I'm ordering /something/ on Friday, and it has to run Mac OS X and be mobile. I'm hoping for a new iBook 12" or thereabouts, and the post above about new iBook stock coming in tonight gives me hope. Otherwise I think I'll look at a PowerBook, but even they are 6 months old. I don't know what Apple think they are doing with updates this infrequent, but it is certainly not a good policy in my opinion.

Maybe the PowerBooks will be getting updated tomorrow as well.

Regardless, it will be kinda funny if after all this time and 1000 posts in this thread, the new iBooks came out on a Thursday.

The PB was last updated in January so that's already 6 months.

Sorry to nit-pick, but the last PB revision was announced on 31st January and they shipped beginning of Feb - so that's only 5 months! :p

I've been folling this ibook thread/update now for i'd say hmmm,,,,4-5 months. Anyway, I'm usually one for instant pleasure, but i've been holding off. ANYWAY, when i checked the canadian apple store, (i'm from canada) I notice the shipping time for the ibook is now 5-7 business days, where I swear 2 days ago it was only 2-4 ...does this mean something?????

P.S. I called my local bestbuy to see what ibooks they had in stock, they said they had not recieved a shipment of them in over a month and that the new stock should be arriving tomorrow (wednesday) night....so does this mean something?????
Yeah, the canadian store previously listed them as shipping in 2-4 days. Compusmart Express (in Ottawa) used to have the ibooks on display, but they've been sold out for quite some time.

Don't know if shipping times are anything to go by anymore. A couple of weeks ago, shipping times on the Mini went to over a week, yet no update was forthcoming. The times are back to 24 hours. Hoping that iBook updates are soon, though. I'm waiting to place an order for a 12".

Somewhere (here?) recently I came across a post suggesting that an imminent product update has been preceded by a change to the image displayed on the hardware in question's screen on apple's pages. Well the snowboarder is still on the ibook on the ibook page, but, the irish online apple store has a Summer buying guide '05 http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObj...zQX3K2FK50M3P/0.0.11.1.0.6.23.1.0.1.0.0.0.1.0 in which the ibook screenshot is of a surfer.

At straws clutching I am.

The pic with the surfer is indeed interesting, also how the new summer line up shows pic sof the updated iPod and an iBook it surely means they will be the two main summer products therefore a iBook speed bump must be coming our way!!!

ShadOW :)

Oh man, those are very good clues as to a possible upgrade tomorrow. Trying very hard not to get too excited because of the possible letdown (the same letdown i have already experienced numerous times in the last couple of months), but alas, i will not give up hope and i will not settle for an out of date iBook. For those of you recommending to just forget the iBook and go with the Powerbook, ask me for my address so that you can send me the extra $500+ to pay for the difference.

Anyone know what time this event is supposed to happen tomorrow? Tomorrow, tomorrow, you're only a day away.

...it would be nice if they reduced the price of moth model lines....may bring a powerbook within my reach :)

The surfer is also on Finland's Apple Store, i guess most Europe's stores have it. With the new iPod right next to it, it would be weird if this new Summer shopping guide would have the newest Apple prouct update on the other side and on the other side the product that has the longest time since last upgrade....

I've been trying to hold off my Mum from buying a new laptop in the hope of a new iBook being released. She's getting inpatient now, if they don't come soon she's going to get a Dell

Como on Apple, you’re going to loose customers!

...In any case, I'm leaning towards buying a dell. I somehow can't get myself to buy the ibook in its current state; it feels like I would be paying more for less.

Well, <sarcasm> you had better check www.dellrumors.com to make sure you get the latest updates </sarcasm>.

Bought an iBook

Hi all:

After reading through this thread on a daily basis for about 3 weeks, I think, I've pulled the trigger. Enough waiting, already! and off I went to the local Apple Store. As I sit here waiting for my iBook to drain its battery (is this not one of the more difficult things in modern life - getting a new electronic item and having to wait to charge it up overnight and then drain it back down before being able to play with it), I'm extremely happy.

What happens if Apple releases a new iBook tomorrow? I've got 2 weeks to return it and pay a 10% re-stocking fee. then I'll grab the new model. $100 - that's worth it for me, rather than wait ONE MORE WEEK. I don't know how some of you have the strength to wait for months for updates (but more power to you - you'll get the latest). Me, I'll be doing *stuff* today and couldn't be happier. But, again, if you can wait, great for you.

For all those other people who want a different opinion - go and buy an iBook now would be my suggestion. It's last year's technology you say? It works great and you'll have fun. Always waiting is a bore - technology's supposed to be fun for me, anyway.

If they update the model after my 2 week's grace period, so be it. I'll accept that and know that I've had 2 weeks of productivity (ahem, my word for fooling around with a computer). In a year or year and a half's time, I'll probably sell it and upgrade to a mactel.

Anyway, my two cent's worth. I'll probably sign back on in 2 weeks saying "Crap!!" Oh well....

Everyone who's waited as long as me (since January) remember, HOLD ON AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!!!

What exactly is it that you have been waiting for, for six months?

They just have to be upgraded tomorow! To long of a wait and Apple would be kind of being a "scumbag" for not updating the iBooks before School starts, tons of schools use the iBooks for there computers, and Apple to update them AFTER school starts would just be foolish IMO.

Hey... where almost to 1000 on this thread!

Damn I didn't think this thread would be this long before the iBooks were to be updated, this just shows there might be more than just a minor update to the iBooks! ;) :)
