couldn't make it happen. Well, the place is booked, may as well have it there anyway...

My gut tells me that AppleTV may be a much bigger release than we expected!!

Media Streaming, Game playing, App Downloading, HomeKit Command Center, Phone and Video Conferencing device and more. It might also have a built in wifi router... It is possible that content deals are more complete than we imagined too. If this along with the standard iPhone release were true, then that explains why the venue is so big. As the AppleTV could be the center of all things Apple in the home (IE HomeKit) and there is so much to show around that and for people to demo. Truly Massive release!!

I feel homekit will be the biggest push and they need the space to do that.

I really hope you are right. I am just tired of waiting for this long overdue ATV update. Last year similar posts like yours were all over and nothing. I am just not holding my breath anymore.

Sometime next week we'll get media invite image and hopefully if Apple releases AppleTv 4th Gen it won't be over $250 because if it is -- I won't be buying until its on the refurb section on Apple ....

I'd say $99 very bottom maybe 129 - 179.95 is right price range ... have to wait another 2 weeks to find out ....

Found a photo of the Civic Auditorium the last time Apple was there...

star formation does not look like an Apple.. wrong shape for one...

No one even assume, this all could be just a coincidence ? since there is no proof, i'm betting its another location Apple has kept secret.

The notes in red say the star is for structural purposes.

Bill Graham was(?) a big time music promoter (assuming it is the same BG), so maybe there is significance in the namesake location because Apple is going to do smth music heavy as well...

Isn't $100 already 2-3x the price of competing products? If they want to remain competitive, shouldn't the price remain the same or possibly even be reduced? The real money is in persistent services and subscription model. They'll practically be giving away these tiny boxes some day just to increase the customer base.

Apple TV won't be $99. I haven't been keeping up with Apple TV news, so I don't know what the new one is supposed to do, but the Android TV boxes (specifically the NVIDIA Shield TV) that do anything more than stream Netflix and Hulu are $199 and up. If it's $99, it won't be competing with those whatsoever.

Considering we don't really know what it's capable of, we don't really know what the competing product are. (Should we include PS4?)

And how much was the first iPhone compared to "competing products"? Or the Apple Watch? Or the __insert_anything_apples_ever_made_here__?
