Want to have this style in:
7" OLED
4:3 form factor
3D Touch
120hz
True tone
without Notch
under Display finger print sensor
Pencil support
Dual Camera
1TB
IP68 waterproof
Phone App
otherwise running iPad versions of iOS Apps

... as an iPhone+/iPad mini replacement

Is there a 120have OLED out there? I thought that was a limitation of the technology. So far,I don't think we've seen higher than 90.

It’s just a render based on a rumour. (I keep telling myself.)
They made a big thing about the Smart Keyboard being “full sized”. They won’t shrink that.
If there is a Smart Connector on the back it must be to do with charging a new Pencil. But it would be right in the way of all sorts of cases.

But, what do I know?

You missed the point.

If Apple is being 'courageous' then they should embrace the open standard of USB-C on the iPad Pro, alongside Lightning. Best of both worlds and would USB-C as a standard for wired audio instead of the terrible solution that is lightning EarPods.

Except the USB C standard is highly fragmented. You can buy a lightning headphone and know it will work with your iPhone. Buy any set of USB C headphones and it might not work with your Android phone.

maybe the apple pencil will charge via the smart connector (magnet?) and no longer need to be plugged into the lightning port. Thoughts?

Who else has lost the cap to their apple pencil?

Can't imagine there ever being a justifiable reason to have a protruding camera on the back of an iPad.
And, yet, we have it now.

Srsly, though, this is a great render, but I agree that the camera bump needs to go.

What's the point of removing a headphone jack for such a big device?

Why have such a big camera bump? ipads are often laid flat

Assuming this is fairly accurate, I want to hear their justification for removing the headphone jack from an iPad. If Phil Schiller says "bravery" or "courage" I hope someone throws a rotten tomato at him.

I want to hear their justification for removing the floppy disk port / CD drive / et al..........can someone please get me my ExpressCard/34 slot back?

Portrait-only FaceID on an iPad should be a no-go.

I’ve found FaceID unreliable in only one orientation. I suspect adding rotation capabilities wouldn’t be that hard to do - but getting it to work reliably in one orientation should be a more important priority.

Have to remember this is someone's idea of what they think it could look like (emphasising with a huge emphasis, 'could'), so I don't even give these any care other than words to read.

Is it? That's an assumption.
Isn't that what most of this site is? Assumptions and opinions? Think about how many times you have seen people using an iPad. Now think about how many of those times you have seen headphones attached to them.

I have 4 iPads in normal use and they all have their headphone jacks used. Why? Because they are used in the car.
Oh right, a small minority of use cases! If they can kill it off on the iPhone (with extremely minimal blowback) then they can kill it off on the iPad without much of an issue at all.

Thank God. I can't take the current 2012 design anymore. A complete overhaul and ditching the iPhone 5 look with the chamfered edge is so needed. The design has been basically the same since the iPad Air in 2013.

I'd like to see the phones go back to flat sides too now that we are going into year 5 of the same curved sides on that...was really hoping they wouldn't recycle the iPhone 6 sides on the new X generation (looked great on 6-8 but kind of lazy to carry over to X), but they did so it'll be a long while longer with those I guess.

Never change a running system. Unless, of course, you only care for design. Or are worried that you can't show off having the latest and newest gimmick because it looks the same as old models.

Wrong. You’re definitely living in a bubble (along with the Apple folks). To be fair, it’s a pretty big bubble, BUT “small minority” my ass. It’s not and they’re substantial chunk of Apple’s most important/influencial users
Yeah, I'm living in the bubble that saw Apple kill off the headphone jack on the iPhone and also keeps seeing record iPhone sales.

People just do not care about the headphone jack in the grand scheme of things. The world is going wireless. Don't like it? Use the adapter that comes packaged with every iPhone. Think about the amount of times you have seen someone using an iPad, now think about how many times you have seen a pair of headphones directly connected to them.

Yea, figured it was only a matter of a few posts before someone would say don't change the super old design and then angle it in a condescending way like the design is all I care about. Typical garbage.

The current iPad design was old and tiresome three years ago, good riddance. If it were up to you we'd all still have the iPhone 3G design on our phones. God forbid a trillion dollar company who is a world class design leader who got to where they are largely because of design put actual EFFORT into designing something again after five(!) years of the same thing. Apple's been phoning it in across their entire portfolio for way too long as far as design is concerned.

God forbid some people actually LIKE the current design. Just as some people actually LIKE the brick design of the iPhone 5S and desperately want it back. Go figure.

Apple's focus on design over function has been a legitimate concern for years... now why would they do that? Because of people like you, who want something new and different just for the sake of it being/looking new and different.

Why force change that is not necessary? Being "old" and "tiresome" is a pretty lame reason to change anything, really.

What is your problem with my original post, to the point you felt justified being a condescending a$$? All I said was I was tired of the 5 year old design and was happy to see it go, why this offended you so personally that you had to be outright rude to me I have no idea but I'm just responding in kind now. Get lost.

Go buy a Samsung product if you're waxing poetic so hard for products from five years ago, Apple is going to move forward with or without you, however slow.

Dude, you're getting way too triggered way too easily. What exactly is YOUR problem? I wasn't being condescending...but if the shoe fits? You choose to put it on, I didn't force it on you. I just pointed out that too many people care about the design only and want updates just for the sake of looking "new" and "different".

Looking good...I’ll be buying two of the 12” for sure.

Two iPhone Xs Plus, two Apple Watch 4’s....going to be an expensive September haha!!

Yes, you were condescending. Completely disrespectful, rude, and uncalled for:

Sure comes across condescending and rude to me. Yep, only caring about the design and showing off the latest gimmick to nobody but my wife since my iPad never leaves the house is what I'm all about. You know me so well.

Geeeeez.....As I said....if the shoe fits.

But I'm genuinely interested in why you >need< a design overhaul. Are there any other reasons than it being "old" and "tiresome"? At the end of the day, it's highly subjective (I for one never liked the brick design of the iPhone 4-5S that's being continued in the SE and these iPad mockups). The iMac essentially has had the same design since 2007. As I said, there's absolutely no need to force a design change for the sake of change, if it actually WORKS. This will ultimately only lead to compromises. Has happened way too often before with Apple.

These look awesome, but it's a dealbreaker for me if they have OLED screens. My brain can't handle the PWM flickering while scrolling in low light, and of course I use my iPad most reading in bed before going to sleep.

Can't I just WANT a new design without having to justify it? I'm just tired of it, that can't be that hard to understand? I've bought three iPads and it literally felt like I was buying the same thing over and over even though they were all different internally, and it wasn't exciting at all.
