Tim Cook will be proud of the new 2020 iMac.

The carbon dioxide has noticeably reduced while producing it due to overall dimensions are smaller and continue to be as light as possible.

Super hot. Feels exactly right for this event. So spot on. Id love to see something new like that front facing camera update.

There’s so much potential here.

Maybe a Magic Mouse with a charging port that makes more sense? Maybe a stand-alone Magic Keyboard that has backlight?

Face ID along with a higher resolution camera?

I can’t wait to see this thing.

MacRumors mockup of iPad Pro-style iMac

According to Dickson, the new iMac will have "iPad Pro design language" and thinner bezels similar to those seen on Apple's Pro Display XDR that accompanied the new Mac Pro last year.

Apple nailed it with the current iPad Pro design. If the rumors turn out to be true that the iPhone 12 is getting the same makeover, the unified design across all the product lines is going to look very nice.

It's the spiritual successor to the iPhone 4's design language. 😏

in the 2000’s, Apple had a dedicated display line - 20”, 23”, and 30” displays that were top of the line. In 2008, Apple ditched the line for a 24” LED display then the 27” LED display, both matched the newly redesigned iMacs as Apple used the same LED panels inside a display enclosure. I wonder if Apple may produce a display using the same panels again as an option for those who don’t need a $6000 display. It would be cost effective and in line with Apple’s recent return to product lines while meeting consumer demands.

It makes sense for Apple to scale down the price with new 23”, 27” Apple Display accessories.

In fact, that market is huge due to notebook represent a significant portion of mac sales.

The price on these things are going to drop significantly. Current 27" starts at $1,800. New models will cost only $300*

Looks promising but 3 questions we need to ask:

Soldered SSD?

Soldered RAM?

Noise?
Going off past history I would say soldered SSD. I’m afraid it will be soldered Ram, but my last iMac wasn’t so I hope I’m wrong there. Noise would be mostly related to cooling and I’m afraid that either it’s going to be quiet(er) but hot or noisier but cool. As I replied earlier I don’t know how big of a difference an ARM processor will be heat wise. Or the new video card.

I'm wondering if this is what Steve Jobs ment with "The next transition is going to be very uncomfortable for a lot of people".. Not an exact quote but I remember him saying that during an interview.

I think he meant: “I am going to die soon and leave my company in the hands of Tim Cook. This transition will be uncomfortable as you watch the wonderful place I created spiral into oblivion.”

Quiet. That’s my one wishlist item.

Everybody seems to be worried about FaceTime cameras and bezel width, but if it sounds like a hurricane when I do anything taxing, I won’t notice either of those because it will spend most of its time turned off.

The best part... no more Fusion Drive! Starting with macOS High Sierra, macOS runs like crap on a 5400RPM hard drive so unless you have one of the few iMacs with a 7200RPM hard drive in the Fusion Drive, you can count on laggy performance from time to time. I had that issue, and no erase and reinstall would ever solve it. I finally decided to replace the tiny SSD with a 1TB NVMe based SSD. I left in the 1TB hard drive to use as additional storage.

I’ve been thinking lately that my next Mac will in all likelihood be an iMac. Just unsure about whether it’ll be worth waiting for Apple’s switch to ARM processors next year.

People working from home are learning that laptops aren’t ergonomically sound for long periods (which is why I just purchased a stand for my MacBook Pro), and require an external keyboard/mouse anyway to be comfortably used at a desk. I’d purchase a Magic Keyboard and Mouse as well but it’s a bit redundant if I’m going to be purchasing an iMac soon.

I’ve been saying for years that my iPhone can handle 99% of my mobile computing needs, so I have no reason to transport my Mac. In fact, I’d be more likely to purchase an iPad if I had an iMac.

Please let this be true!!! I just can’t justify a new iMac purchase with the current design given I already own a 2011 and 2013 and desperately need a new one. No way am I dropping a few grand on something that doesn’t look any different. No chin and small bezels is what I’ve been dreaming of for years
