All the waiting has paid off. I've finally made an informed decision and I'm getting a Powerbook. Sick of waiting and with the planned BTO upgrades I was going to do etc, there isn't much difference in price.

Time to place that order!

You are a very wise man (or woman) !

I arrived at the same conclusion myself - after waiting a couple of months and weighing up the cost of ibook upgrades etc I too decided on a powerbook. Bought it 8 days ago and love it.

To anyone else who is still waiting, i think there comes a point where you have to stop waiting and just buy something. There will always be a newer model around the corner and just think of all the time you're missing out on using one of these lovely laptops while you wait ;)

I'm a Man. :)

I now just have to order my BTO Powerbook = 12" 1.5GHz Powerbook Superdrive, 100GB HD, 512RAM (will Crucial it to 1.25GB when I get more money!)

It's going over my budget a bit but it just seems to make more sense.

AHHHHHHH New iBooks tomorrow. Don't do it

just kidding. got to get to a thousand posts ;)

Enjoy your new iBook.

US Apple Store still has iBooks as "Same Day Shipping".

Hopefully it will be soon though for those waiting. Me... I've jumped ship. :)

well all this waiting has made me not want an ibook anymore i have decided to keep my sony vaio and spend the ibook money on home made pc( ), however i know its not a mac but its still a nice system a P4 640 3.2ghz 2mb L2 500gb, 1gb of ddr2 ram and a 6600gt plus an amazing asus board makes that one hell of a system so naturally now that i have spent my ibook money they will be updated tomorrow

so i guess another tuesday has come and gone and no ibook upgrades
i'm starting to get impatient-if they don't come out in the next 2 weeks i'll just have to buy a ibook or maybe a powerbook 12"

OMG!
you were one of the original "waiter"s for the iBook i think...
if you've made the "other" switch (iBook to powerbook), i might need to question my own resolve...

oh hmmmm i could have sworn it was tuesday-i usually go to CT every weekend and come back on a monday evening so i guess coming back on sunday evening for a change threw things off

I come every day to MR and see if anything happens. And I been doing this for the last 3.5 months or so for a 12" ibook. If Apple doesn't come through this month, i been pretty disappointed and annoyed.

Whilst looking at the picture, I also took the time to see the shipping time. If you upgrade the RAM to 1.25GB, the shipping time rises to 5-7 days. Is this usual for the australian site or is it a sign of an upcoming update, (which will take a while to reach australia)?

I am pretty sure that the new iBook will be out by the end of next week, possibly even tommorow if you're lucky.....

SHadOW :D

I was told the new iBooks will be released tomorrow.

Here are the specs.

- 8x Superdrives across the line.
- Top speed of 1.5Ghz
- 512MB RAM standard across the line.
- BT2.0 and SMS available on the top-end
- The 14" iBook now sports 1280x960 resolution.

What's SMS? And what do you mean by availalbe on the top end? YOu mean standard or what? And what is the "top-end"? You mean 14"?

But damn, Superdrives standard on base models?

"Apple added a feature called Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) to the PowerBook line in early 2005. The sensor attempts to prevent data loss by parking the heads of an active disk drive after detecting a "sudden motion", which could be due to strong vibrations or a fall." kernelthread.com

You would think they updated the graphics card if they did all of this. I'd rather have that updated the most compared to anything else.

even the powerbooks don't have superdrives standard across the line
what's SMS?
BT 2.0 would be most likely be available across the line, not just on the top end models

for these 3 reasons, i highly doubt the information is accurate
