I'll wager they're holding off the official release of the iPad Air until right before, or right after, the announcement of the new iPhones. Official release will mean benchmarks all over the place, and they don't want the iPad Air to steal the iPhone's thunder (and the iPhone production controls the flow of lots of things, because they have to make them at the rate of hundreds of thousands a day - that's tough to work out any year - it's tougher this year with the pandemic). So it's not that they can't release the iPad Air now, it's that they don't want to - yet.it means October 1st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
and I get the pandemic but JEEEZ plenty of other companies have come out with plenty of novel products,,, apple..... not so much... I am a little disappointed

seems odd to me. Release and iPad because people will buy an iPhone? Who can afford both?
It‘s not that people will buy both (though some will), it’s that they sell a lot more iPhones than iPads, and hyping the performance of the iPad Air’s A14 early will make it “old news” when they release the iPhone 12 family. They don’t want their side product to steal the thunder from their flagship product, so they were fairly cagey about the performance of the A14 in the iPad Air, saying that it was great, but giving few specifics.seems odd to me. wow, too much detail for just an ipad... lolIt‘s not that people will buy both (though some will), it’s that they sell a lot more iPhones than iPads, and hyping the performance of the iPad Air’s A14 early will make it “old news” when they release the iPhone 12 family. Either they’re going to wait until after the iPhone announcement (between the announcement and the pre-order date) to release the iPad Air, in the wake of their announcement describing in glorious terms and great detail how fantastic the A14 is, or they’re going to release the iPad Air just ahead of the iPhone 12 announcement so Tim Cook or one of the others can walk in and grin and say “by now you may have seen the benchmarks on the A14, well, we’re here today to show you that it’s even better than you’ve heard” - I expect they’ve thought this through fairly carefully, given that a blip up or down in iPhone sales represents hundreds of millions of dollars to them, and they have a very carefully worked out plan for when to release the two devices, in relation to each other, for maximum effect. I know I’d be sweating those kinds of details if I were in their position.
