Just putting my 2cents in... I remember something about how the ibooks were going to be totally revamped.. when I think of fun I think colour, and seeing as though the macbook is due to be released do you think we might see a return of the coloured ibook? Hopefully annodized metal....!!!

i think there might be some ipod stuff there too.. only time will tell!
they should at least come in black and white, like the iPods

Wow thats a really ingenius Idea

p.s I like how you spell coloured :)

Don't know if everyone has already seen this...

But this guy thinks its mostly software.

Of course, he also didn't know that iLife was already Universal Binary, so take what he thinks with a grain of salt.

Before Macworld, there were rumors circulating about an ipod boombox, and then right before the event there was a rumor that the boombox was pushed back. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that is the fun new product.

Also, I'm sure that there will be new itunes deals.

So, I'm not really in the "oh my god, apple needs to release a new pda right now" camp, but doesn't it seem pretty obvious that this is at least a possibility?

Coin pocket invite = ipod nano (fits in your pocket)
Theatre curtain invite = ipod video (watch movies)
Calendar invite = ipod pda?

I just don't think the calendar graphic is coincidence at all.

I've heard some cool stuff about CalDAV a new standard that should allow iCal to act as a client to a web-hosted calendar. I'd love to hear an announcement on that front. It would make my work / home separation much easier...

thoughts?

I don't know if it's a PDA, of course, but I agree that the graphic on the invite is significant.

iTunes Pricing?

what with ricky gervais saying how hes gonna charge for the next installments of his podcast, maybe were going to see more, payed for content in the podcast directory?

....not exactly fun though. my dream would be a palm type device or a camera, or both :p

Bah!

Clearly, the iCal icon is there to throw everyone off. My inside sources tell me Steve teamed up with George Foreman to come up with the Lean Mean Computin' Machine. Sorry, MacBook Pro buyers, but it has already been upgraded to make grilled cheese sandwiches when you close it. Amazingly excess fat just drains right through the keyboard!

Display

Im goin with new displays (tired of the old ones also evryone else is crankin out the hdcps apple should be right around th corner) and either the mac mini media center or what ever you want to call it and or a new powermac because i really want an intel one (i knwo they wont come out till december but i can wish)

I hope the iPod always stays an iPod. No phone, no pda...just a toy, that's all it is and all it should ever be. It'd be like spinach ice cream.

Too late. They already added video instead of keeping it music-only and improving the music features.

</cranky music snob>

The word "fun" definitely leads one to believe that these won't be Pro products. But, hey, the iPod was just something "fun" when it came out, and look what it's done to the computing/music world.

Something really awesome could come out of this announcement. If anything, it will bring us one week closer to when even more amazing products are announced.

Something like that would fit in nicely with the iTunes U program that Apple is starting. Apple could potentially break open the textbook world and FINALLY bring down the price of books for us college students that are sick and tired of paying for only ten pages of a book (because that's all you end up using).

That would be great. Text books are way to expensive for what you actually use.

Remember that Apple will most likely be hosting a media event April 1st.

They say join us for SOME fun NEW products.

Some by itself implies three or more things. New could obviously refer to an update, but more likely something completely revamped.

I would reserve iPod announcements for the April 1st event. Apple has traditionally not released completely new (actual) iPods sooner than 6 months. Since October, it has been a little over 4. April 1st would be just under six. So that might give more credibility if you look at their timeline.

For now, the most plausible arguments are the Media Center, Tablet, and iBook.

The iBook might be too soon, but its never to early to announce anything.

I would bet on the Media Center. The tablet would be a great opportunity to use the integrated camera-display, and that thechnology I believe is still new.

So my bet is some media center. This could include a Viiv display, new mac mini, something competely different, or all three.

Again, I'd stray from iPod announcements until April 1st, as a big thing for their 30th, to celebrate a long trusted product (not something new for an anniversary). And it will all go together logically. If at all there are iPod announcements on Tuesday, it would probably be only that type (media-related) announcements.

iCal pic significance

I really don't understand why everyone thinks that the iCal picture is or may be significant. I am pretty sure that they are just using it like a "save the date" or mark your calenders reminder.

Yeah, I don't believe the iCal logo has any significance for the release. I want to see an Mac Mini Media Center. In true Apple fashion, I bet they will stay away from using the term "Media Center" and give it something unique. I would go for anything but Mighty Media.

Yeah, the year of HD. I have a feeling there's a lot more in store for that.

Just as a side note/question: I've been coming to MacRumors.com for five years now, yet I still have that infernal "macrumors newbie" next to my name. How can I get rid of that? I post messages periodically, but I visit the site EVERYDAY, usually multiple times a day, and I'm logged in everytime I do. Ugh.
Post your informed opinion several times a day and your rating will increase.

Since it is fun, and Steve just got on the board of Disney, maybe it is just a rebranding of "Mighty Mouse" to "Micky Mouse". Red mouse with two round black paddles on the side to finally manufacture the three button mouse. :D

When Steve Jobs introduced Front Row the invitation had curtains
When Steve Jobs introduced the iPod Nano the invitation had a jeans pocket.

I believe there is precedence for a hint in the invitation..

Having read all the posts & taken some tidbits in along the way, I think it will be linked to the iTMS achieving 1bn songs. Sure there's gonna be ipod related announcements, nothing major tho, couple of upgrades possibly to shuffle, possible boom box etc...

I can see Steve announcing the major milestone in the company's history, how they started it all for the love of creating products and how the iTMS is all about the music etc, and then BOOM, a whole new product lineup allowing users to create music probably linked to Garageband, which includes the ill-fabled rumour of Asteroid - music started it all and where users can enjoy and have more fun in the creation.

I believe when Garageband was first announced in the keynote with John Mayer, Steve's words mentioned having fun in the creation of music.

All other incidentals, such as Logic express not going universal etc could be rolled in as Asteroid may not just be a music breakout box, but infact a whole production suite of gadgets linked exclusively with iLife (hence overblown MWSF'06 singing its praises!)

Either way not long to go, I'm probably way off, Asteroid or not, it's going to be an interesting few days!

Sorry, Final Cut Express not going universal.

What about that patent....

What about that patent Apple filed regarding some kind of color changing system/device for computers/iPods? Just a thought...that might be "fun".:D

The chameleon patent or something like that? That would be pretty sweet if it was implemented in the right way. But I have no idea what the right way would be

I'm sure this has already been mentioned somewhere in the 28 pages of posts; however, with the calendar logo, could that be an indication of a PDA/Organizer? Fits the invite ...
