Missing the 'most liked posts' button. This was my most used feature especially on longer threads. I'm less likely to trawl through comments now as finding the occasional gem will be that much more time-consuming...

After the biggest Apple event of the year, peak activity for the forums, and no prior announcement was the time to do it, eh?

From the sounds of it, they believed it would be more a matter of minutes rather than hours. Perhaps the database had to be converted akin to transferring to an entirely new forum and this took a long time considering the millions of entries here. It's often not as big a deal switching to a new point version.

Hm. I haven't played around that much yet; Which features are missing?

Cannot seem to sort a thread by popularity of the posts (ie: by likes).

I did that by reflex action a lot and it allowed me to focus on meaty and relevant posts. I missed that right away, and I'm still trying to figure out if it is there still or ?

Try using the new 'Trending' tab to see the current most popular threads.

I'll try that - but you see, I do not want to know the most popular "threads". I want the most popular "posts" within a particular thread.

I'm going to try what you suggest, but I think you have misunderstood what I and others are looking for.

I (or maybe We) want "most liked" posts within a thread.

Yes, the lack of advance notice was a very odd approach. I would be interested in hearing why that was the chosen way to go.

In my opinion the "new" look of the forum is retro looking as I have been on my forums that have this style. As for dark mode the very first thing I did was change it back to light mode as I personally can't stand light font on a dark background. However, as long as the content is the same I doesn't matter to me.

The new layout takes some getting use to. I remember the old layout one could click on the posters name and go to the last thread posted. Now one has to click on the page number box.

edit: I may have misremembered. Clicking on the time brings one to the last post.
I did notice the share icon next to it which is what clicking on a post number used to do, give you a link directly to the post you are looking at for sharing. But when I click on the post number now, it just reloads the page? And clicking on the time the post was made, just reloads the page too. Is there something I am missing?

I’m liking how links are handled. When I used to post a link, I would also copy and paste the title of the link to highlight it. Now it seems like posted links include and display the header that came with them in the original article.

Are these all from the same pool of icons? I’m thinking no, because the smileys from my iPad look different, have more depth. Can you all see the second group in my post? I can see them. ⛩😢🖌

notifications - they're a bit more tmi, it will say X user reacted to "thread title" with a Like instead of x user liked your post with a quick link.

Two different things. As in the past, the smilies included in the forum are image sprites, with updated XenForo styling. With emoji, you'll see whatever font design your vendor (for most folks here, that will obviously be Apple) has chosen to represent them.

Here's what your post looks like on a system with no font emoji support. ;)

That was a nice feature, as was the "Areas" tab on profiles. Hope both of these can be brought back.

What’s interesting there, is that 2 of the top icons are blank, and I pulled them all from forum’s pool of emoticons (I think). :)

Any way to make them slightly larger in appearance? The ones that came from my iPad keyboard and some of the forum items are uncomfortably small.

Is there a huge demand to have these emoticons as an option? Surely a site for serious (ok, not always as serious as perhaps it should be) discussion about Apple centric issues can do without smiley faces for users to express approval for another user's comments. Just my opinion...
