Well they could re-use and follow their design language and just stuff it into a Pro Display XDR package (though that backside ain't cheap so maybe a not-as-slick-lower-cost process there)... oh and they could make it compatible with the $1000 stand to milk some fanboys to pick up some crazy extra margin :)

My maxed-out, mid-2011 27" has been repaired several times, the last time at my expense for ~ $700 due to a bad graphics card.

However, I was able to install a 2 TB SSD myself for WAAAAY less than Apple charges. it is stuck on High Sierra, but I'm okay with that.

All that said, that'll be my last iMac, and possibly my last Mac.

The iPad is the future, and it is now more than capable to handle my consumer-grade iLife.

Still, I'm curious what post-Jony Ive Apple will come up with, and whether or not this machine will become the "Macintosh" and run on A-series and/or iPadOS.

If Apple want to transition OSX over to ARM I don’t see why they don’t just build both Intel and ARM into the first few generations of machines to enable 100% backwards compatibility?

Ahh here we go! Time for iMac lovers to feast. Now I just have to figure out what to do with my 2019 27”..... Maybe I’ll hold onto it until next year.
I would expect to get a minimum of at least five years service from any computer I bought before I even considered replacing it.

This is my guess for the new iMac!

If Apple updates the iMac to something more similar in looks to the iPad Pro, it will definitely be something I jump on to replace my office‘s 2013 iMac 21”. Not that it’s not running fine still today, 7 years after first putting it into service, but the lower res screen does get to me, and I find myself using my 12.9” iPad Pro more every day, in large part because of eye fatigue I get when using the iMac.

It would certainly be a great combination having the updated iMac for the office, and iPad Pro for work travel.

I hope Face-ID will be integrated

no they wil use the 720p camera as it’s a tradition. You don’t want to get away from traditions.
Have you ever thought about the required bandwidth for 4K FaceTime transmission of 20 participants all living in small villages around the world? Yes, now you are smarter... Apple just thinks practically...
