Everything has been updated but the Ibook... so much speculation... WWDC, Paris, some random Tuesday, maybe Tuesday of WWDC, a Tuesday in Paris, E3, Starwars Launch... at this point I think we might as well just toss a coin... :(

Come on 12" iBook update with 64 MB VRAM and a Core Image capable video card with 512 MB RAM on the motherboard. Come on. I know you want to.

I need a new iBook so I can buy one for my wife for her birthday that is coming up very, very soon. Don't want to disappoint her now do we?

There's been talk about waiting till Paris. Isn't that September though? Surely Apple won't wait 11 months to update the things!!

If its at WWDC it will be a form factor change.

I cannot see it strech any longer. How can apple justify having a computer in its lineup that is not fully compatible with Tiger!

I agree. Especially because the iBook is one of their best sellers. Apple makes far more from selling iBooks than from Powerbooks (they were producing more iBooks last year than PowerBooks). If they hold it back any longer, they might actually start to lose some sales (albeit not much), because the iBook is major entry point for switchers since more and more people seem to be suffering from the iPod Halo effect and more and more of these people are going with laptops for the mobility and freedom since we live in a high tech world where many people like having their digital life traveling with them.

But alas...we continue to wait...unfortunately...hopefully not for much longer...

I would say form factor change and colors are a BIG maybe. It will remain plastic, possibly still double injected. Apple would not make a metal ibook, it needs to be destinguished from P'books.

I dont think it will be a big form factor change.

I think it will keep it's white look.

I just hope they dont put that glare inducing sheen on the screen :\

I think it's unlikely that they will offer a choice of colours, because it would be difficult for retailers to maintain inventory of all the available colours and people would start moaning when they are unable to get the colour of their choice. This may even be the reason why the old clamshell G3 iBooks had their formfactor changed after such a short period of time!

Having said that, I believe that a formfactor change is likely at the next update because the novelty of the iBook is a good buying incentive for many people. The iBook is a product that needs to remain 'in vogue'. When I finally replace my 2.5 year old iBook G3, I don't want a new machine that looks exactly the same as the old one!

I can't imagine what the next iBook might look like, but I've no doubt that apple will come up with something that none of us could have forseen.

Are there any rumours pointing to a possible Widescreen transformation for the iBook? That would be one great change.

With the colored iMacs for example, you couldn't always order the color you wanted, unless you were ordering about 50 of them!

With it being so close to WWDC and still not even any rumors about the new ibooks I have come to the conclusion that it must be either, that there really is going to be no update, or a very very minimal update to the line at WWDC or even the expo, however more likely there is going to be a major upgrade as in maybe a form factor change, cpu speed bumps, fsb speed bumps, a 64mb vram core image capable card, higher resolution screen, bigger hd, 512mb of ram on the motherboard, BTO option of superdrive among other possible changes. And the silence is due to the fact that this new ibook is going to cut into the 12 inch powerbook(who would buy the powerbook when the ibook is going to have almost as many features for around $500 less) market thus apple wants to sell as many as they can before than.
Hopefully that’s it and we get some nice new ibooks at WWDC because I really want one. :)

I think we will definitely see iBooks at WWDC because otherwise they would have been updated with the iMacs & eMacs. As for the people who say they will be too close to the Powerbooks, there is a good chance of a PBook update as well.
I think that the reason why we have seen no rumours about it is that maybe Apple have found their leak. They wouldn't just ignore the fact that they had a leak and have probably been searching for the problem for a while and finally found it.

dont really keep up all that much on iBook rumors, have no interest in one.. but with the news reports of Apple making contracts with manufacturers for a widescreen iBook, and you guys saying WWDC would mean a form factor.. i'd think they'd stay white but just go widescreen. i dunno, makes sense to me. year of HD remember

this wait for ibooks is maddening. i'm upgrading the computers in my wife's company to 2 new imacs and an ibook. can't do it piecemeal because it will entail a major shift in programs and OS...arrrggghhh!

might order the imacs right at the end of may to get the free ipod shuffles from powermax and order the ibook if/when it comes out at wwdc. if it doesn't come out then...screw it, i'll buy whatever's on the shelf.

i'm hoping they'll release new ibooks before wwdc and new pbooks at wwdc. hey, i guy can wish can't he?

Just read this thought in another thread...

If they DO announce new iBooks, what are the chances of them having them in stock relatively close to the release date? Say they announce them on June 6th...I need to have my $100 rebate sent in BY June 26th. Don't want to cut it close.

Well, actually, you don't. You have to send it in within 30 days of your purchase date. So if you purchased it the 6th and it shipped by the 25th, you'd have until early July to get it in.

I think the 14" iBook will have 512mb of RAM and the 12" just 256...... like the new eMacs. So don't get too excited. :p

Asqy-- what are you referring to-- is apple putting some sort of glare-inducing sheen on powerbook screens? I have not heard of this gripe before--

ibook needs an upgrade

ibook line need something new.
what do you think, new Powerbooks with 13 inches 16/9 screen, and no more ibooks but tBooks (tablet books), as we have seen in one of apple newest patents.

imagine a 12 inch ibook screen and a hard cover detachable with trackpad and thin wireless keyboard.

G4, 32vram and ipod-mini like case.

just dreaming...

ready to change my G3 600mhz ibook...
