Apple TV

I think it's funny that there have been so many leaks of the iPad 3 but none of the new Apple TV, assuming there is one.

What if all these rumors are fake and Apple is coming out with a game console!

:D

I had a coworker bring in an iPad and told me that Apple makes software that is too complex. She looked through every option in the settings and couldn't find a way to control her volume. She was angry and ready to sell it.

I showed her the volume controls on the side.

Somehow, one of her rich relatives all buy an iPad 3 for her and it will be wasted.

You should just wait to buy an iPad 3 until she sits with hers and can't figure it out. Then offer to buy it from her for a reduced price. By that time I am sure she will own all the peripherals and will most likely throw them in. Yay for the technologically inept!:D

Of course it has a home button. The home button will NEVER go away -- it's a key element to making iOS devices accessible to individuals with impairments.

Plus, it makes the device easier to use. Don't know how to turn it on? "Oh hey, look a button." Don't know how to get back to the home screen? "Oh hey what does this button do?"

It's such a small thing to consider but it really does make the device easier to use. Heck just look at the Xoom. How long did it take you to figure out how to turn it on the first time you got one in your hands. More than a second or two?

lol. From the down votes on your post, looks like people have forgotten about the Samsung commercial.

And totally forgotten not to leave their sense of humor at the door....too literal minds can kill any jokester...and that's no fun...

Apple are masters of misdirection.

I think the image is of a TV with iOS in 1080p on it.

The question is how did it get there.

Is it from an Apple TV unit running iOS? Or a mobile iOS device sending its display through an Apple TV in 1080p?

Further, how is it controlled? This question leads me to believe that the AppleTV is getting upgraded to 1080p and the image shown is a mobile devices iOS screen displayed wirelessly through AppleTV to an HDTV.

I totally agree. The new Apple TV will allow full screen air play from an iPad3. The picture is actually someone trying to touch a calendar app on the TV, which of course is just a way to get us people insane with rumors.

My TV at home has no buttons on the front. It has places I can touch that activate things like the power, volume, etc. But nothing moves or clicks. And, it's a Samsung (I know, I got it BEFORE they showed their real colors, so to speak). I can see how the home button could be illuminated in the bezel with not physical motion and that would be ok. But again I think I've looked long enough to realize that finger is too small and that we are looking at a regular TV connected to a new Apple TV getting a full screen from the iPad3 via Airplay. They're playing with us!

This looks like sarcasm to me. At least that is what I'm hoping for.
Well, if it's sarcasm, he should have used smileys. That's what they're for.

Sarcasm often isn't communicated well in print, partly when non-native speakers are involved and there are readers from countries where sarcasm is less used.

Without a doubt, tech rumor sites attract a large readership of international folks, so sarcasm in American English should be carefully exercised, again with the use of smileys as a hint of what the writer's intent is. In live verbal communications, there are often enough other cues that helps the listener determine if sarcasm is being used.

Have a nice day.

:D

It's only a matter of time before the home button is dropped. After a while it will seem a bit archaic and redundant. It won't be there forever, although anyone who still says iPad 3 (or whatever Apple decides to name this next release) will be home button-less is hallucinating.

If it looks the same as the iPad 2, how will anyone know I upgraded?

You need to buy a Samsung tablet first, or borrow one. Show it to everyone until everyone is sufficiently sorry for you. Then you replace it with an iPad 3, and not only will people know that you upgraded, it is also a much bigger upgrade than from iPad 2 to iPad 3.

All that they would need to do is add the app store to the appe tv

That is an excellent plan. "Yeah it sucks, I'll buy it off you for $100." ;)

Well, I had a similar problem with an old iPod Touch. Which doesn't have a hardware volume control and no built-in speaker. My wife was listening to some music and looked for the volume control. Obviously she needed me to change it. So she unplugs her headphones and hands the iPod over to me to change the volume. Guess what: No headphones, no volume control. The volume control UI is only present when you have something plugged in.

What a brilliant, original yet pleasant observation.
A simple "I didn't get it " would have been better.

That home button probably broke some hearts out there.

That CPU and SIRI are the biggest questions in my mind. Can't wait to see what arrives; can't wait for the benchmarks.

I find it strange that so many people keep hoping Siri comes to the iPad. This reminds me of the idea of the rear camera being important on the iPad. People made a whole big deal about it at first, but they got one in their hands, took it home, and actually integrated the device in their daily lives they found that a rear camera on a tablet just doesn't make much sense whatsoever.

On a phone, Siri makes sense and is a really nice feature. That's because with a phone, you're mobile with it, you often use it one handed, it's hard to type on, and you very often use it while driving or some other distracting thing with your hands where voice assistance makes more sense.

But in the relaxed, comfortable, environment of lounging around the house or in bed at night where the majority of of iPad use actually occurs (and anyone who owns one knows this already), Siri on a tablet will get about as much use as the rear camera.

Sure you might play around with it at first because of the novelty just like tablet owners did with the rear camera. But the unpracticality of it on a tablet will soon set in.... just like rear cameras.

If you don't believe me, think about all the uses cases advertised for Siri in the Apple commercials. Almost none of them really apply to the situations where people actually use the iPad.

The iPad likely won't have Siri so don't get your hopes up. You wouldn't really be missing anything anyway. Much like the rear cameras on a tablet.

I would definitely use the rear camera a lot more if it wasn't so terrible. There's been many times that I happen to have the iPad in my hand and wanted to take a picture until I opened up the app and realize that the quality is terrible.

That being said I would agree that Siri is not as useful on an iPad. When you're using the iPad that is your main focus, as opposed to the iPhone then you are most likely walking, driving, etc. while using it.

This is my argument as to why Siri will likely never be as useful on an iPad. Im sitting down somewhere so i'll just google that crap haha... bam, done.

I Want the home button to be there... that one of the things that makes this an APPLE device :)
