From Appleinsider

This just in from appleinsider:

In the Mac sector only two product lines show any potential for a refresh before the company's third quarter ends in late June: the iBook G4 and the Mac mini. Both product lines have seen a significant slowing of demand recently and are prime subjects for a rebuffing as the educational buying season approaches.

While the Mac mini is due to gain a bit more RAM and potentially the long-lost iPod dock, sources have only commented on slightly redesigned iBooks said to be making the rounds on the west coast. If Apple fails to refresh either of these products next week, it could be almost a month before the company makes any moves.

I really hope they release an updated version Monday. I'm leaving for Japan in 10 days, and I have to purchase a laptop before then for the school I'm attending in Tokyo. So I don't want to purchase the iBook right now if there is a chance a new one will be released.

But even if a new one is released Monday, I don't know if it will ship before I leave! *eek* decisions!

So come Monday/Tuesday I will have to place an order on either current G4 iBook or *hopefully* new iBook :)

New iBooks coming!!!

I was on the phone with Apple Customer Service and they are sending me a new ibook to replace my current one, which has a manufacturing defect. They let it slip that my new iBook will not even ship for at least two weeks, as there have not been any special builds allowed for 5 weeks, and the specs of my replacement will not even be available until sometime next week. If this does not mean a new iBook at WWDC, then I live on mars! Way to Go Apple!

Awesome! ^^

You live in Seattle too, huh? There seems to be a lot of us here ... :)

I think they will update them, I mean its WWDC. Also, I think iBook should have a 16" or 17" screen, seeing the 12" gives me the feeling I should go with a Mac Mini. But I do love portability, but Mac Mini, then save up for a 15" PB. I wonder if the Mac Mini's will be updated?

You just made my day!!! I've been waiting until the updates come out to buy an iBook!

What else could it mean?

I've got a couple of build to order iBooks in my cart at the Apple.com Apple Store. When the new iBooks are announced next week, do they delete these orders or do they change them? I've never bought something on the first day before.

Did they mention any spec changes such as CPU speed, GPU or screen size?

I've been thinking...wouldn't it be a good idea if Apple dropped the PowerBook 12", lowered the prices on the 15" and 17" (15" starts at $1500), and then had the iBooks update with the new graphics card and speeds of 1.33 and 1.42? :)

That may lure more of the market share of PC users to mac.

I still think a 12' is a great product. Some would argue that you could go with a 12' PB...but hey if you can get an iBook for less why not? :D (if you dont care for the xtra features of the PB that is!)

new ibook and apple store

If the new ibooks are to be announced lets say, Monday, would the apple store have them ready to be purchaced the next day or even that Monday?

This is hard to believe. I don't think that ordinary Apple employees would know of any upgrade when there is no reliable rumor around. If many people know then there will be a rumor...

Yup, Seattle is a mac lovers paradise, 4 Apple Stores and 7 resellers all within 15 minutes drive!

I've only been to the one in Bellevue ... and I don't even own a Mac yet. ;_;

As I ordered mine on April 29, it didn't ship till May 11 thou. So the no special builds for 5 weeks is a bit off. of course I have been quite happy with mine since I finally got it. if they announce new specs in the near future, I may think about selling this one a bit cheaper than I paid for it and ordering a new one, but that is not a grantee of my future plans. would be interesting thou, to say the least.

The Apple online store will be down during the keynote then up again with the new updates ready to purchase, (whether or not they are ready to ship is a different matter.) I have no idea how long it takes for the new products to get to the shops, probably depends on the size of the update and how much demand there will be for it.

I'm thinking there's going to be a bump in iPod shuffles because:

A: It's been about six months since release, and that's the usual span of time between iPod updates right?

B: I just bought the 1GB yesterday & have waited to open it until monday!

C: Because it would be awesome.

haha. dream on :D
32mb of vram is a joke and was not adequate even in 2003, furthermore it does not fully support the core image features in tiger so the vram will defiantly be bumped to 64mb wither it be a nVidia GeForce FX Go 5200 or anATI Mobility Radeon 9600, however the G4 speed bump maybe more along the lines of 1.33ghz but I think 1.5ghz is not out of the question.

I think it will get 64MB VRAM and 512MB RAM to bring it up to Tiger standard, but for the processor to jump from 1.2 to 1.5 would be too much, (and not really needed - if people want a powerful laptop then they should buy a PBook.)
