I do, everyday, to edit sound files for my job in radio, often while charging. And granted, I’m in the minority...but can the “majority” justify the removal of a perfectly functional accessory, for no other known reason than being minisuculy thinner, or driving EarPods sales? And how many people are actually using headphones with an iPad day to day?
Don't know if I'm a fan of removing the home button (Touch ID) from the iPad. Face ID works fine (great) on my iPhone X. But the way I use my iPad Pro 12.9". Lifting it up, looking at it, and swiping up to unlock it is not natural. I unlock it now with my thumb when picking it up to move it. I do this with out even have to look at it.
Assuming this is fairly accurate, I want to hear their justification for removing the headphone jack from an iPad. If Phil Schiller says "bravery" or "courage" I hope someone throws a rotten tomato at him.
Wait till you hear what they’ve done with the MacBook Pro!

They must have a new Smart Keyboard design where the back support travels further up the back of the iPad and connects to the Smart Connector there, on its side. No way Apple expects people to type in portrait mode only.
You're missing all the fun!
There's always the extreme method of filing off the camera bump when you don't the camera at all. The camera is certainly less important on an iPad than on an iPhone. The iPhone got its camera bump in 2014 with the iPhone 6, the iPad only got in 2017 (only on the iPad Pro).I'd rather have a lower quality camera than the bump, yes.
Likely to make space for reconfigured internals. They seem to want the Smart Connector directly above the Lightning port. They will likely introduce a new smart keyboard case, which will create a quasi-laptop form factor. It's the only realistic explanation. Apple will not restrict the smart keyboard to portrait mode. Why in the world would they create a design like that? What incentive would there be to put the smart connector on the bottom unless you intended it to be used that way?
Can't imagine there ever being a justifiable reason to have a protruding camera on the back of an iPad.
The rumor content was expected. After all, current iPhone sizes make iPhone as a “mini” iPad as they almost have all iPad capabilities and iPad has almost all iPhone capabilities except for calling. They are using the same operating systems: iOS.
Serial mobile leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer shared high-resolution renders today, courtesy of tech blog MySmartPrice, that are based on supposed leaked CAD images of Apple's upcoming redesigned iPad Pro.
Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said Apple is working on two new iPad Pro models that take design cues from the iPhone X, measuring in at 11 and 12.9-inches.

In addition to the thinner bezels, no Home button, and edge-to-edge display of the expected iPad Pro design, the mocked-up renders depict a device with an angular chassis boasting iPhone 4-style chamfered edges, rather than the rounded chassis of the current-generation tablet.
In another seeming nod to Apple's evolving iPhone handset design, the device is shown with separate antenna strips along the top and bottom edges of the chassis, instead of the single continuous antenna lines on either side of the existing cellular models.

Elsewhere, a closer look reveals a distinct lack of headphone jack, two rows of speaker vents on either side of the Lightning port - similar to the alleged CAD images leaked last month - and two microphone ports located above the TrueDepth camera embedded in the bezel.
Also like the CAD image before it, a Smart Connector is positioned on the back of the device directly above the Lightning port, instead of the landscape orientation on current iPad Pro models.

MySmartPrice claims the positioning is related to the limitations of Face ID in landscape orientation, however well-connected Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has said horizontal Face ID support is a feature in the upcoming iPad Pro models, which are expected to be announced this month.
The legitimacy of the additional details in the renders - and the alleged leaked CAD images they are supposedly based on - have yet to be confirmed, but Apple's scheduled media event on September 12 should reveal all.

Ha. I'd say the casing is a cross between iphones 5 and 7, with screen from the X.Reminds me a Surface Pro 4. Boy did Apple rip off their design or what......![]()
Likely because the amount of people using wired headphones with an iPad is a super small minority.
You're on a forum, where opinions are stated, I stated my opinion based on what I see in day to day life. What kind of reasoning is that? Do you have stats?
It is like saying that they took the home button away because it is used by a super small minority.
I don't have Bluetooth headphones. I have no interest in Bluetooth headphones.
But Apple is making sure I will have to buy some soon. Bah
How about: bigger camera module = better pictures
I love them on my 5s. Much secure grip than the too-slippery 6S and beyond.

Everyone is always whining about headphones jacks. Buy air pods, they’re the greatest thing apples made in many years by far. It’s been years since I used a headphone jack on an iPad anyways
