In Germany, going from 1TB Hard drive to 1TB Fusion is 120€! 120€!!!!! For 24GB of flash memory!!!! 120 f****n Euros!!!! Tim Cook is crazy. He is putting user experience behind margins in almost every product....
I'm not going to bother watching the video, 5400rpm drives are slow, slow, slow, if you think otherwise I'll sell you my ex 1TB drive from my late 2012 Mini.Wow, so much whining over a 5400rpm drive. And I thought Apple users understood that it's not always about specs.
Here's a YouTube video that should explain why 7200 drives aren't always faster and how 5400 drives aren't without its benefits...
Unfortunately this was always going to happen, the less competition they have the greedier they get. Fortunately, I'm more of a Windows guy than an Apple guy, I pick and choose computers, phones and tablets based on price and performance, not just because Apple makes it.In Germany, going from 1TB Hard drive to 1TB Fusion is 120€! 120€!!!!! Well said, hopefully more people will start thinking like you, there are other much cheaper alternatives, Apple is using their name to sell stuff at huge markups to the unsuspecting public, that starter new iMac is a joke.I think that if anyone who has been paying the slightest bit of attention over the last (oh let's say FOUR YEARS, oddly enough) has not detected a marked change in Apple's approach/strategy, then they are simply dull or blind. Things have changed. Period. Apple is not Apple any longer, it's that simple. They are a marketing machine. They move product, not quality. It's all numbers now, and they are, for the moment, still doing exceptionally well. But, I suspect, not for long. When it becomes apparent that the emperor has no clothes. What's the difference between Apple and Samsung, at this point, beyond market cachet? Fashion. That's why the Apple Watch is the most Apple of all the New-Apple manifestations. And it's sad, and a little depressing. Like many other lemmings, I have loved this company for a long time, for idiot reasons. But no more. No more kool-aid, thanks. The new (as of today) offerings are a joke. This is Tim Cook's Apple. Enjoy it.
I still think the iPhone, iPad, and retina MacBook Pro are the best in their respective classes. The MacBook Air is excellent also but the screen might hold it back from being truly best in class. I think considerably less of the Mac Pro, MacBook retina, Mac mini, and now, sadly, iMac. The watch... I dunno, it might be the best in class, but to me it's still kinda a useless class. What's the difference between Apple and Samsung, at this point, beyond market cachet? Fashion. I love to be able to slip in new batteries and use the trackpad and keyboard asap.
Thanks, but no, thanks.
That's what happen when you promote a COO to the position of CEO...maybe this is the way Steve Jobs wanted since nobody after him will be as good as him.In Germany, going from 1TB Hard drive to 1TB Fusion is 120€! 120€!!!!! The Mac desktop is contributing much much less profit than Mac laptops.. that's why the crazy prices.I still think the iPhone, iPad, and retina MacBook Pro are the best in their respective classes. I just don't have to, nor want to depend on Apple to buy batteries.

"This forum is full of conjecture regarding what Steve Jobs would or would not do if he were still here."
And then you finish up by saying..... "Steve Jobs would say if it's too expensive for you, buy something else"
Recognize what you did there?
I agree it's the best Apple has managed to come up with so far. However the Industry Standard by Qualcomm is simply brilliant, returns a full charge in mere minutes, and is by far a very superior technology. The two minute charge to get nine hours of battery life for the Magic Mouse is pretty cool.
The significant comparison would be 5400 vs 7200. A 7200 spinner is a tolerable device for most people.

Same manufacturer, same capacity. About $22 price difference in everyday consumer retail price. Apple's paying less, of course, which also means the differential would be less.
It is indeed. If your requirements call for more or faster storage, you simply select one of the BTO options. Easy. There are many people with modest needs where the base machine works just fine and thus pay a lower price.
Is watching the video going to make my 5400hdd go faster, I don't think so. The last computer I bought with a spinner was the 2012 Mac Mini, I don't want to learn about ancient technology thanks very much. If I do want to learn about ancient tech, I'll buy a 1.6ghz iMac with a 1TB JDD.If you watched the video, you would've learned that there's more to hard disk speed than just RPMs. But why bother to take a few minutes to educate yourself when you have such solid anecdotal evidence?![]()

As long as Apple people keep forking over the money, Apple will gladly take it, start rebelling and buying off other manufacturers and I'm sure they'll come back down to earth.
What am I saying I must be dreaming, that's never going to happen.
There was a great comparison one time benchmarking a Mac 512 against whatever the modern machine was at the time. Could have been a G5, or maybe an early Intel. The catch was that it was benchmarks doing things like booting, launching applications to write email, calculating a spreadsheet of modest size. The 512 held its own, and dominated on some. It's somewhat disingenuous a comparison though.
They say that the processor is thousands of times faster, but in reality, there is not much difference in speed for most people. Word processing is much the same as it was back in 1998. It's really only those who work with video/graphics or play games that have seen significant improvement.
Re storage: they say that storage is 750 times greater, yet the max storage of 3TB hasn't changed for several years. If storage had doubled each year, we would now be seeing 7,864TB being offered for the high-end iMac.That's going on 60GB in 1998.
It's actually surprising how little computers have changed in the past twenty years. Really, the big improvement has been in phones and tablets.
What an iconic design that first iMac was, though. I still own one from 2001. And really, that iMac was what started Apple's revival off. Thank you, Steve Jobs and Jony Ive.
Looks like Microsoft may be on your horizon. As soon as someone makes products as well as apple, both hardware and software included, then I will consider them! Yes Apple charge a premium because they make the best products. Customers who prefer quality pay for quality. Unfortunatley I think many less tech savvy people will get home with their brand new iMacs and wonder why it is so slow, then be pointed to the fact that they have a 5400 rpm hard drive and this experience may turn many customers off apple.
