I really think this tuesday will be the one, if not definatly the tuesday after.... alhough i would put money on a new iBook this tuesday, as there are a number of indicators towards a 24th may 2005 release ;)

I was just wondering what indicators you were talking about. I am hoping for the 24th also but I have learned that I have no idea what apple is going to do.

I would also be interested to hear what the indicators are. I have been following all iBook rumors very closely but have heard nothing linking a release to 24th May.

As much as I want the new ibooks to come out this tuesday, they will not beacuse ship time is still same day, when it becomes 5-7 days then will see updates, also the longer we wait the better the new ibooks will be, so heres to some nice new ibooks at WWDC.

Yes.. please give us some more insight into your 'indicators'... cuz i've been lookin to buy an ibook fer a long time... however, i feel like if they launch this week, then the ibooks won't have too many significant improvements... however, if it launches at WWDC, there will be some interesting features like possible wide or color configurations....

wide would be nice... i'd pay extra for that ;)

I have no insider info but I'm starting to think there won't be an update until the powerbook now.

My logic is this:

The ibook wasn't updated with the other lines to make it completely Tiger ready so they're obviously waiting for a proper update. Not just one to make it Tiger-able. But with a proper update comes the problem with Powerbook clashes. So, they'll update the two together. Powerbook is about 60 days from it's average cycle so it's not that unlikely an update of the two will come soon.

Either way, I'm prepared to wait! I'm starting to think the long wait means a good update! (I'm just disregarding the last PowerMac update as a guide of "long updates").

Don't forget that because iBooks were not updated when the Powerbooks were updated earlier this year, the gap between the iBooks and Powerbooks increased as a result. This theoretically means that iBooks could now undergo a minor update without Powerbooks being updated at the same time.

Having said that, I'm inclined to think that iBooks are due for a major overhaul which is unlikely to happen until the next Powerbook update. Personally, I'm not in a hurry to buy, so I'd rather wait a bit longer and enjoy a more significant update. However, I do empathise with others here who desperately want updates ASAP.

LOL........what makes you think that? Remamber the last Powermac and Powerbook updates?

Don't take the shipping data as proof

No, shipping is still showing same day.

When I sent my order thru on the April the 29th, I changed the HD and added BT, shipping went to 1 to 3 days.

It was pushed back twice on shipping. Didn't ship till late on the 11th of the month. So the shipping calculations on the site are not really a good indicator of what is going on right now.

maybe i should stop checking this web site so much, haha.
Me too. I think I'm becoming obsessive, I've even started using WAP on my phone to check this site almost hourly!
Please give us new iBooks Steve! I will love you forever and promise never to buy any more of Bill's stuff.

Would Apple wait a whole year before updating the iBook, just as they did with the eMac? It wouldn't surprise me... the updates for all Apple computers have been VERY slow in coming lately.

Guess i was wrog about hsi tuesday  anyhow now i think we will not see new iBooks for a while, for the following reasons:

If apple are in talks with Intel they would only want to use intel architecture for lower end models (mac mini, ibook) therefore they make us hold out a few months longer and base the new iBooks on a new processor manufactured by intel not IBM, as we know intel are great at making mobile processors and that is what is needed for the current mac laptops.

Aswell as this if you look at todays iBooks they still represent superb value and are great machines to look at and they pack enough of a punch to do most thinks someone buying a low end laptop would expect.

The other thing is that us here at MR.com are obsessed with mac/apple and there updates the average apple buyer even though they are dedicated to buying apple over MS would not have a clue that iBooks are due for an update, they have no perception of time frames or product life cycles of apple products, so in there eyes an upgrade is not needed at all they couldnt really care less as they are happy to buy the current model, and even if a new model came out the next day they wouldnt realise unless you pointed it out to them.

These updates mean alot to the people on this board but that is only a tiny minority of apple's customers therefore macintosh are in no rush to release a new iBook.

Although my predictions are for a new iBook and Mac mini to be released in July.

Peace,

SHadow
