MacRumors.com is pleased to announce a new feature for our active Mac forums.

The Forum Spy (http://spy.macrumors.com) provides visitors with real-time updates of all new forum activity. This means you get instant updates when users post new messages on the forums.

The Forum Spy is open to everyone but registered forum users have additional options including:

• Excluding specific forums
• Hilight those on your Buddies list
• Ignore those on your Ignore list
• Hilight Subscribed threads

Forum Spy is based on the same technology behind MacRumorsLive and requires a modern browser with Javascript enabled (this includes recent versions of Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox).

So if you haven't been an active member of the forums, now's your chance to follow along and participate in the discussions.

Tips for the Forum Spy

- Click on "Preferences" to exclude specific forums
- Links open in a New Window by default (Preferences has an option to change this)
- New Threads are in Bold
- Clicking the Thread title brings you to the appropriate post
- The icon (
sortdesc.gif
) to the left of the Thread title brings you to the start of the thread
- Use your Buddy and Ignore lists
- A Check-Box Icon (
subscribed.gif
) appears to the right of threads you are subscribed to.
- Enabling Default Thread Subscription Mode will automatically subscribe you to threads you post to.

This really is an awesome feature. Big thanks to all those who were involved in it's creation! 🙂

Useful...if you want to win the "first post" contest...pfft

[EDIT] Its actually growing on me now....damn thing, I'm finding I'm watching the updates instead of working! 😉 [/EDIT]

Glass is half empty huh? 🙄 pfffft.

ANYWAY...

On a more positive note 🙂 It is indeed a fantastic new feature, and has come a long way very quickly.

Jolly good job chaps! 😀 Tally ho!

The contributors/demi's have been testing it for the past week, and despite some initial resistance/skepticism, people seem to love it.

This is great. I can simply open this page up and leave it on my dock all day while I work. Checking back to see what new news there is in the world of Apple!!

arse!

well, I'm not sure I can cope with this kinda motion sickness that this web 2.0 technology brings us.

edit ....is this some of that assymetric javascript and XML type stuff?

Great feature this is amazing! Very useful to.

Something I think that needs to be done in my opinion is that the "skin" needs to be done, because a lot of it is the default vBulletin skin. (Sorry if it's off topic).

Great work overall ^_^

I must say, this is actually quite nice.

Thank you so much. For a free site I was surprised to see that the page is not just covered top to bottom with ads.

Thanks again! I now have a new home page 🙂

Webclip material!

First thing I thought when I saw this was that this is going to be the first thing I put as a webclip on the dashboard with Leopard!

Love the feature guys.
