Looks promising. I'll probably wait for the next iteration. Apple's track record on first gen products/redesigns is not that great.
Not only that, but Apple usually introduces some compelling new hardware feature in the 2nd iteration of a new model, inducing buyer's remorse in early adopters. Purchasers of the first iMac 5k missed out on P3 wide color displays. Ouch!

No-one mentioned 4K. 1080p would suffice.
Yuck! No way! I'd never give up the stunning and immersive clarity of 4k.

They took a brilliant idea and pushed it too far. The first generations seemed well balanced, but then they made the SSDs too small. I suspect it’s because most users only need less than a TB of storage so the math of the fusion drive starts to break down. In my case, I have several TB of storage that I obviously don’t need all at once, so a good 256GB or 512GB SSD fused with rotating media would work well for me if they made such a thing.

You can brew your own, for sure. Years ago when they first came out, I had a Mac Mini with a spinning hard drive. SSDs were still crazy expensive back then, but I bought one, opened up the Mini and used a drive expansion kit from OWC I think to install the SSD alongside the HDD (tight fit but it worked), and then did a bunch of Terminal commands I read about to turn them into one Fusion Drive. It worked really well and added years to the usable life of that Mini. In fact, it's still working today, like 7 years later, as a spare Mac at my wife's office.

Understand. Currently even 1080 res is reaching its limits. Internet connections worldwide are still far too unstable. I have everyday experience with it. Even Apple’s dynamic transmission codec has achieved only little improvement to overcome that issues.

Have you ever thought about the required bandwidth for 4K FaceTime transmission of 20 participants all living in small villages around the world? Yes, now you are smarter... Apple just thinks practically...

And have you ever thought about how a 4K camera can be used at lower resolutions when bandwidth is too tight?

Super hot. Feels exactly right for this event. So spot on. Id love to see something new like that front facing camera update.

WWDC is shaping up to see some significant Mac news, starting with word earlier today that Apple will be beginning its shift to its own Arm-based processors, and now leaker Sonny Dickson is claiming that Apple will be introducing a redesigned iMac at the event.

According to Dickson, the new iMac will have "iPad Pro design language" and thinner bezels similar to those seen on Apple's Pro Display XDR that accompanied the new Mac Pro last year. The iMac will unsurprisingly feature the custom T2 chip that has made way across the rest of the Mac lineup to integrate several security and controller functions.

Dickson also says the revamped iMac will include graphics processors from AMD's Navi family introduced last year, and will go all-flash on the storage front with the discontinuation of the hybrid Fusion Drive system that has paired a smaller SSD with a larger traditional hard drive to balance speed and capacity.

Apple's iMac hasn't been updated in over a year, so it's certainly due for an update. Reliable leaker CoinX claimed in March that an iMac update was coming "soon," but hasn't shared any additional information on it since then.

Meanwhile, Intel announced new "Comet Lake" processors in late April that would be appropriate for the iMac, although we haven't heard specifically which processors Apple plans to include in the updated iMac.

Finally, an April rumor claimed that Apple is planning to introduce a lower-priced 23-inch iMac in the second half of this year, which has led to some confusion around timing for any iMac release. It remains to be seen if this 23-inch model is arriving at WWDC, and if so, what overall changes we may see to the size options considering the iMac is currently offered in 27-inch and 21.5-inch sizes.

What exactly is meant by 'iPad Pro Design Language??'

Oh great, finally an iMac with a rear camera, so I can pick it up and scan my documents, oh and also lend it out to my parents so they can hold it up at weddings to discretely capture the moment. :p

Maybe, just maybe, I will upgrade my 2011 model that is still going strong.
I just received a new iMac yesterday, if the redesign happens on 27”. I’ll have no choice but to issue a return. Will be tight, but doable provided they show it the very first day.

I'll order one the second it's released. My current iMac is from autumn 2010 and has been with me through getting married and our first two kids. During quarantine it's my 8 year old's homeschooling computer where he does his homework, Google Classroom and Hangouts. My work computer is a 13" MBP and it's looking like working from home might be permanent so a more powerful desktop sounds like just the thing. I really hope the screens are 27" or above. 30"-32" would be ideal. I haven't been this excited for a computer in a LONG time.

Now would also be a GREAT time to refocus FaceTime with so many people having remote meetings.

You have several days from the day you requested the return till when you must ship it.
If you change your mind you don't have to ship it and the return will cancel itself once it reaches maturity day.
You're good.

1) I am excited to see the specs as have been holding off on buying new Mac for years now (partially my own indecisiveness, partially being stuck in the middle of an update cycle, etc). So far waiting has proven agonizing and worth it. The 'ARM arriving imminently' rumor - if true - makes things easier.

2) If the update to the external design/appearance is significant, thousands of movies and TV shows that feature the previous/current aluminum iMac could immediately look a bit more dated. Pre-iOS7 iPhones for example - though any movie with an iPhone still feels mostly 'modern'-ish compared to that crazy flip phone world. This is not a problem at all but will be interesting effect if the design is noticeably different (ie - like the artist mockup seen in the article) .

in the 2000’s, Apple had a dedicated display line - 20”, 23”, and 30” displays that were top of the line. In 2008, Apple ditched the line for a 24” LED display then the 27” LED display, both matched the newly redesigned iMacs as Apple used the same LED panels inside a display enclosure. I wonder if Apple may produce a display using the same panels again as an option for those who don’t need a $6000 display. It would be cost effective and in line with Apple’s recent return to product lines while meeting consumer demands.

Reading about the ARM transition in an earlier article, I think this might be a must buy if it’s the last generation of Intel Macs. I used to be an early adopter, but I’m less so now. By the time this one grows old, I’m sure the ARM Macs will be just fine.
