I find it funny how everyone thinks that it could be a new iPod. The last major iPod revision was when, October? It's not going to happen.

It's possible that they'll eliminate the shuffle, but I doubt it. People are going to buy those like mad since they're cheap as dirt now. I did. It's the perfect cheap buy for consumers.

It's going to be a bunch of iPod accessories with a few computer-related items thrown in to keep most people happy.

New iBook, maybe. New Mac mini, maybe. No other amazingly new products other than the iPod stuff.

I hope you are being sarcastic. The invite specifically says "new products"

Right you are - a bit of sarcasm - ha: but a college scholarship is a "new product" for Apple - no?

if it were showing off the january products...i belive instead of

come see some fun new products

i would imagine the line

come see the fun new products

and the macbook pro isnt "fun" its "the beast"

I don't want to be right, can anyone enlighten us as the the patent process?
You absolutely do not need to wait for patents to issue (a process which typically takes 18-42 months, but can sometimes take longer). In my field there is a patent that was files in 1987 that just issued 2 years ago. The new rules make patents expire 20 year from initial filing, which makes it less likely that patents will languish that long now. This is why many products carry the "Patent Pending" mark.

During this time, the patents cannot be enforced against anyone else, but competitors would be well advised not to ignore published patent applications.

Thats entirely true... good post. I didn't read it this way but your right it can be taken in that manor.

"Come See Some Fun New Products From Apple"

It can also mean...

Come see...some fun new products from Apple

or

Come see some fun...New products from Apple

Lets hope there will be NEW product announcements.

Why Tuesday's

Everyone feel free to call me dumb, but I'm a newbie on here, why does Apple like to hold announcements on Tuesdays. BTW I am with many people on the idea of an iPDA, just not sure how fun that would be!

I agree.

New products means NEW PRODUCTS. This isn't hard to understand.

Well, the zealots may prove me wrong, but here's my thinking..

Stevo has always wanted to be a rock star (Apple named after Apple records supposedly, steve's a big Beatles fan, dylan fan, etc.), and thus acts accordingly. New music releases have always come out on Tuesdays, so SJ releases Apple products on Tuesdays.

Feel free to call me crazy, or steal this idea for your very own.

*Hopes*

Actually this makes me somewhat sad considering that I'm probably going to the Apple Store this weekend sometime. Oh well. I'll just have to check out the new products online.

Macworld as Steve said was to be about Macs. Little iPod stuff...

The Apple computer channels are chocka with iMacs and MacBooks at present, and April 1 aint too far off - channels should be clear by then.

Its new "fun" stuff.

ITMS is clocking up fast.

Apple make money off the iPod not so much the ITMS - so Apple iPod products would make good money as well if designed as a must have.

My view - its going to be an iPod/ITMS related Apple product.

Likely a very cool looking product with some unique twists:-

Maybe a clock/radio/iPod Dock. I would buy that.
Maybe an AXpress for video tunes to the digital TV.
Maybe a wireless touchscreen controller for controlling via AXPresses music and maybe video.

Stuck in the "nerd" realm? Tivo being shown on "Sex and the City" makes DVRs "stuck in the nerd realm?" Also, much as I love Apple, they would have to do A LOT to improve on what Tivo has done for DVRs. In my mind, Tivo has got the UI for DVRs down pat.

w00master

Isn't Tivo limited to the USA? Sure, we're starting to have DVR offers here in Canada too (directly from the distributors) but they're very expensive (about the same price as a Mac mini in some cases).

That's partially true, but has less to do with being "in line" with the music business' releases than you are implying. We also hold national elections on Tuesdays. Publicly released movies are also released on that day. I'm sure the same is true across the board for industries and announcements that we know nothing about. It's like a "business rule". If you got something to release or introduce, do it on a Tuesday.

I forgot exactly why, but I do remember [a few years back] looking into this "Tuesday release" issue and remembering that "polls" had shown that Tuesday is the best day for maximum public turnout and/or listenership for any mass releases and/or announcement.

Isn't it the other way around, they show their "OOPS" first and then you put the beads around their neck?

I don't care which happens first. Just show me the OOPS.

Besides iPod Mini and iPod Shuffle at MacWorld, the iPod events seem to usually take place in the fall, before Christmas season. This seems like not the best timing.

i hope its like a DVR thing for the ipod... i would like too see that and compare it to the new tivo series 3 that is supposed to be out soon.
If its new color socks i'm gonna be pissed, maybe there'll be all white or black for dress socks

I think Tivo is doing a good enough job all by itself :p

I have one and love it but the comany isn't doing so well.

I've had my EyeTV connected to my Mac since '02 and have used it endlessly. I haven't used Tivo, but I imagine they're pretty much the same [except for Mac support apparently, which I've heard Tivo sucks at].

I know that Tivo hasn't been doing well for a couple of years now and I remember the "Apple to buy Tivo" rumors back in '04.

Maybe they'll finally do it. Possibly put a limit on the quality of the Tivo recorded material [like no DVD or maybe just HD quality], launch their online movie store with FULL quality AND extras like the ones you get on DVD's.

Talk about domination!

While the Apple PDA has been rumored to death... You might just be on to something. Though maybe not a PDA, maybe a... dare I say it... smartphone?

You know, NOW I really do hope so. I liked my Treo, but now the new Treo 750 uses windows ce[?] instead of Palm OS.

I was about to go buy a Motorola SLVR, but I think i'll wait now until next Tuesday... just to get punched in the babymaker by Apple's release of the Nano sock.

Did you see that?!!! How cleverly I tied in "punched" and "sock"... but sock is dual context... meh.

NVM. :)

My advice: stay away from macrumors for the next week, go camping, do a little joging, play some football, go out with friends... Or else you´ll end up disapointed and whining whatever comes out... ;)

THIS... is one of the better posts I have seen here in months. So true.
Thanks for the laugh, QM. :)

I follow Apple as much as any long-time Mac dork. And personally, these little surprise announcements never give me what I really want. Sometimes, Apple gets close (which is amazing enough, I suppose)... but they tend to withhold a feature here, a configuration there - which keeps my money in my wallet. Dammit.

Next Tuesday will be no different, I'm afraid. I expect some "fun" iPod accessories and not much more. All the TiVO killer, MacTab, MacPad, PDA, iPhone, iBook, 17" MacBook Pro, Gestures, multi-touch media center remote Pod insanity will be met with reality. And it's name will be iBoombox.

Yah.

Now where's my tent?
