They made a big thing about the Smart Keyboard being “full sized”. They won’t shrink that.
Well, they made a big thing out of 3D Touch and...

maybe the apple pencil will charge via the smart connector (magnet?) and no longer need to be plugged into the lightning port. Thoughts?

Who else has lost the cap to their apple pencil?

I just put the cap near the magnet in the front, next to the Home button of the iPad Pro. It stays there, but I rarely charge the Pencil anyway, so it doesn’t bother me.

The straight edges look nice, but they're much more uncomfortable to hold.

I’ve found FaceID unreliable in only one orientation. I suspect adding rotation capabilities wouldn’t be that hard to do - but getting it to work reliably in one orientation should be a more important priority.

I think the iPad is more complex for FaceID because many of us use it on a stand or laid flat on the table, and the angle is not always appropiate for face recognition. Maybe that is the reason they forced it to be portrait.

Apple always treated the iPad as a portrait first device, even now with the multitasking in iOS 11. The marketing pictures are always portrait. I sure hope they change that and make a truly free-orientation device that you can take in any orientation and just use.

If this is what gets released, I'm done with iPads. I have a 9.7" Pro, and I'll keep that as long as it works. Even that iPad is hard to hold for long periods; it's just too thin, and if I want to set it down on a pillow in my lap, there's no way to keep it in position. By contrast, I also have a current Surface Pro that's easier to hold (MS added a rounded edge) and it has that great kickstand that adjusts to any angle.

I'm OK with Face ID (Surface Pro has it, and I use it), but for a device that's going to lay flat on a desk, it would be more awkward. (Kickstand, again; I never leave the Surface Pro in use and flat on a desk.) Loosing the headphone jack is a real negative; I have too many devices to have wireless paired to each. Laptop and two desktops are Windows. My digital piano doesn't have wireless support at all, so I'll be using wired headphones there for a long time to come.

Surface has other advantages. 3:2 aspect ratio, better keyboard cover, stylus has an "eraser", and runs Windows desktop software, including Office, Photoshop, and software development tools. It's also way better for watching videos. It's my portable workhorse machine, and there's really no place for an iPad in my life, except as an occasional backup for music or reading.

God I hope that camera doesn't stick out like that. That would suck when laid flat on a table as it would rock, potentially damage the camera bezel and/or bend the frame.

Jobs must be turning in his grave over those protruding cameras. So unsightly...

I don't dislike the adapter or its purpose but I've had way too many occasions where I did not have the adapter with me and I wanted to connect a jack (either for playing music in a non-bluetooth enabled car or on a hi-fi system in someone else house while visiting). To me it's still a dumb idea to have it removed...

Put it on your keychain. That’s easier than wait for Apple to change course.

A protruding camera is not really an issue since most people will use some kind of a protecting case with their iPads. The lack of a headphone jack is not a deal-breaker on its own either (though there really is no justifiable reason to exclude it), but unless Apple includes wireless headphones with the device for free all-year-round, I will have to buy them on my own, which increases the total price by at least 250 euros. I can also guarantee that no matter how good/bad the final device ends up being, the price will increase significantly here in Europe, like it did with MacBook Pro a couple of years ago and iPhone X last year -- my guess would be an extra 200 euros for the LTE models. On a positive note, the current 10.5" models will drop in price, which might better suit my needs if the new models are priced out of my price range. Either way, be it a 2017 or a 2018 model, I'm getting my first iPad.

I call BS for one reason. I refuse to believe they will eliminate the use for a smart keyboard in landscape. Unless they are completely redesigning the smart keyboard to be integrated with a back cover that connects through the back instead of the side. But this could easily be an early prototype.

This iPad Pro image that came yesterday is it again just a artist imagination or is it anywhere close to what we are gonna get ??

Hmm...I'm holding off all judgments until this actually is revealed with price/specs. I can see that camera being an annoyance but curious what the actual specs on the camera are.

I'll be more annoyed with a lack of 3.5mm headphone jack

Assuming this is fairly accurate, I want to hear their justification for removing the headphone jack from an iPad. If Phil Schiller says "bravery" or "courage" I hope someone throws a rotten tomato at him.
No the excuse used around here is that they didn't have the space to put it in phone 7. I guess the iPad doesn't have any space inside either for it...*sarcasm*

If there is no keyboard in landscape, then its a not go. I mean lets be honest that would not be a professional device. Not to mention if they removed the headset jack. Now for me personally I dont care since I have AirPods but they do use the IPP in different verticals like schools etc and that might be a big problem.

Looks awesome. I don't know what they mean by "angular chassis" though. The edges look straight to me. These days, I'd say I do 80-90% of my computing on my iPad. Only a small amount of time doing gaming on my PC and even less doing music and video editing on my Mac. I have my credit card all ready for the new 13".
