Why considered that you grip a phone from the sides and not the back?

Your pointer finger naturally lands on the back of the phone, in the upper 1/4 midsection. Having to bring my pointer to the unlock button is an unnatural pose.

This is why the fingerprint reader on many Android phones is in that spot.

Just don’t understand why someone would pick this up over a second hand iPad Pro 11 for roughly the same cost. Fast refresh > A14

If you're referring to 2018 iPad Pro, they're hard to come by now (at least new or Apple refurbs).

And when 2020 iPP's pop up on Apple's refurbished site, I'd get those over the Air.

interesting. Apple said the Air is going to launch in October and now that it is October it is going to launch very soon.

Been using an Air 2 since its Release Date !

The Wi-Fi ONLY version of this new iPad Air is the first one I've considered upgrading to !

It will be released on 10/13 because the free Airpods deal for college students ends on 10/12.

Just because the free AirPods deal ends 10/12 doesn’t mean the new iPads have to wait to release until the 13th. Keep in mind right now Apple only allows the iPad Pro to get free AirPods (only talking iPad, I know Mac purchases can get free AirPods too). They can still limit to just be the iPad Pro even if the new Air was released now, but some may not be too fond of that lol.

With that said, I agree with you, that is likely the case. One can only hope it to be sooner.

Only worth buying if you get the 256GB storage option (64GB just isn’t enough IMO) and at Ā£729 ($749), I still think your better off with an 11 inch pro 128GB option for an extra Ā£40 ($50), or a second hand 2018/2020 one at a cheaper price.

This will give you a decent amount of storage as well as better speakers, screen, microphones, Face ID, cameras etc...

Granted your getting the A14 in the Air, but for marginal single core performance vs the A12Z (which is most likely the only benefit of the Air) it’s a no brainer to get the pro at this point.
agree this model looks like its only designed to prop up Apple's margins and make Tim happy.

I really dont understand why some members are saying that the 64gb does not have enough storage, when we can add usb c external storage easily. Is there something im missing, or is it just the extra step of plugging in the storage that people dont like?
The handling of external storage is sub-par. Many apps - including stock apps - won't access the external storage (think: Photos, Music, Videos etc.). Or not without going to additional steps.

I still think 64GB is decent as a base configuration and for many users. 64GB will hold lots of app, some photos and videos. And many people will be using is as an internet and/or streaming device anyway.

Ok thanks as i have not actually experienced how an ipad pro with usb c actually handles files via usb storage. Ive seen utube videos but thats all (have not been able to use my usb drive on my ipad air 3 as it needs more power).

If it was 120Hz it would have been an instant buy for me. But, with my 10.5 iPad Pro, looking to upgrade, 120Hz is one thing I don't want to lose. So, I think I'll hold onto my iPad for another year and see what next year's Pros bring.

Anyone going from their iPAD pro to this?
I would have if it was 120Hz.

Is it? Being home a lot means no mask a lot. I really haven’t noticed much of a pain with FaceID.
With a tablet, you’ll likely be using it at home most of the time.

It depends on individual circumstances, the job and local restrictions. I will be mostly using my tablet at work and not at home.

I'm surprised they didn't offer pre-order in September to give supply chains a heads up.
They're already pretty darn good at managing supply chains - their bigger concern is optimizing the cycle of "announce -> (pause) -> make available to order -> (pause) -> devices delivered to customers". They've had a lot of time to figure out what intervals for those two pauses result in the most sales.

I'd venture a guess that the interval between ordering and receiving is too long, some customers will think "oh, that's far off, maybe I'll order later", and others order but then have doubts / second thoughts after weeks have gone by, and cancel. A shorter interval there counteracts both of those. But then, I'm not in marketing, so I'm just guessing.

Eh, my pointer finger lands pretty naturally right around where the "power" button is on my iPhone 8. It takes contortions (repositioning the phone in my hand) to get it to the middle back of the phone. So your "Your pointer finger naturally lands..." bit is working from too small of a sample size.

It will be interesting to see if the new Air has 6GB of RAM like this years iPad pros. The extra RAM is one reason I went with the Pro. The processor is only one part of faster performance.

The Air 4 seems positioned well for those who want a laminated screen along with some of the Pro features but would never notice the difference with the lack of ProMotion, quad speakers, etc. I remember when I bought my iPad Pro 10.5. It was a quite a nice upgrade over my iPad Air, but for what I use a tablet for (almost all my work is on a 2018 15" MBP), the Pro 10.5 simply wasn't that big a deal. I've enjoyed it, but if the iPad 8 had a laminated screen, I would think twice before ordering an Air 4. The non-laminated screen is what I would not want to return to.

Here in the UK the offer ends 10/29 so hopefully iPad air will qualify as the offer isn't very clear as I thought it was just the iPad Pro ?

I'm holding off until the next set of announcements because there could be a more affordable 128Gb Air announced and Apple need to differentiate the 11-inch Pro line from the new Air. The current 11-inch Pro is faster and more capable than the Air 4 in spite of the processor hike but lack of clarity is to Apples advantage.

The lack of intermediate level Air 4 is a stunt to cash in on pre-orders.

There may be some Pro announcements, if only for the 12.9-inch, according to some of the on-off rumours.

Did not know that about external storage. :( Will try to hold out for sales on the 256gb model then.

I presume the photos and music app can only be synced via itunes like its always been, but if you have a usb drive with images, videos and music you will be able to access them with third party apps e.g use VLC for videos etc. Thats my main use case for usb storage, i got loads of movies and series that i would like yo watch on my air 4 once i get it.

Also i passed the apple store today (one of the London stores), and asked one of the Apple guys controlling the queues if they had Air 4’s on demonstration, he said NEXT WEEK 😁 so take that as you will šŸ˜‰.
