Ummmm....why did we just wait almost a year and a half and it’s running basically the same CPU again? Same thing happened with the entry level iPad.

I wouldn’t care all that much, as my iPad Air 2’s 2014 CPU is mostly plenty fast, except Apple dumps support for CPUs only 5-6 years after they’re first introduced.

And where is the upgraded appleTV? I need a streaming device, and have issues with the current gen one, plus it’s going on 3 years old...

It's not available until MAY. wow.
are you kidding me?
i just ordered without but i guess i will be without one for months.

Cool. Show me a $10 keyboard made out of premium materials that has a trackpad, enables my ipad to float and be totally adjustable, has a usb c pass through and is a great typing experience. Ill wait
You are assuming that you need all those features. You don't. People have been using classic ($10) keyboards for half a century now and you won't be able to type as fast on this magic keyboard as they can. And the trackpad? It's a poor replacement for a mouse (add another $10 bucks)

E-F-F this company and their $350 keyboards. Like a complete fool I bought their keyboard for the first iPad Pro in 2017. It quit working after about 14 months. Greediest Mofos in the business.

12 years running a software business building iOS products for clients -- but ive had about enough of this.

I'm the idiot that has a trashcan Mac Pro I use to dry my arse in lieu of toilet paper.

I’m not assuming i need all those features. I’m assuming I want all those features and am willing to pay for it. If i want all those features, I’m not gonna find it in a crappy $10 keyboard youre talking bout. Pure hyperbole. Is it that freaking hard for people to see apple release a product and just say “meh. cool but not for me” without whining about price and how expensive it is? As if it’s some big shock apple prices things higher. Yes. I could get a piece of crap keyboard for cheaper. You could probably get cheaper shoes or A cheaper car too and be just fine. But why did you buy what you bought? because you wanted it and saw how it would be useful in your life.

You forgot the old , “in my humble opinion”. Like the $999 monitor stand, if you need what it has to offer one is not finding those features in a crappy $10 keyboard. And trackpad, almost every Windows laptop comes with one. They must have missed the boat also.

So strange to get these iPad updates with zero or negligible processor upgrades. I’m glad this time though. Now is not a good time to spend money.

To be honest, I am confused with what Apple did here. I mean what is it that Apple trying to do here? Or is this simply a trojan horse to transition to ARM-based Macs? I don't really get it. It's like they want to re-imagine what a computer is, yet they are forcing the iPad to have the traditional computer setup. By doing this, it only exposes the limitation of iPad OS compared to a traditional PC OS like macOS or Windows. And if Apple started to regress iPad OS to be more like macOS, then what's the point of it in the first place?

It's called you can use it in different situations. If you're sitting at a desk typing on an on screen keyboard doesn't cut it for most people. Being able to fix it at a viewing angle, having a trackpad and real keyboard is awesome. At the same time if you want to do something really fast you can just open it up and use it like a tablet. The problem is most people look at something from their use perspective. There's nothing wrong with that except it doesn't apply to everyone. While it might not be useful for you it could be perfect for someone else.

i think you misunderstood me. I am not saying that there could exist a decent keyboard for iPad for $10. I am saying that Apple is trying hard to force a square peg into a round hole. They created a great tablet. iPad (and other tablets) is good for media consumption. Then Apple started positioning iPad as a productivity device. Hence the need for a keyboard and then for trackpad. The $10 keyboard I am referring to is a vanilla desktop keyboard which is great at what it was invented for - typing. I am saying that iPad will never be as good for productivity tasks as a desktop. That's because of the inherent limitation on the screen size. Even the biggest iPad has a screen size similar to the first IBM PC (yes, the resolution is higher but the size matters regardless). Ever since original IBM PC, humanity worked hard to increase the display size. There was a reason for that: to increase productivity one needs a bigger screen. Nowadays we have 40" displays (and then some will use a couple of those or four of smaller displays). The tablet screen can't realistically go much bigger than 12". An inch bigger and it's a killer tablet (as in it will kill your arm in no time).

Even a "simple" task of, say, writing an essay benefits tremendously from extra display real estate. One would normally have dozens of web browser tabs/windows open beside the text editor window (and then some other apps). Could that be done on iPad? Sure. If one wants to be unproductive it's a viable alternative. I just don't get why anyone would want to torture himself like that. There are use cases where mobile devices are the only option. In most of those cases, laptops are better for productivity. They are also simpler in design and as a result they are cheaper.

Well, you forgot the old , “in my humble opinion” too. There is a reason for that. In the context of a forum, unless specific links are provided, every statement is assumed to be a "humble opinion" by default.

Seems the only thing 2018 iPad Pro owners are giving up is 6GB of RAM, unless you have the 1TB model.

Yup. And camera. I’m going to skip this generation.

Well, replace the whole iPad with a cheap laptop then. What kind of comparison is that? Everything made by Apple can be replaced by a cheaper, lower quality option.

Also, trackpad is not a poor replacement for a mouse. I have the Magic Trackpad 2 and the MX Master 3, and there are some things a trackpad does better even on a Mac - and on an iPad, I think a trackpad is, actually, a better option.

I have used a number of external keyboards with my ipad prior to getting a Smart Keyboard with my 2018 iPad Pro and I find that what justified its price the most is really the whole integrated solution.

A separate wireless keyboard really limits how and where you can use your ipad. You need a separate stand or case to prop it up, and can really only use it on a desk. It’s also one more device you have to bring around with you and keep charged.

A case with integrated keyboard doesn’t really solve the issue either, because it tends to be quite cumbersome when I went to remove or attach the keyboard (ie: when I just want the tablet).

In contrast, the Smart Keyboard makes the whole experience seamless. It automatically connects when I attach it to my ipad (and disconnects when I remove it), which means I don’t have to deal with pairing or charging issues. It’s also extremely thin and light and just feels like an extension of the ipad.

That doesn’t make the Smart Keyboard perfect (other keyboards are cheaper, or offer a better typing experience), but I find it does offer the best integrated experience and doesn’t compromise the core of what makes an ipad uniquely an ipad.

Come on everybody, the keyboard (like all Apple devices) is magical. That automatically means it’s worth the price. Apple’s best magic trick is making your money disappear, all while you begin to look forward to next year’s ’magical‘ product. And repeat.

I am waiting for the Pencil 2 to trickle down into the lower end models and then getting one of those as a replacement for my iPad Pro 10.5 in a couple of years. Unless they make the 10.5 obsolete with an iOS update in the meantime, then I am getting a Surface (whichever suits me best by the time that happens).

A12Z Bionic? Is this slower than the A13 Bionic on the iPhone?
how does this makes sense that a smartphone has a faster chip than a "computer replacement" ?

This reeks of the 3rd gen iPad debacle. Fool me once Apple... 100% pass and keyboard pricing is ridiculous. I’ll stick to my 11” 2018 iPad Pro. 5g mini led with a a14x and better battery life would be a worthy upgrade.
Hardly. The iPad 3 was underpowered from day zero. Not a problem with this iPad.

Will a future iPad have a faster SoC? Sure. 5G? No doubt. Mini-LED backlighting? Rumored.

As always, buy it if you need it now. Otherwise, you’ll get faster, better hardware if you wait for the next model—whether that’s 6 months or 3 years in the future. And the price might be lower, but could go up, who knows?
