that was his point. he's saying that apple needs to focus on the pro line.

Exactly, this was a Consumer type event, not a Pro Event. Next Major Upgrades we'll see to the Pro Line will probably be WWDC '06. With Minor Updates between now and then.

This event today, was definetely worth the Media's and Consumers Attention. I've actually just bought everything hardware related that Apple Announced today, been a while (LONG while) since I've last done that.

actually, I am waiting untill the iMac comes with a TV tuner, and has DVR capabilitys. Right now I am in a toss between an iMac and a Windows Media PC. I am not sure if I want to also purchase the third party apps and hardware from elgato.
You could always go for this sleek sexy Vaio (only 11" thin and almost 3x the weight of the iMac!)
http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...age=static/lc/vaio/desktops/v_tvpc/index.isml

Edit: but it has a card reader - Memory Stick or Memory Stick Duo only.
Edit2: only $2854 at CompUSA for the 20" model: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=51309729&pfp=BROWSE

OK, I'm kind of confused.......

I just ordered the 17" iMac thru the EDU Store

Upgraded to a Gig of RAM and there was supposedly no cost increase.... Debit Card got charged 1,307 (Incudes Tax and Overnight Shipping), But I just checked my order status page and now it's at 1,399.

I shouldn't be charged for a mistake apple made on the ordering page? I just went to check and it still says 1,199 total even with 1gb of RAM.

Should I give them a Call?

It never hurts to call.

Crap!

I just bought an Imac about 2 weeks ago.. but it just got delivered today. In fact I'm using it right now. Is it really worth it to return it. Can I return it? I used an edu discount and got a free ipod but that offer already ended. What should I do?

You have 14 days to return.
Since you are still in that period...I might do it just so you have the latest and greatest. Though....they will probably charge a restocking fee if its not damaged...sometimes the rep you get will waive that fee if they like your sob story :)

Since you got an iPod free with a purchase, they may have you return that too.

Yep. $1,199 with 1 GB...which is weird they don't had any price increase for the extra RAM.

A very impressive update Apple! I can't wait to take a look at these in stores. I'm very intrigued by the updated GPU and PCI-E....

Can't wait to see some benchmarks! :D

So how do i make a return? I'm not exactly sure and they'll accept open boxes? Can I return it to my local apple store. I just checked the specs on this new one and in my opinion it seems to be 1000 times greater. I'm very pissed off right now. Is the 14 days of return to open boxes and when does that 14 days start? Because apple shipped it to Sameday and then i just got it today? does it start 12 days ago when apple shipped it to me or 0 days ago when i got it? Thanks

Front Row, Photo Booth, and the Apple Remote concerns

I think the Remote is bluetooth and Infared, bluetooth for the Mac, and infared for the iPod docks. This way Apple doesn't have to make two different remotes. I'm sure you'll be able to use this bluetooth remote on another Mac, I would guess at most you'd need a driver for it or something. The Apple remote and Front Row would be a nice combination to sell togeather. Photobooth should come with all iSights and should be downloadable for free (or at the very least free for all previous iSight owners), I would like Front Row for free also.

If they aren't free I could imagine people going to the Apple store and getting a copy myself, weather Apple likes it or not. I hope some people will be able to see weather these applications can be transported to antoher Mac without trouble, same with the remote. I don't think you'd need Bluetooth 2.0, I mean 1.1 should work find as long as it's configured correctly.

I know I'm sounding negative here but, it seems that newer programs or features that can be used on other models are being only avaliable for a certain computer, a new one for that matter. Hopefully this will change. I believe it's just silly for someone with the last revision iMac that is 2 months old unable to use these new programs, I see nothing stopping them from working unless Apple puts something in such as "This application/device is not supported on this computer." I really hope they don't, they can make a lot of money by selling these add-ons, although we can always hope those apps will come free or part of a new version of iLife.

You have to make a return based on where you bought.
If bought off Apple.com, you call 800-MY-APPLE
If bought from retail store, you return there.

They will accept returns for any reason. They charge the open box fee if its not defective, but like I said...sometimes they will waive that fee.

I think the return period starts from when you actually receive it. (They can look at the delivery confirmation).

Don't be pissed off, just call the Apple Store. They have the answers you seek. Just give them a call. They will accept an open box but they will charge you restocking if you are just returning it because you changed your mind... unless you beg or make up some story.

Wrong. It's infared only. The receiver on the iMac is behind the apple logo.

I just checked the EDU store with the 17" and yeah it is no charge, but on the 20" it is $90. Just must be a glitch or something.

The upgrade to 2 Gig of ram is now $1200?? What gives?

Actually it is correct. Since the new iMac only has one user RAM slot, in order to get it to 2.5GB, one must install 1 stick of 2GB RAM. The price of the RAM is actually the correct price. If you look at this link at Crucial, a 2GB stick is $1210.99 but they has 10% off so it is $1089.99.

http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.Asp?IMODULE=CT25672AB40E

If I were to get one right now, I would get it with 1.5GB preinstalled for $180 over the base with EDU discount.

So basiclly there are two different type of remotes put out today?

A bluetooth remote for controlling the universal dock and an IR remote that comes shipped with the new iMac?

kanaka said:
Good question. I think it's Bluetooth, because the tech specs don't say anything about IR, but the new iMac does have a built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) module.

Do you think the recent BT upgrade in the mac mini is just coincidental or will they be selling a Frontrow accessory package for other macs soon? I don't see any technical barrier to it.

iMac to be the new Home Entertainment Center

I gotta admit- I have not read much on this thread- so call me out if it has already been posted, but...

I have been saying (mostly to myself) for a long time that someday the computer / TV / stereo experience will be combined into one device.

I can see ( I can speculate) that Apple is in the best position ever to do this.

Apple because they would not be eating up any of their DVD player sales (like Sony or other manufacturers would do), nor would they hurt other prodcut lines. If anything they would be integrated even closer.

Apple because they can manufacture hardware and create software.

Apple because the new iMac design and added remote lend itself to TV. When I first read the feature set of the new iMac- I said (to myself) if I could watch TV on it - I'd replace my clunky entertainment center in the living room with a slick wall mounted iMac, and a chair in front of it for computing.

I hope this happens !!! I really want to get rid of the entertainment center ! And yeah- it would be a smaller TV than I have now- but so many other advantages !!!! :D

Maybe a stupid question, but all new Macs are still Classic-compatible, right?

Because I want to get a brand new Classic-compatible machine before the Intel switch so I can still use my OS9 software (classic games, mostly) into the future.

sorry but no your wrong

There is only one slot which sucks I called Apple to confirm this. 512 on the board and one open slot.

Yes, very pathetic upgrade - faster processors, faster RAM, new video card, built-in iSight, larger hard drives, Mighty Mouse included, Front Row... man, nothing there at all.

Oh, and you are wrong, there isn't only one slot, there are two. The iMac can support up to 2.5 GB of RAM now. :p
