Well I'll give it a go and try out my own prediction... Apple is inviting the media to the town square. Apple has said "fun new products." Apple's 30th anniversary is still over a month away.
Here's the list of rumored new/updated products.
1) iPod Boombox
2) Consumer MacBook
3) Intel MacMini
4) Media Center Mac-Mini
5) 17 in MBP
6) Media Center Displays
7) New Shuffle
8) Video iPod
9) BT Mighty Mouse
Judging by the media invitation I feel like it has to be something noteworthy, but not life-altering. If I were apple I would be saving the big releases for their Anniversary. As much as I hate to admit it, anything Media Center related would be considered huge, giant, earth-shattering. While I think there will be a time when iTMS video sales is replaced by DVR or ViiV, I think Apple is enjoying its current success. Furthermore, I dont think any pro devices would be considered "fun."
From this logic, the MBP, and Media Center devices are out of my consideration. BT Mighty Mouse is hardly worth mentioning at a keynote, leaving iPod and consumer Macs left to handle. Assuming low clocked dualies will be used in both the mini and MacBooks, than this seems like a great time to release them (with back to school season coming up). If they decide to go solo, then we may see these later on. Furthermore, iPod=fun. A boombox and a new shuffle will round it out.
Because a new vPod would require changes in resolution than what is currently offered in iTMS, I think they will wait to release it when the Media Center bomb is dropped. Unless of course, next tuesday is actually much bigger than I am expecting... here's to hoping Apple drops the bomb. A little MacMini Tivo would sure make my day.
