If true, this may be the first time in years I actually take the provided cable out of the box.

Have to see if this pans out. This won't work with all the included 5w Apple iPhone chargers out there (they're USB-A to lightning), Apple cited everyone having those as the reason for dropping chargers from the iPhone 12 box.

You'll have to buy a new USB-C iPhone charger if you want a standalone charger for the 12 (assuming you don't have an Android one on hand). What a joke (the original reason given for dropping chargers from the 12 box).

It's a slap in the face for those of us who still choose to sync to our Macs using a cable. The photo/video USB 2 syncing speed in 2020 is an embarrassment and a clear push to get everyone on the cloud. Sorry but I'm not about to hand over a lifetime of pictures to a company that will charge me $ to just store them, and to expose me to hacks. This is not what I signed up for.

3. There is no evidence for this. USB-C seems perfectly robust on MacBooks, iPads, and Android phones.

The USB C ports on my MacBook Pro have been a nightmare to deal with.

I would love everything to be standardized and only use one cable type, but the idea of USB C coming to the iPhone does make me really nervous for exactly this reason.

Fingers crossed that the iPhone 13 (2021) comes with USB-C. I’m not ready to give up having a physical connector, but I am ready for the majority of my devices to use the same cord.

braided cables are nice from a durability standpoint. I’m just a little sad it’s sticking with Lightning.

had Apple made Lightning an open source connector without its ridiculous licensing, it might have been a better choice. Proprietary cords just cause problems on the most commonly used devices. Lightning has had a nice run. Time to end it.

Unbelievable, such innovation.
OMG OMG, can’t wait, whee whee.

What really is the point of your post? Is it somehow improper for Apple to improve an accessory? Do we really have to subject any such improvement to an "innovation" test? Aren't minor improvements in the things we use worthwhile even if they don't represent "innovation"? Apple has never claimed that everything it does is innovative, and no one holds other companies to this ridiculous standard.

Nightmare how? I've been using a USB-C MacBook Pro since 2017 with zero issues relating to reliability or robustness. The only (very minor) issue I have had is the tendency for the plug to slip out of the port slightly and disconnect if you're moving the laptop around a lot. But I've had similar problems on Lightning devices too.

So still Lightning, no 120 hz, no mmwave 5g
***** Apple.

Why? Nobody is forcing you to upgrade or buy anything. Use what works best for you. There are plenty of other phones that will have those features.
Okay, so here's what I don't understand about Apple not providing a power brick this year:

The rationale is that most people already have them so it would just create more waste... Okay, that makes sense. But the cable they're packing this year is lighting to USB-C... Don't the vast majority of iPhone and iPad owners probably have USB-A charging bricks that came with previous devices? Only people with iPad Pros and certain model Macbooks will have a USB-C charger.

I'm hoping that the iPad Air 4 will be available before the iPhone 12, and I intend to get both, but if the Air doesn't come first, I don't own a single USB-C charging brick.

This, they should have transitioned to USB-C on the brick back when they went all-in on the Mac line up and then at least more people would actually have the right charger at this point.

I feel bad for people that went all out installing USB wall plugs now that USB-C is taking over.
I'm one of those people, please don't feel bad for me. They can be replaced with USB-C ones when the time is right. The thing with technology is that its always moving, if you never jump on you will be forever waiting for just the right time but there will never be just the right time.

honestly... theirs no point to switch to USBC for the phone other than for convenience.. at least with the iPads they can say for this or that.. but for a phone. Why lose this money maker? They make millions off of a cable a year.

If Apple want to actually be courage’s and reduce electronic waste.
Make the iPhone USB-C and allow the Apple Watch to be compatible with Qi chargers.

Until then this is nothing more than penny pinching wrapped up under the guise of environmentalism.

They should aim for a one cable one charger philosophy.

At any given time 3 out of the 4 ports have so much crud in them that cables won't plug all the way in. Keeping them clean proves to be a full time job in a way lightening ports never seem to need. Not sure why... I'd think a port is a port. But the USB C shape has just given me way more problems with that than any other port has.

why usb-c just for 1 year...since from 2021 iphone goes port-less
if they go portless while the majority of vehicles require wired carplay, i think they'll truly have a mess on their hands. from what I understand it's up the the manufacturer to implement wireless carplay, so it's not something apple can fix for all these vehicles prior to 2020, with the majority still not implementing wireless carplay in their latest 2021 offerings.

2020 is not the year to upgrade from 11 Pro, in my opinion, if the omissions you noted turn out to be the case. It think the 11 Pro will be like the 7 Plus, the last of a design cycle with substantial upgrades to the cameras. I'll probably upgrade my 11 Pro next year or the year after. Other than 120Hz refresh, and I think on a small display, it's much less of a big deal than 120Hz on the iPad, the only upgrade worth it to me would be USB-C for the standardization. The iPhone 12 won't take substantially better photos, won't be substantially faster opening apps, and will still have a notch. The display won't be noticeably or maybe even any better. We are running out of reasons to upgrade annually or even bi-annually.
